What other ambient drone are you familair with Kage?

Kage 03-20-2007 01:07 PM

All of it, really. I was a nut back in the day.

the2stranger 03-20-2007 01:11 PM

Alright. :)

I hate how Nadja CDs always seem to be out of stock in my distro.

Moon Flavor 03-21-2007 12:56 PM

So on a whim, I slsk searched "yndi halda" and found someone with something interesting. The folder name is "yndi halda- rough recordings". It's 7 songs I have never heard of, and at the end of each song/file name, it says "awake! awoke! this heavy gloom!" as if that's the CD name. Now, I've known about the band since the first version of EEB came out in late 2005, and nothing has ever hinted at this other release. Anyone able to shed some light on it?

(I'm downloading it now, I haven't listened yet)

edit: I myspace messaged the band, and this is what I got...

hello,

yes we've had a couple of people mention that release. it seems to be (rather strangely) my high school music coursework assignment pieces, and a couple of home demos of ideas of tracks, and the first 2 or 3 songs we wrote under the name, all of which would have been written when we were around 15-17 (and just learning to play our instruments).

i don't remember titling it that, or indeed putting the songs together in any form that would resemble a release, so it must have been someone else's doing.

glad to hear you enjoyed it, though.

and yes, we will come to America as soon as we can!

best,

James

I don't know if anyone cared, but that's that...

Double post:

I just got the leak of the new 65daysofstatic album, "The Destruction of Small Ideas". It's, as expected, amazing! A lot less electronic...all of the drumming is on an acoustic set (or it sounds that way...) and the band departs a little from their normal sound. It's a lot more math-rock and post-hardcore (I use that term loosely) and a lot less post-rock. I like it better than One Time For All Time so far though.

pixiesfanyo 03-24-2007 03:37 PM

65daysofstatic sounds like an instrumental version of Linkin' Park.

They're not bad. But eh.

Txus 03-24-2007 03:40 PM

I'm downloading the new 65DoS :D

AA-12 03-24-2007 03:42 PM

So can anyone name me some actually good ambient post rock? The first thing I heard in the genre was ( ), and honestly nothing else has even came close to it. I pretty much never find any decent bands anymore here, so anyone wanna point me in a good direction?

niobium 03-24-2007 04:13 PM

Try some World's End Girlfriend.

Txus 03-24-2007 04:14 PM

Or some Hammock.

I never really got the appeal. I have The Fall of Math on my computer... I haven't given it an extremely good listen yet, but what I have heard really isn't that impressive to me.

AlienEater 03-26-2007 10:20 AM

the second one is pretty good

pixiesfanyo 03-26-2007 10:28 AM

65Dos are pretty much shit.

ThePinkPanther 04-05-2007 06:36 PM

nah 65DoS are good

just some songs are better than others

I agree.

Has anyone already checked the new Grails album Burning Off Impurities? I think it's great, though it's a lot more psychedelic than their older stuff. It reminds me a lot of Apse, but I can't really make out who copied who...

Txus 04-07-2007 11:39 AM

Yeah, it's a really good album but I still prefer Black Tar Prophecies

Eliminator 04-07-2007 11:40 AM

Got Hurtbreak Wonderland.

Still need to listen to it.

You mind uploading it to the DU?

LF96 04-09-2007 02:28 PM

I'm not subscribed to the Daily Upload, but I got it here: http://soundweave.blogspot.com/2007/03/grails-burning-off-impurities.html The megaupload links should still work.

I should give Black Tar Prophecies a full listen, the songs I've heard from it are excellent. :)

bwnstl 04-09-2007 04:08 PM

Thank you lots. And yes, Black Tar Prophecies is great.

I'm really enjoying the new one. It has a totally different feel than their first two, I think.

Txus 04-10-2007 10:33 AM

Any thoughts on the new God is an Astronaut album?

Citizen Snips 04-10-2007 06:49 PM

I heard some people like the band Citizen Snips... (shameless plug : myspace.com/luckyakacitizensnips or unsigned.com/citizensnips ) sorry :(

no propellers 04-11-2007 10:35 PM

awhile back i downloaded Dirty Three's album Cinder. i wasnt really impressed and havent listened to it since.
but after reading more acclaim, i decided to give anouther one of their albums a try, Ocean Songs. And i am very impressed.
i really cant explain it, some tracks are quite somber while others seem to peak more in maybe a more typical post-rock fashion.
any one else have a love for the dirty three?

ATM 04-11-2007 11:39 PM

Any Maserati fans? I know Txus likes them. I am really digging them.

Kage 04-12-2007 07:37 AM

They're named after an Italian sports car, so they must be good.

ATM 04-12-2007 08:51 AM

Check them out, man. Really great band.

TojesDolan 04-12-2007 09:37 AM

65 daysofstatic has it's moments.
