top 5 favs:
1 Metallica - hit the lights (**** you)
2 Slayer - Evil has no boundaries
3 Coroner - nosferatu (the tapping bit)
4 Coroner - Suicide command (the entire lead in the whole song)
5 Slayer - angel of death

ive probably forgot about 20 like i usually do, but meh.

NP: testament: the haunting

AParanoidIronMan 04-13-2004 11:34 PM

best thrash solo hmmmmmm........ well thats as hard to answer as the best thrash riff.........
but my fav 5 are

metallica - the solos in fade to black
testament- the solos in return to serenity
anthrax - death rider
exodus - toxic waltz
megadeth - tornado of souls

manuscriptreplica 04-14-2004 12:03 AM

you have your thing as WTH yet you dont have a venom song as your fav solo??!?!?

AParanoidIronMan 04-14-2004 02:55 AM

its just that those 5 were the 1st ones that came to mind.........
and i was trying to remain unbiased....

LordDargon 04-14-2004 05:47 AM

This list is gonna blow major balls, but I suck at thinking of 'favorite' anything:

Slayer - Raining Blood
Metallica - One/Fade to Black
Exodus - Strike of the Beast (that little mini-solo is super awesome)
Dark Angel - Burning of Sodom (a mass of noise)
Megadeth - 5 Magics (bunches of great ones)

deftoned 04-14-2004 06:00 AM

Metallica - Sanitarium (3rd solo)
Slayer - Angel of Death (hahaha 50 seconds of primal carnage!!)
Metallica - Hit the Lights (that run up the neck is so fast, right till the end!) \m/
Testament - The New Order (around the 2:45 mark)
Slayer - Raining Blood (hahah the divebombing!)
Meh favourite lists always suck, as you tend to forget your favourite stuff. I'll edit with some more later. I'm tired.

morbid tales 04-14-2004 06:07 AM

DimebagDarrell 04-14-2004 08:01 AM
What in ure guys opinion is the best thrash solo?
Hmmmm This is a tricky one

1: Metallica - Dyers Eve
2: Testament - Practice What You Preach
3: Anthrax - Indians
4: Testament - Over The Wall
5: Metallica - Damage Inc

i am glad alot of people have put down fade to black because it sounds good but it is quite easy to play well it must be cauz i can play it

DimebagDarrell 04-14-2004 08:58 AM
dimebagdarrel: you bought an album without listening to it first?
yeh. i dont normally do that but it was very cheap and i had heard good things about them plus it kicks *** :thumb:

But no need to hurry, I can wait. :thumb:

NP: Possessed - Holy Hell

Stormrider33 04-14-2004 09:23 PM

Just picked up Souls of Black by Testament and it has some good technique on there. Not all the way through but theres still time. What are some other good Testament songs?

AParanoidIronMan 04-14-2004 10:33 PM

practice what you preach, into the pit, shades of war, the haunting, the new order, the preacher, absence of light, all i could bleed, allegiance, disciples of the watch, hail mary, love to hate, return to serenity isnt too bad as well and also ride....
all good testament songs

JMetallica 04-15-2004 01:44 AM

Eh, what an average band. :(

And talking about average bands... I picked upthe Suicidal Tendancies s/t album a week or so ago, and boy is it mediocre. What's all the fuss surrounding these guys?

manuscriptreplica 04-15-2004 03:13 AM

the haunted suck. manowar are power metal.

average band: sepultura. i used to think they were cool, but i listened to beneath the remains.. yawn.

best testament - disciples of the watch. or the haunting.

 for no reason. cos i just broke my pick probably.

NP regurgitator - kung foo sing. not thrash, but i dont care.

AParanoidIronMan 04-15-2004 03:52 AM

sepultura are like slayer (and all other thrash bands), to see them at their best, catch em live

Jondur 04-15-2004 04:14 AM

I saw Sepultura live four times (all but one with Max - Donington 96 he wasn't there and Andreas did vox) and they were good but never great (certainly not up to Slayer standards). And I've seen some thrash bands who are atrocious live (cough NuclearAssault cough). Thrash suits the live scenario (even when you're listening in your room you feel the need to mosh and stagedive!) but it also requires a certain level of sobriety! (Are you listening John Connelly?!!!)

manuscriptreplica 04-15-2004 05:57 AM

^^ most brackets in a post, ever.

i have some videos of slayer on my computer, and they are amazing (live, that is) they play exactly how they play on the recordings, and if araya didnt lose his scream, they would be the best live band around.

10 days to anthrax!!

NP joe satriani - the mystical potato head groove thing

JMetallica 04-15-2004 06:38 AM

haha... bit of early regurgitator eh? Cool. Can't go wrong with the gurg. :thumb:

11 days until anthrax for me :D

LordDargon 04-15-2004 09:29 AM
average band: sepultura. i used to think they were cool, but i listened to beneath the remains.. yawn.
 GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Bestial Devastation made just about every band around at the time seem like wimps

Ratmevilempire 04-15-2004 02:40 PM

morbid tales 04-16-2004 10:31 PM

I'd say my favorite Testament song is Into The Pit. Play that on a 85 degree day with a few of your friends around...

yeah Manowar is power metal. I used to laugh at them. Still do, but I respect them. C'mon the Gods made Heavy Metal!

and to the hail Cronos guy, lay down your soul to the gods rock'n'roll. I never get tired of Venom. Say what you will about them. They kick Slipknot's *** any day of the week

DimebagDarrell 04-17-2004 04:24 AM

Sacrifice always liked nu-metal. Man, his only reference to Anthrax is I Am The Law. Fair enough though.

DimebagDarrell 04-17-2004 04:54 AM

MOTÖRHEAD have set a June 22 North American release date through Metal-Is Records (subsidiary of Sanctuary) for their as-yet-untitled new album (the previously announced title, "Flash", has now been scrapped, according to the band's webmaster). The cover for the CD is once again being provided by esteemed cover artist Joe Petagno
