The Wildhearts - Earth Vs The Wildhearts
\m/ |
Broken Social Scene (i've been digging them like crazy since I saw them live last Friday)
Efterklang Secret Machines Kashmir TV on the Radio looks like i'm set for the weekend |
Right, what/who do TV on the Radio sound like? I see them mentioned everywhere.
I'm crazy digging Cop Shoot Cop right now. Very cool band. |
^hell yeah. Ask Questions Later is cool stuff.
|
Django Reinhardt - Peche à la Mouche
|
^hell yeah. Ask Questions Later is cool stuff.
They're so chaotic. It's great. Speaking of chaotic - yo Daniel, can I snag that first Cows album from you on soulseek? It's working again for me, so I'm online just now. |
Mulholland Drive soundtrack.
I adore Angelo Badalamenti's work a ton, especially his stuff for Twin Peaks. |

Go ahead. |
Thanks man.
I adore Angelo Badalamenti's work a ton, especially his stuff for Twin Peaks.
yeah Badalamenti has written some great soundtracks for Lynch(Twin Peaks is also a favorite of mine), but i don't think he worked on the Mulholland Drive soundtrack, did he? edit- just checked myself and he did do most of it. learn something new everyday. |
Listening to Mink Deville's first album right now. Been passively looking for this for a little bit, stumbled across a copy this afternoon. I heard the song "Spanish Stroll" a while ago, really liked it, only could ever find compilations. Don't like buying compilations. It's cool. Classic soul sound with a hint of Punk aggression.
Also listened to John Cale's Fear earlier today. I've only had it for a short while, but it's already become my favorite Cale solo album. Might write a review for it or something. |
Esoteric - Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum
|
Led Zeppelin - Everything
First time listening to Zep in about a year and a half. Still kicks as much butt as it did when I was a classic rock nerd. |
Stuff those pants boyeeee
|
This is kinda the opposite of what I've been digging lately, but I just want to get it out there and say that Tapes 'n Tapes fucking suck.
|
Not really?

Yeah, I was the same way too.
|
Pere Ubu-The Modern Dance
I've listened to this album casually before, but now I love it to death. |
It's sad that Zeppelin is such a 14-year-old band these days, because when you listen to them from a wiser perspective, they've got a lot going on that you juts don't pick up on when you're first getting into music.
|
Read the 33 1/3 book of The Velvet Underground & Nico on my plane ride today. And to accompany it was this:
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and, uh, Broadcast - The Future Crayon |
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
For some reason I always think of pirates when I listen to Tom Waits. I bought Grace yesterday after avoiding it for a long time. He has the voice of jesus. |
XTC - Drums and Wires
This is better than I expected it to be. In particular I enjoyed "Complicated Game". I'd heard only Skylarking prior. I'll have to check out Black Sea sometime. |

I pick up on something different everytime I listen to them, depending on what period.
Their early stuff can get kind of boring outside the wanting to just rock spectrum. |
You know, I'm 15, and I find that insulting.
As a musician, nowadays I find so much more in music then I did before. |
/\ loooool
|
I thought I knew my shit at 15, too. Being almost 19 now, however, I can tell you there's a lot that still develops. It's subtle. You can only really be detected when you listen to music you liked back when you were younger, and realize you appreciate it on a completely different level.
Kids on music forums like to complain that people are ageist, or that older folks don't realize that the younger guys know just as much. However, being from that camp (I've always been the "I can't believer you're only [x] years old" kid), I can tell you there's still a lot ahead of you that only age and experience can give you. |
Yeah, sometimes I feel out of place being 21 (turned Aug. 7, actually) around here. 19 to 21 isn't that large of a gap, but it is quite different in terms of social context, which makes it occasionally strange.
|
I don't mind the fact that I've still got a lot of experience - I welcome that - I just don't like it when something is referred to as a teeny-bopper band or some such, because not all teens just like a song for the aesthetics.
But I'm glad I've started enjoying, playing, and talking about music earlier rather than later. |

Try being 23, grandpa. Hmmm, let's see. Girl Talk - Night Ripper Magazine - Real Life (just got this, it's fooking fantastic) The Avalanches - Since I Left You Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters Paul Simon - Graceland Come to think of it, I just got (dled) all of those, love it. |
Try being 23, grandpa.
Haha, thank god you're here :D |
i can't get enough of Nilsson Sings Newman. Harry sings all of these songs better than Newman could ever hope.
oh and i tried listening to the new Umbrellas but it sucks. |
Regina Spektor - Begin To Hope
Television - Adventure |
Yeah. Like, I think I have good taste. But I am totally not as diverse musically as I hope to be in the future (i have no clue about good world music)
|
Hey, you guys are ahead of where I was at 15, back then I listened to Linkin Park, Metallica, and Nu-Metal, I knew of no underground bands.
|
I don't know that it's necessarily about diversifying. Really, what has expanded my comprehension most is just hearing lots of music, regardless of its "difference" from my typical favorites, and getting an understanding of what's going on through playing and writing my own music at the same time. I've come to recognize patterns that I never used to, and I just am more able to not just hear the music, but really listen to every aspect both independantly and as a whole. Musical awareness doesn't necessarily come from hearing every South American musical form or every Bach minuet. It comes from a sustained interest and active approach to music over time.
|
Yeah, Zappa but if you stick to the realm of punk your entire life you are only going to know that and not be as well rounded musically as you could.
Maybe I'm just a fan of music that incorporates a diverse arrange of music though. |
The Sound - Jeopardy
I always thought this album had an amazing cover - http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000062R77.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V50847447_.jpg |
i have no clue about good world music
We should talk.
I'm digging Groundation, a contemporary American reggae band that has defied all my preconceptions and biases about reggae from outside Jamaica. I was an austere purist for a long time, but I recently allowed in a few British exceptions and that busted the whole thing open. |
