Riva 04-13-2006 05:31 PM

I just like any Floyd song with an acoustic intro. :p

BigTrav415 04-14-2006 05:58 PM

Awesome Floyd guitar intros:

WYWH (it literally has brought tears to my eyes at times)
SOYCD (probably my favorite thing to play on guitar right now and for a while, that incredibly emotional bluesy solo, then the Syd theme, and the heavy part... man)
Is There Anybody Out There? (not really an intro I guess but you get the picture)
Brain Damage (*sigh* first song I learned on la guitarra :) )
Dogs (the fade-in non-traditional drop-tuned chords with the keyboard is :thumb: in my book)
Stairway To Heaven (umm duh gilmour's acoustic is da bomb)
Let There Be More Light (/me grooves)
Echoes (same reason as SOYCD but more spacey)
Fearless (/me uplifted spirit)
Wot's... Uh The Deal (" ")
Childhood's End (Dogs-esque fade-in)
In The Flesh? (scare-the-sh[font=
"Verdana"]it-out-of-you-the-first-time-you-hear-itingness FTW)
Run Like Hell (erm duh)
Free Four (happy chords++)

Yeah, that's about right. And Riva, if I had a big avatar I'd totally pwn your Python avatar with a better one. Watch your back o_O

One Of These Days is a monster of a song.

BigTrav415 04-14-2006 09:17 PM
One Of These Days is a monster of a song.
Heeeeeeeeeeeell yeah

I'd bring up the thing about if you listen in one headphone/speaker it sounds like Mason is saying "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" and in the other it sounds like "One of these days I'm going to dance with the evil beast", but then some regs might get vehemently sarcastic.

o shi

Riva 04-15-2006 01:10 AM

I thought it was One of these days I'm going to rip you into pieces when I first heard it.
Goodbye Blue Sky is brilliant also.
I've been working on learning that song on the ol' guitar.. It's fun as hell to play.

Ephemeral 04-15-2006 12:56 PM
I thought it was One of these days I'm going to rip you into pieces when I first heard it.
I always heard One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-15-2006 03:32 PM

I thought it was:

"One Of These Days, I'm Gonna Lose My Rag"
WYWH (it literally has brought tears to my eyes at times)
The Live version leaves me absolutly speechless.

Whale and Wasp 04-15-2006 03:34 PM

i thought it was supposed to be some backwarsd message

Mr. Night V2.0 04-15-2006 03:43 PM

I don't think it is, there's definatly some decipheral words in there.

Whale and Wasp 04-15-2006 04:03 PM
I don't think it is, there's definatly some decipheral words in there.
argh sorry i mis-said it....i mean i thought it was a backwards message at first time i heard it

Mr. Night V2.0 04-15-2006 04:33 PM

Oh. Alright then.

Ephemeral 04-15-2006 05:24 PM

Yeah, come to think of it, it does kind of sounds backwards.

I think they might have put backwards echo on it, and then slowed the tape down.

standard 04-15-2006 05:33 PM

I read somewhere how they made it.. Mason spoke really fast when they recorded it, then they slowed it down and got that sound.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-15-2006 05:50 PM

It does sound slowed.

BigTrav415 04-15-2006 07:13 PM

Man, wouldn't it be cool to have access to the original master tapes of PinK Floyd's albums... with all the original, seperated tracks before effects and all that jazz. So cool... like I have the drums track for Fool In The Rain by Led Zeppelin, as in the actual track recorded and then put together with the rest of the song. It's real too, you can hear the guitar and piano very faintly in the background, and Bonham has some great banter at the beginning. Unfortunately it cuts out right before the drum part of the "whistle breakdown", but I think that's because they recorded that part on a seperate track with bongos and whatnot.

Riva 04-15-2006 07:16 PM

I like it because Nick does a sort of growl before the harsh vocals really became prevalent. I still maintain that Mike Oldfield performed the worlds first harsh vocals.

