Theyre something without Tomas. Just not the something they were with him.
I like alot of their post KN stuff. |
Without Tomas, they're a generic sounding ska band. With Tomas, they were amazing.
|
Alone in the Crowd was good. Washed Up and Through the Ringer was good. Dinosaur sounds was mediocre at best, bad at average and terrible at worst.
Thomas has never been a good singer, but he's always fit the sound. AitC's singer was a good singer and a good lyricist, and he made up for what Thomas took away. But the people who replaced him were both bad singers and bad lyricists. To say Dinosaur Sounds is a good album is to only look at it on the merits of its best songs and it's horn lines. |
One of the best singers in current ska bands = the singer from The Toasters
|
I'm kind of disappointed at this album.

Which singer. Bucket is a terrible singer. He has no tone. He has great lyrics but as a singer he's really bad. He's bad to the extent that if he doesn't have the other singer (a black guy who can really sing) singing with him the whole show kinda sucks. Technically Bucket can sing in tune, but he falls far behind: Chris Murray The guy from the Slackers The guy from the Mad Caddies The guy from the Smooths The girls from the Dance Hall Crashers The guy from Animal Chin The guy from Area 7 The guy from Fishbone The guy from Flavio y la Mandinga Mark Foggo The guy from the New York Ska Jazz Ensemble The guy from Go Jimmy Go The guy from One Cool Guy The guy from Jump with Joey Gwen Stefani The guy from Reel Big Fish or the Forces of Evil The guy from Pain The guy from the Littest Man Band The guy from Satori The guy from the Rx Bandits The guy from Ska-P The guy from the Suburban Legends The guy from the Pietasters The guy from Solabeat Alliance The guys from Sonic Boom Six The guy from the Slackers The guy from Skaos The best singers are from The Slackers The Suburban Legends The Forces of Evil (but oddly not Reel Big Fish) The Rx Bandits and The Littlest Man Band |

The guy from the Dance Hall Crashers
girl* |
I don't think he's a terrible singer. But I agree that he has cool lyrics. And I agree that a lot of the people you listed are good singers. I think I said that because I was listening to The Toasters at the time and enjoying it a lot.
|
It's funny that I see the singer and guitarist for the Mad Caddies around town so often. I saw them at a sushi restaurant I was at a few months back.
|
Have you ever talked to them?
|
yeah, a couple times. Sascha, the guitarist and my dad are friends through music and stuff.
I'm kind of disappointed at this album.
everybody is for the most part, im glad it happened, but i was expecting more. |
Vic Ruggiero from The Slackers is an awesome singer.
So is the guy from Westbound Train. |

girls:) And you could have just edited my post;) And I may have been pretty drunk when I posted that. |
brad from sublime was a good singer.
girls:)
And you could have just edited my post;) And I may have been pretty drunk when I posted that.
I wasn't going to take it that far. You obviously just copied and pasted "The guy from" I just wanted to rub some dirt on your nose. |
Hmm, the site it was one doesn't work but I want to hear it.
|
Its nothing special, just wait for it to come out and then download it

Or just listen to the orriginal Keasby Nights. |
So, if it's not different at all, Doesn't it seem like he did it just out of pure spite? Isn't that...kinda... unprofessional of them?
|
Hmmm it would seem that way I spose, at the end of the album he says things like "This is going to piss people off and, at the end of the day, that's all that really matters" and "I don't care if a single record is sold" and "We'll keep doing what we're doing even if a single record isn't sold" and so on.
|

Listen to the end of the album, he explains. He just says that they were going to do a re-release of the original, and he didn't want it to be a crappy re-release where the sound is untouched and only the cover is changed. So they did a pre-emptive strike and re-recorded it themselves. Listening to the two back-to-back, the sound is a LOT crisper on this album. |
I listened to the original right after SM's, I am so dissapointed by the new one.

Yeah. The rhythm section sounds a lot better, but the horn arrangements/levels left something to be desired on some songs, I feel. I can't wait for new material. |
Same here, I hope SM puts out some awesome new material. I wonder how long that'll be.
|
They're supposed to be writing/recording a new album as we speak, but we may have another Chinese Democracy on our hands.
|
Chinese Democracy???
I want more BOTAR too. |
I am actually quite pleased with this CD. Its all old music, but Im not sure if Im the only one, but Catch 22's keasbey nights had horrible quaility. On this album the drums are a million times better. The basslines are really solid, they sometimes get a little to complicated once and a while. On Catch 22's keabey nights there bassist would play out of tune a lot (he used a fretless so going out tune depends on how your intonation is). The horn sections are much stronger, especially on "this one goes out to", the solos are much more professional. The flute on riding the fourth waves sounds much better. The guitar is more trebly and bassy, and just crisper. Day in Day out has new lyrics which is a good thing. The only thing I didnt really like was the vocals on Keasbey Nights (the song) Tomas tended to be more layed back with his tone, and not as raspy. But overall this album should be a must have for a ska fan. But then again these songs are all old, so many will probably stick to the original, but I think this album overshadows it in musicianship, quality, and professioncy. Its a great album.
|
Yeah, it seemed to me that the vocals were just really sketchy alot of the time, and the horns sounded very empty. Just kinda, hollow.
|
am the only ones who has the songs riding the fourth waves, and this one goes out to cut out on them. If someone has the versions of these 2 songs that work right could u please send them to me. thanks.
|
what happened to the sweet bassline in on and on and on around 2:10?
|
what happened to the sweet bassline in on and on and on around 2:10?
its still there just it got overdubbed, one part played the roots, and the other part harmonized it in 3rds. |
am the only ones who has the songs riding the fourth waves, and this one goes out to cut out on them. If someone has the versions of these 2 songs that work right could u please send them to me. thanks.
wait what? something about Riding the Fourth Wave and This One Goes Out To...but what about them? "am the only ones who has the songs" doesn't even make sense. Please, retype whatever you attempted to say, sensibly. |
It makes sense...
He's asking if anyone has versions of those 2 songs that don't cut off. |
Chinese Democracy???
I want more BOTAR too.
China's supposedly moving toward democracy and having it really soon, but they're still a dictatorship. SM is supposedly working on a new cd and releasing it within this lifetime, but they're taking hella long |

Chinese Democracy has nothing to do with China, it's the new Guns and Roses album. Notice how orginial poster used italics |
Where are these supposed new lyrics on Day In, Day Out? Am I missing something here?
|

Hahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahah |
That was stupid.
|
Where are these supposed new lyrics on Day In, Day Out? Am I missing something here?
In the original version the 2nd version has the same lyrics as the first, In the new version streetlight wrote new lyrics for the 2nd verse, its pretty noticeable. |
