I posted my cover of April Ethereal (on guitar) in the jam session part of the site. Here's the link if you wanna hear it. http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2IBACNUQ0DE1I0O7RVLQTPHNG6
Very good job dude! |
Really? I think Beneath The Mire is my favorite track on Ghost Reveries. It's such an eerie song.
Also probably my least favorite, it or Hours of Wealth. It just seems kind of boring riffwise, and the lyrics and the way the vocals are delivered are just terrible. It does come back at the end with a sweet solo though. |
My favorite Opeth solo is displayed on Epilogue. I can almost play it perfect. I absolutely love the twin leads at the end. It's such a beautiful song, I can't get enough of that solo.
What's your favorite Opeth solo? |

Thanks alot. |

What's your favorite Opeth solo?
I'd have to say either the Blackwater Park solo or the first Deliverance solo, the one Peter plays
:upset: Atonement's my favorite Opeth track on that album, and in my top 5 Opeth tracks. I'm actually hoping they take an Atonement route on their next album. It's the next logical progression. I thought Beneath the Mire was their worst on GR.
I'm gonna have to agree with everything there |
I never really notice solos in Opeth songs.
I just sort of listen to the whole song. Guess I'll have to mass listen to Opeth then and decide... |

I'm the same about not really noticing solos. They just seem to flow so well with the songs that you barely really notice them.
|
It's because in most metal songs, you get a kind of build up to the solo and then it's usually a blistering shred fest where you can hear pretty much nothing all except for the guitar(s).
Opeth have a much more mature way of making/slotting solos into a song. |
^I know what you mean. Instead of having a solo for the sake of having a solo, Opeth's solos just really flow well with the song and are very melodic.

Yeah that's a fair point, maybe that's why I like the ones I do, cos I haven't noticed the others enough for them to stand out in my head.. But I mean Deliverance, that one just blows your head off |
The one in Moonlapse Vertigo is weird.
I was kinda thinking what the hell he was doing. 6 more pages to go...:D |

I was kinda thinking what the hell he was doing. 6 more pages to go...:D
I notice the rhythm guitar more in that part and I really like Moonlapse Vertigo as a whole. It's such an under appreciated song. Only 160 posts to go :p |
Favorite Opeth solo.. Both the Windowpane solos.. Been listening to that song alot lately, and I realised that Windowpane is all about the solos.. The rest is just.. Sort of "filler".. I mean, the vocals are sort of boring in that song... And it wouldn't be as amazing a song as it is, if it wasn't for the beautiful expressive solos
|
I have another account, so im trying to make to 666 twice:D
I like that song alot, the flow is actually pretty good in that one. EDIT: the vocals are good IMO. The solos kick *** too. I fell in love with the 2nd solo when I heard it for the first time. |
I can't remember how solos go to save my life. Damnation is probably the most played album on my computer and I can't remember how any of the solos go. :(
|
Do you play guitar? Usually that contributes to why people remember solos. Or just sheer wankery:p
|
Yes I do play guitar. :( Opeth solos are probably the only solos I can't remember
|

I thought Beneath the Mire was their worst on GR.

Really? I think Beneath The Mire is my favorite track on Ghost Reveries. It's such an eerie song.
This is my point, GR is a great album, different people see and get different things out of. It's just that Opeth has changed their sound slightly and some people won't keep up or don't enjoy the direction rather than it actually being any worse. As for Opeth solo's... I love so many of them, off the top of my head: The Leper Affinity Windowpane When Epilogue All the solo's on Still Life etc. Most solo's are great stuff, very mature and well used in the songs. |

My favorite Opeth solos:
The Leper Affinity Godheads Lament |
I'm partial to White Cluster myself. I also rather like the ones on BRI.
|
Yeah, all of the solos on BRI are great.
I've always liked the one in Harvest. |
The second solo on BRI is really sweet. Its a sudden mood change from the riffs before. Great stuff.
|
I like the Windowpane solos and Ending Credits as a whole.
|
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the A Fair Judgement solo yet...
That solo is two and a half minutes or orgasm for me... The Serenity Painted Death solo gets second place... |
The best bit of Serenity Painted Death is the amazing pinch harmonic riff at 2:20 onwards and then the awesome growling that follows.
:) |
^I've said it before and I'll say it again. That is my favourite Opeth riff ever.
|
Mine too. Incredibly good.
|
Serenity Painted Death FTW!