MidnightRider 04-15-2006 10:05 PM

Any chance you could upload that, Trav?

Is this for real? Has it been released? It says the release date is Sept 06, but why are people reviewing it? Oh well, it has a release date!!! :D

Danger Bird 04-16-2006 12:29 AM

What exactly is Pulse?

MBS 04-16-2006 12:32 AM
What exactly is Pulse?
It's a live Pink Floyd CD; Waterless - however. It's still very good quality and an excellent album.

Riva 04-16-2006 02:55 AM

It's a standing joke that it will never be released. It's like DNF, really.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-16-2006 05:25 AM

It's gonna be like Chinease Democracy all over again. I'm not too fussed over it, Mainly cos Waters isn't there, and you can probably find video'd bootlegs on the internet or something.

Np - Pink Floyd - Dogs.
:smoke:

Riva 04-16-2006 06:08 AM

I'd like to get it, just so I can own and watch it... :p

MidnightRider 04-16-2006 08:29 AM

Yeah, I remember when I was excited about getting it back at Christmas.

I don't think it'll turn into Chinese Democracy, hopefully they'll get it out sometime in the next year.

Dragon_Prince 04-16-2006 08:36 AM

it's coming out soon ... 8-)

patfunk 04-16-2006 10:57 AM

Hi all, first post and all here. Im really getting into Saucerfull of Secrets, the guys manage to create an amazing atmosphere throughout the entire album. Oh and does anybody know if its a fretless bass Roger uses in the introduction of 'Let There Be More Light'? ive tried re-creating it on my own fretless but to no avail

Indeed it is. I think that's a neat little thing about Pink Floyd. Their cover art is amazing. Every album is just has fantastic art.

Except The Wall. It pisses me off more than you can imagine that they wasted that great opportunity to make an instantly reconginizable yet awesome cover, and they skimped out and did about the easiest thing possible *tsk tsk*

Man, I've been digging some obscure Floyd lately. Let There Be More Light, Summer '68, If, et al. I love feeling like a real music snob sometimes :D

Oh, and Riva, what is DNF? I'm slow as hell on stuff like this...

np: Boston - More Than A Feeling (I can't stop clapping along to the rawk :( )

EDIT: patfunk, I always thought it was an electric guitar with tone turned way down and some sort of effect  Unless you mean the actual bassline, I'm talking about the funkadelic thing.

"If" and "Summer '68" are great songs from 'Atom Heart Mother.' Everytime I hear the intro to "Summer '68" it reminds of Charlie Brown. Doesn't sound like the theme song?

i think i've read the reason for this.....as you know roger was taking over the band at that time and didnt let storm thorgerson (very creative guy who did their earlier covers except PATGOD) design the cover (for the wall and the final cut).

i think the wall one is ok though....its pretty recognizable.....not exactly deep or anything but i like just the sad simplicity of a wall there.

Riva 04-16-2006 10:43 PM

I like the Wall DVD. It's very eye-catching.

I'm on springbreak, and at night when I get really tired I get in this almost stoned state.. and I've watched it every night so far. :p

Riva 04-16-2006 11:47 PM

My most fanboy effort was watching it three times in one day, whilst having the album playing in my car.

I know what you mean. Although I've never been stoned, I get tired and feel like I'm in this euphoric state. Then, I laugh at things that aren't remotly funny. :(
I like the Wall DVD. It's very eye-catching.
I like it too. I didn't know they included songs from 'The Final Cut' in it.

I'm learning 'Shine On.....pts 1-5', it's a tricky song.

Riva 04-17-2006 05:06 PM

Yeah, and my version of The Final Cut doesn't have When The Tigers Broke Free on it. :(

Riva 04-17-2006 07:13 PM

I just realised how misogynic The Wall actually is. Listening to The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, I realised that Roger is actually blaming the wives of the schoolteacher's themselves, and absolving the schoolteachers.
