I think I like The Roots' Game Theory about as much as I like Things Fall Apart, which is to say, some songs are excellent, most do nothing for me.

We_Love_Lime 09-16-2006 02:11 PM

Yeah I know what you mean.

Theres only a couple on the Roots Game Theory that stand out to me, but those that do, are ****ing marvelous.
Things Fall Apart was pretty cool.

I'm totally digging Deltron 3030 right now though.

Eliminator 09-16-2006 02:20 PM

I really need someone to send me Illmatic. For some reason I can never get it on slsk.
I'm totally digging Deltron 3030 right now though.
Towards the end of the album it starts getting kind of boring, but I really like it.

Robert Crumb 09-16-2006 06:33 PM

"Kick Push" was pretty far from the best stuff Lupe had on the initial leak. Just a step up from the heredouz Mike Shinoda produced track. Although Lupe does pretty good on the track, the production is just so ugh. Haven't heard the retail leak. Just gonna buy it on Tue. I like the new tracks he's done, though.

And yeah, to the person who was asking about Papoose, he's alright, above average flow. With some solid beats, he'll make a worthwhile major label debut. Hopefully it won't go to his head.

We_Love_Lime 09-16-2006 07:37 PM

It's so Intelligent.
Most of MF Dooms stuff I don't get.

I have Occult Hymn and The Doomilation Bootleg
And I don't get what's going on at on.

I agree... After a while Dels flow gets sort of repative, you sorta know how everything is going to be said.

What do you guys think of Method Man?

2muchket! 09-17-2006 06:49 AM

Not a fan of Method Man' music really.

sgrevs 09-17-2006 08:38 AM

Huge MF Doom fan, got heaps of stuff.

Method Man not so much, but his song on 36 Chambers is ace.

Txus 09-17-2006 08:55 AM

I already have Illmatic. What other Nas should I download?

dUSK 09-17-2006 09:02 AM

I'd say Stillmatic, but it's the only other full Nas album I have. Getting a second recommendation would probably be advisable.

Rams 09-17-2006 09:44 AM

I don't like MF Doom, his voice puts me to sleep. His work with Danger Mouse is good, mainly because Danger Mouse is good. The rest of his albums are kind of stale, with the low being Madvilliany. I'd say I dislike Madlib more than Doom though.
I still don't get his relation to MF Grimm.

I saw him play live last year, he was awesome. I generally like all of the Wu-Tang guys.

We_Love_Lime 09-17-2006 10:36 AM

MF Doom is pretty cool, he doesn't put me asleep, I just never know what he's talking about.

ATM 09-17-2006 10:57 AM

You guys are nuts, Doom is one of the best things going on right now.

Have you heard the King Gedorah album, Take Me To Your Leader?

Quirky Turkey 09-17-2006 11:36 AM

I've been listening a lot to The Beastie Boys album Paul's Boutique. The Dust Brothers production is mindblowing on that record. Can anyone tell me what other Beasties records I should be checking out?

Robert Crumb 09-17-2006 01:53 PM
I still don't get his relation to MF Grimm.
I think he's just a friend or something. Did anyone hear check out that 3 disc album he put out? I was always curious about that, but never quite found out what the deal was.

LF96 09-17-2006 02:07 PM

Doom & Grimm have made an album or EP together, but the MF's in their names stand for something completely different:

With Doom it's either Metal Fingers (when he's producing) or Metal Face (when he's rapping). With Grimm I remember it being Master of Flows or something (correct me if I'm wrong).

They've been having beef for quite some time now though. I think Doom dissed him somewhere on DangerDoom (or maybe Mm...Food). Grimm has dissed Doom already on several occasions, making whole songs about it. Too bad, I liked it when they made music together.

Kyle 09-17-2006 02:11 PM

MF Doom is really great, but agreed on not following his lyrics sometimes.

Hello Nasty because Intergalactic is one of the best songs ever.

Kaden 09-17-2006 05:17 PM

Has anyone here heard Rap Phenomenon 2? It's this 2003 mixtape where 3 dj's put Tupac's vocals over beats from modern rap songs. I personally think it's amazing, mainly because the big problem I have with Tupac is that alot of his beats are so lame. You should definitely check it out.

We_Love_Lime 09-17-2006 05:32 PM

Lol.

Brendas got a Baby over 50-Cent's Candy Shop.

What will the world do next?

haha, I thought you were serious, so I listened to the beginning of every song only to realize you were joking.
Did anyone hear check out that 3 disc album he put out? I was always curious about that, but never quite found out what the deal was.
I just picked up that album. I'm about to spin it for the first time. I'll let you know how it goes.

The deal is just as you said it. It's a triple album, hip hop's first. Apparently there are no filler tracks, and there don't appear to be any skits. In fact, most of the tracks are longer than 3 minutes. This is going to have to be really impressive in order to not utterly fail because of its length. We shall soon see.

Kyle 09-17-2006 06:45 PM
Can anyone tell me what other Beasties records I should be checking out?
Hmmm, depends what you're after.

For varied styles/genres - Ill Comunication
For pure Hip Hopage - To The Five Boroughs

Once you've checked those, then I'd suggest Hello Nasty. Although it's got great songs, there are some pretty weak tracks on there too.

JonM 09-17-2006 06:55 PM

Paul's Boutique is the only interesting Beastie Boys album.

In other news, this Grimm record is good as fuck so far. Only 57 more tracks to go.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-17-2006 07:27 PM

What does everyone think of the new Roots album? I think several songs could qualify as classics and I haven't even listened to it in it's entirety yet. It's probably the best Roots album I've heard.

Who likes Big Moe? A-lot of his songs can be mediocre but there a few songs ("Bar Baby", "City of Syrup", "Purple Stuff"..etc) that are infectiously catchy.

POINTLESS5448 09-17-2006 07:53 PM

hey do any of you kids have slsk?
i dont know anyone with alot of good rap on there.

The Jungler 09-17-2006 08:52 PM
Hello Nasty because Intergalactic is one of the best songs ever.
Man, that song owns, as does the video. I remember being introduced to The Beasties via Jim Shearer on MTV2. He was hosting like best of The Beasties video countdown. Sabotage was at one, I think Intergalatic was 3 or 4.

It's the worst Roots album. Black Thought is as unimaginative and unoriginal as ever. The beats are pretty good, but they didn't have many memorable hooks outside the single and felt like a lame duck backing Thought. The CD is also very top heavy, with nothing really memorable once "In The Music" finishes failing. They should go back to trying to make hits than making profound albums with a less than profound lead man.

Why do Da Backwudz rip off Nelly on "I'll Do"? When should anyone have to rip off Nelly?

stevensonmat2 09-17-2006 09:42 PM

^Yeah dude, i've seen the roots perform on leno, conan, and carson and all 3 performances sucked. The music is so generic this time around, im very dissapointed.

sgrevs 09-17-2006 09:54 PM

JonM hows that MF Grimm triple album? I'm really interested to hear the verdict on it. What's it called btw?

JonM 09-17-2006 11:03 PM
JonM hows that MF Grimm triple album? I'm really interested to hear the verdict on it. What's it called btw?
It's called American Hunger. I've only heard the first disc, but it is great. Really, really, really good.
