what are you guys doing that you get backstage!? i thought thats impossible!! any tips...
Well, when you join their fanclub, you have a chance of getting in. Honestly, that's the only reason I joined...I figured I'd give it a chance (and well, you get some other neat stuff). Not everyone who was there got in though which sucks 'cause alot of people were carrying posters and whatnot to get signed. You have have to be there pretty early and wait for a long time. ONly the first few people get to go in. Or you can always find someone who is already part of 'the spiral' and go in with them. Everyone is allowed to bring in one guest with them. Well, joining the fanclub was well worth it. Trent is such a nice, humble guy.

lionelhutz88 10-17-2005 02:57 PM

you'e very lucky to have met Trent. He seems pretty cool.

6COF6ATG6 10-17-2005 04:22 PM

im not trying to offend anyone but i personally have no faith in Trent Reznor mostly because he is not metal and has no song writting ability he is also a trendy fag who enjoys posing for magazines

Killtacular 10-17-2005 04:27 PM

Nice. Go die in a fire.

Shadows 10-17-2005 04:47 PM

NIN is not metal, but that has nothing to do with how much "faith" you can place on him.

Trent has incredible songwriting ability. This is damn near solid fact, not opinion. I'd be strongly willing to doubt that any of us could compose and arrange such complex music, let alone mimick the emotion Trent puts into his work.

Saying Trent is "a trendy fag who enjoys posing for magazines" shows that you have no idea what you're talking about. That is exactly what Trent despises in the music business, and he has never followed any trends. Go listen to Starfuckers for god's sake and then tell me he's an attention whore.

misunderstood 10-17-2005 04:47 PM
Man, you are so lucky...what did you say to him? I'd absolutely love to get to meet Trent. What was the setlist like for you as well?
To be utterly honest with you, I don't even remeber exactly what I said to him. He just shook my hand and asked how I was doing. I said fine and asked him how he'd been holding up on this tour. Told him I was very excited about tonights show...looking forward to an awesome time. He said he was just as excited and thanked me for being there. I think I said something like.."i appreciate you taking the time to do this for us' and he said.."no, thank you".
Anyway, the setlist was:
Pinion
Love Is Not Enough
You Know What You Are?
Terrible Lie
The Line Begins To Blur
March of the Pigs
The Frail
The Wretched
Closer/The Only Time
Burn
Gave up
Eraser
Right Where It Belongs
Beside You in Time
Wish
Sin
Only
Reptile
Suck
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole

Haha. I remember running into Bill Murray at a health food store near where I live, and I sort of said but was at a complete loss for words.

Oh and Holy Moses, that's an amazing setlist. Between The Wretched (!) and Beside You In Time (!!) all I have to say is wow.

misunderstood 10-17-2005 05:56 PM
That's a nice setlist as well...longer than some of the others they've been doing from the looks of things, although it suffers from my usual complaint of needing more stuff from The Downward Spiral.
Yeah, I enjoyed the setlist very much ('Reptile' was awesome) but I do wish they'd play some more stuff off of 'The Fragile' actually. I'd love to hear 'Just Like You Imagined', 'We're in This Together Now', 'Into the Void', and 'TDTWWA'. From TDS, I'd absolutely love to hear 'The Becoming' (one of my favorite NIN songs), 'Mr.Self Destruct' and 'Ruiner'.

Anyway, the good news is that they're going to embark on another North American tour in January. And according to Reznor himself, there will be more cities and longs setlists. Perahps some of the songs that haven't been played live in a while will come back. I'm looking forward to another tour.
Heh, I know the feeling about just not knowing what to say when you meet someone like that. Normally I'm a pretty articulate sort of guy, but when I met Thom Yorke I was completely lost for words. I can't even really remember what I said to him now, although I know it was pretty incoherent and involved professions of absolute love for his music. That's a nice setlist as well...longer than some of the others they've been doing from the looks of things, although it suffers from my usual complaint of needing more stuff from The Downward Spiral.
I was like that when I met Dredg. Of course, I'm not a very vocal person to begin with, as I'm better at getting my thoughts across in writing, but when I met them, all I remember was just hitting myself afterwards for how much of a fool I must've been.

