The bass is black w/ black pickguard and a maple fretboard. I was thinking about changing the pickguard to another color. Any suggestions?

Spaceman Spiff 05-02-2009 11:28 AM

So, by playing that show last night, someone in the crowd (I assume they were with one of the other bands) offered us a show in July at the same place.
I know. I couldn't believe it when he dropped the price to $500, let alone throwing in the case and strap and only asking me for $400 when I got there.

I think I'm going to have my Uncle's MIM Jazz set up and then sell it.

I actually didn't try the Kratom. I just ended up going to bed because I was so dog tired. I measured out 7 grams of it and set it aside - that should be enough for some Kratom tea.

I did put a little in my mouth for taste. Reminded me of old grass clippings, but with 100x the potency. I'm not too excited to make tea out of it. Lol.

I've always wanted to figure out how to record music in 5.1 surround sound. I'm sure there's a way to designate a front/rear pan as well as left/right.

I'll check yout your music in a minute. I'm still waking up. *yawn*
You certainly go one awesome deal man.

Just as well you didn't try the Kratom, if you took a relatively small dose it would have kept you up for a good while. Thai workers traditionally chewed on it to get energy and pain relief. In higher doses it acts more like an opiate, triggering off the same receptors and can cause drowsiness. It is a little weird like that, there is some critical point when it starts having more of a sedative effect than stimulating.

There are a few programs around which allow you to create virtual surround. I am sure one of them is Q Sound, which I believe my dad used for that one effect on "No Question" in the intro. It doesn't really work well with headphones though.

I have some other tracks uploaded, if you like what you hear so far I can give you links for another couple.

Any plans for today? I'm gonna head off and grab some Chinese soon. I have a pretty good takeaway less than two minutes from my house. :)

Edit: A silver/mirror or white one would probably be alright.

It was a pretty small crowd of about 20 people, but they all seemed to really enjoy our set. I had a lot of fun last night.

I know we had some problems with our levels, so if the videos came out well some will definitely be up on YouTube soon.

They didn't mic anything and the drums were really over-powering. We didn't have time for a sound check, either. Oh well, as I said, we still got another show because, apparently, we played well and impressed someone.

Often times it can feel crap on stage but you'll get positive feedback regarding how it sounded in the room. I had a gig like that tonight, the sound was abysmal on stage but then the consensus in the room was that it had sounded great so that's what counts really.

Epidemechanical 05-02-2009 12:11 PM

everything sounds bad live

gaslight 05-02-2009 12:14 PM

A grim assessment if ever there was one.

You should invest in a wireless. Run out into the crowd and listen to the sound so that you can get a feel for the levels.

It's a trick I picked up with my first band.
Woah! Were you wearing a balaclava and a black and white stripy jumper when you got that?

Hope you got to sleep okay man, the kratom can have a bit of a stimulating effect at lower doses. Maybe I should have warned you... lol

Got some links to some music my dad made with one of his mates and his cousin:

http://www.mediafire.com/?mun4dzmjqjz

http://www.mediafire.com/?yyzhzdnlztg

The first track is a kinda acid jazz sorta thing, some electronic effects with drums from an electric kit, damn cool track. My dad plays piano, keys and programmed the effects, his cousin on guitar and his mate on electronic drums. It has an awesome effect in the intro using Q sound I think it's called. If you play it on speakers you will hear the line "get serious" as if it came over your left shoulder.

The second track is a melodic latinish jazz piece my dad wrote with him on piano and keyboard bass, his mate on electronic drums and his cousin on guitar. Pretty nice track.

I wish my dad had tried to form a band doing this stuff.
I have to look through ~2000 envelopes and I potentially have to open them all up and re-stuff them. :upset:

Im learning christmas carols on my guitar...no idea why but its fun:)

Sablate McNuff 05-02-2009 04:58 PM

I inserted them into the wrong envelopes yesterday.

I work in a print & mail factory and we send everything out at a discounted rate (almost 10 cents below standard first class mail) because it is presorted, so it saves the post office a lot of time. I inserted the statements into the regular first class mail envelopes.

Essentially, our presort house processing fees plus the increased rate in postage would cost us almost another $1000 if we tried to let it go as-is.

Luckily it was mostly in order, so I only have to re-stuff about 150 of them and I can re-print the rest. I'll deal with them tomorrow.

I put the kratom powder in a coffee filter and I have some kratom tea being made right now. I'm thinking I should put it on the stove later to evaporate it and condense it as it's currently at 6 cups, and I really don't want to drink that much, especially after already having one cup.

Time to check out your dad's music...

Ah I see, good thing it didn't take too long to sort.

You should also consume the Kratom itself to get the rest of the active ingredients you can't get from brewing it.

Lemme know how you get on with the tea, I only ever tried it once with an extract and I think I did it wrong.

pukeboy66 05-02-2009 06:08 PM

That's really just not true as a general statement.

Live music can sound terrible, recorded music can sound terrible. Both can sound great.

I ate some kratom, but mostly just drank the tea. I highly recommend boiling it again afterwards to evaporate it. 6 cups kind of made my stomach hurt a little bit. Next time I try it, I'll put all the kratom in with some applesauce and try to evaporate it such that it's only a cup or so of tea.

The music is incredible. Definitely not what I expected at all. I really liked it. Reminded me of Soul Coughing at first, but then just went into a very nice, up-tempo jazz bit.

The second piece was rather nice too, but I think the bass was too present in the mix. Sounded rather boomy and harsh than warm and punchy and it took away from some of the other subtleties. Otherwise, it was very mellow. What inspired the song title for Habitacion con Puerta? Just the general vibe of coastal living?

gaslight 05-02-2009 10:10 PM

What's this kratom business?
