But as Kith said they don't always make more money on the Majors. Where's the proof that they do?
Numbers and promises get confusing.
Numbers and promises get confusing.
This whole thread/"issue" is now confusing. I really don't know what to think of AM!, I spose there will always be a soft spot, cos their songs opened my mind and eyes to a whole new world of rad music, politics and ideals.

SkaRobotArmy 12-29-2005 12:41 AM

i'm a little out of the loop, they signed with Sire Records immediately after recording their last album?

If such is the case, they're contract was probably up and perhaps fat wreck didn't deliver. Did you ever think FW was the controlling one? Maybe wanting to push his label closer to the majors, fat mike was doing the very thing you're all accusing Sire of. He saw an opportunity in AM! and tried to run with it but AM! wouldn't have it. Major doesn't always mean less control, they have to sign a contract and i'm sure they have some say in the producer, if not all of it. I'm sure AM! wouldn't sign knowing they were going to lose their creative control...

Sid 12-29-2005 12:54 AM

We're all well aware Fat Mike is a douche.

CameoRole 12-29-2005 12:58 AM

You know, logistically, Fat Wreck and Sire are pretty much the same. One just has greater distrobution and I'm not even sure of that.

Sid 12-29-2005 01:17 AM

Yeah. Fat Wreck basically operates like a major. They just aren't owned by a corporation.

CameoRole 12-29-2005 01:45 AM

In all honesty, looking at it objectively, Sire is probably better for them than Fat, assuming they signed. Sure, there are 'advantages' to Fat, but I think overall, Sire ain't so awful.

tappenzee 12-29-2005 10:17 AM

In the end, everyone's gotta just realize that music is entertainment and at best, a nice jumpoff point for political action. It can be used to spread ideas in a fun way, but we can't just put faith in some band to singlehandedly change the world.

They make catchy music, spark interesting political/social debates, and do their best to keep their integrity in tact while making a decent living for themselves. But beyond that, if we're really expecting any kind of change, musicians aren't gonna be our saviors--only we can save ourselves.

You should read that article from steve albini in the previous page I think. I'm not saying this is the case but just to let you know that things happen.

I already said there is a huge difference between Against Me and your average run of the mill started band.

Fat Wreck does one album contracts. Say what you will about Fat Mike, but Fat Wreck is one of the better labels out there and artists tend to be very happy there.

Sire doesn't look that bad either. A lot of their current artists are doing pretty well and aren't major label standard artists. In fact, very few of their artists have been (save for Ice Tea and Madonna).

The question is really how much control Warner has over what Sire does. If Sire is making money (and looking at it's current roster I imagine it is) then they probably leave it alone. After all, Warner has only been owned by it's current owner for about 2 years.

Brain Toad 12-30-2005 01:00 AM

How much effort does Warner in general put into music and record labels? I hear very little about them as a record label and it seems it wouldn't be their main concern to be very strict and controlling of these bands because their money doesn't depend on their record label, it depends on their movie industry stuff.

Plus almost all the sub-labels they've acquired are former independents or small time labels like Elektra and Rhino.

It's a different story with companies like Sony BMG and EMI who are pretty much music only (Sony does have its hand in other things, granted, but the BMG half doesn't)

Hey, I already said it doesn't have to be this case. Also I like Fat Wreck, I haven't said anything bad about them, they have lots of bands I like. I was just saying everyone should read that article because it's very interesting general culture.

Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Rest upon your laurels, glad you've found your peace but
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me

Rapping at the chapel door
Sweeping up an enemies floor
Do not touch or make a sound
Keep your eyes upon the ground

I read your countless volumes
Shunned your many sins
But I cannot find salvation
In the rattling of your tins

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Rest upon your laurels, glad you've found your peace
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me

A flag is waved, a bomb is thrown
So many names and dates to know
Books upon the books are stacked
To get something so simple back

We're talking revolution
But spirals not the spins
Where you fall down dizzy
And forget where to begin

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Suiting you, suiting you
Suiting you, suiting you

Turn your blessings into weapons
And hold them before your chest
To you and all your comrades
I only wish the best

We may not meet again
For we are treading separate trails
But I'll cast off at dinner
You won't seize the roads or rails

From chapels to the army
Magicians to the knave
You'll either blaze your own trail
Or you're diggin your own grave

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Your armour will not fit me
Your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you
Your armour will not fit me
Your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

So farewell, good fellows
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, good fellows
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Not for me

Thanks.

Could someone who has the first 12inch with the remastering problems message me? I have a question about one of the songs.

My AIM screen name is Myriad Choices.

I just learned this song. So fun to play on an acoustic.

TakeWarning 01-02-2006 07:09 AM

I don't know how to play any of their songs yet. It's too much of an effort to find reliable tabs these day, and none of their songs reall have great basslines anyway.

Angry Balled Fists! 01-02-2006 09:18 AM

I like to play I still love you julie, walking is still honest, pints of guinness, Unprotected sex with multiple partners etc

Anarcho Poser 01-02-2006 12:34 PM

I may have to second this, since that's all I've been listening to today, until about 3 minutes ago.