Shadows 10-17-2005 06:08 PM
It's odd...his lyrics are quite simplistic for the most part, but as a songwriter he is amazing. It's the layering within the songs that does it...even though I'm not a huge fan, that's really well shown on The Fragile.
His lyrics are simplstic, but I', always amaze at how much he conveys with basic phrasing. In compositions, The Fragile is like a landmark.

repcak 10-17-2005 06:47 PM

when i first heard of the fanclub on nin.com i was impressed... what a great idea; Then i read that you have to pay for the fanclub and that their are several "stages" of clubs... normal, premium, etc. so to join the premium-club you have to pay more.
that's annoying!! Trent has enough money and i find it a stupid and damn idea to do so... Joe Satriani does it for free... i don't want to pay for a stupid club!!

Trent got so focused on money... i always thought, Trent is living for music, now i have to revise it!

Shadows 10-17-2005 06:49 PM

Trent has little/nothing to do with things like the fanclub.

bwnstl 10-17-2005 07:35 PM

Actually according to his website I think a lot of was his idea???

But regardless, Trent was never in it for the money and still isn't. I mean, he's taken like 5 years between records, is notoriously interview shy, and destroys all kinds of instruments at shows. He pretty much goes against everything a profitable musician would do. Not to mention he didn't have a lot of money until a couple months ago because his manager was stealing all of it.

repcak 10-18-2005 02:23 AM

ok, i agree... sure he isn't but its still stupid to pay for this!

when i went to G3 everyone was able to sign in on joe satriani's website and from all ppl, 5were chosen to get backstage and you haven't pay...

tenorbass 10-18-2005 08:31 PM

hey guys I am looking for the audio or video to Nine Inch Nails set at woodstock.
I did find the happines in slavery video. I http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1821687443682013228&q=Nine+Inch+Nails
So aim me angryyoungman621 if you have the video or audio.

lionelhutz88 10-18-2005 09:14 PM

Do they ever play Happiness in Slavery live or much of any thing off Broken?

misunderstood 10-18-2005 09:27 PM

They usually play 'Wish'..and the last two times I saw them live they played 'Pinion' and 'Gave Up'...They do play a few songs from it.

lionelhutz88 10-18-2005 10:20 PM

that's cool, I really enjoy that EP.

misunderstood 10-19-2005 09:50 AM

Yeah, I also like Broken very much. I do kinda wish they'd play a bit more from The Fragile though, but I guess it's understandable that they don't since they're on tour supporting With Teeth. Anyway, when they do the other US tour in January, hopefully the setlists will vary some more. Maybe they'll bring back some songs that haven't been played in a while..and hopefully they'll play some tracks that haven't been played live from WT like 'All the Love in the World'. I like to hear that one live.

repcak 10-19-2005 10:51 AM

the best song on 'Broken' is 'Help me i am in hell', i know its short and only an instrumental, but the title!!

i close my eyes, imagine 'hell' and listen to the song... :D it kicks ass

misunderstood 10-19-2005 11:06 AM

^Yeah, good song. Sometimes the instrumentals are the some of the most creative and best songs, I think. 'Just Like You Imagined' is one of my favorite NIN songs and it's also just an instrumental

repcak 10-19-2005 12:13 PM

and The Day the World went away...hm, its not an instrumental, but 80% of the song is instrumental, so it can be classified as one. [edit: the live version is longer]

and it's one of my favourite lyrics:

I'd listen to the words he'd say
but in his voice I heard decay
the plastic face forced to portray
all the insides left cold and gray
there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away

'the sweetest price he'll have to pay' ... the price is suicide. well, thats my interpretation; he is talking about 'a place that still remains, it eats the fear it eats the pain' - and what can it be, if not the other world?!

ps.: i listen to just like you imagined and i have to say i forgot how beautiful it is :)

bwnstl 10-19-2005 03:06 PM

TDTWWA is not an instrumental. Songs either have lyrics or don't have lyrics. TDTWWA does have lyrics, thus it's not an instrumental. It's still an incredibly beautiful song (and even more chilling live).

Kage 10-19-2005 03:08 PM
Not sure if this has ever been posted, but an in depth article and analysis of The Downward Spiral.

http://www.sickamongthepure.com/files/2002/02/TDS/TDS.html
just finished reading it.
A lot of things are very similar to the version of Med57 on Sputnikmusic, but this one is more complex and detailed.

Every NIN-Fan and regular in this thread should have read this article.

edit: is there anybody else who thinks that the song And all that could have been (album: Still) is one of the greatest Trent ever wrote!?

Shadows 10-19-2005 05:54 PM

I've never heard it. :( I wish Trent would stop releasing so many odd singles, EPs, and samplers and make larger, less frequent releases with more material on them. There's so many halos floating around it's overwhelming.

AATCHB is a beautiful song, I think. I hadn't heard that one in a while until you brought it up today. Awesome song.
