best thrash solo hmmmmmm........ well thats as hard to answer as the best thrash riff.........
but my fav 5 are

metallica - the solos in fade to black
testament- the solos in return to serenity
anthrax - death rider
exodus - toxic waltz
megadeth - tornado of souls

you have your thing as WTH yet you dont have a venom song as your fav solo??!?!?

its just that those 5 were the 1st ones that came to mind.........

This list is gonna blow major balls, but I suck at thinking of 'favorite' anything:

Exodus - Strike of the Beast (that little mini-solo is super awesome)
Dark Angel - Burning of Sodom (a mass of noise)
Megadeth - 5 Magics (bunches of great ones)

Metallica - Sanitarium (3rd solo)
Slayer - Angel of Death (hahaha 50 seconds of primal carnage!!)
Metallica - Hit the Lights (that run up the neck is so fast, right till the end!) \m/
Testament - The New Order (around the 2:45 mark)
Slayer - Raining Blood (hahah the divebombing!)

Just picked up Souls of Black by Testament and it has some good technique on there. Not all the way through but theres still time. What are some other good Testament songs?

sepultura are like slayer (and all other thrash bands), to see them at their best, catch em live

I saw Sepultura live four times (all but one with Max - Donington 96 he wasn't there and Andreas did vox) and they were good but never great (certainly not up to Slayer standards). And I've seen some thrash bands who are atrocious live (cough NuclearAssault cough). Thrash suits the live scenario (even when you're listening in your room you feel the need to mosh and stagedive!) but it also requires a certain level of sobriety! (Are you listening John Connelly?!!!)

i have some videos of slayer on my computer, and they are amazing (live, that is) they play exactly how they play on the recordings, and if araya didnt lose his scream, they would be the best live band around.
