If you wanted to hook someone on The Beatles what song(s) would you recommend to hook them?

Whats the difference between Let it be and naked

TerryThorne 01-21-2005 07:00 PM

whats the most trippy beatles song?
whats the most trippy beatles song?
Tomorrow Never Knows off Revolver, backwards solo, distorted vocals, creative guitar playing and heavily influenced by LSD, if it wasn't for Lennon's infatuation with the drug there would be a lack of inspiration for a song such as this which lyrically and musically hints at a trip, the way out, spaced out feeling of your mind spreading out.

TerryThorne 01-21-2005 07:21 PM

Does anyone know if the phone number for the whole "beware of abbey road" message still works?

I believe it's just as it was played originally. No additions to quality of sound and less producing. Just to show the true, raw Beatles.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 10:07 PM

Let It Be...Naked = (Let It Be) - (Phil Specter's godawful production)

Idyll 01-21-2005 10:09 PM

I think you guys have got me wrong i am a massive beatles fan. I have pretty much all the beatles albums aside from meet the beatles and yellow submarine and i have about 15 books on the beatles. I'm just tired of people praising John Lennon and believing him to be the musical muscle behind all the beatles hits and lessor known tunes when its often not the case. I do think Lennon was a massive talent and of course its a tragedy that he died so young, but i think people must remember that he was only human and that he could often be tosser. Like Paul McCartney and everyone else.

Who else thinks Paul Mccartneys bass playing is underrated? I think he's a might fine bassist from what i can hear he seems to connect with the melody as well as providing rhythm and its all really fluid. What do some of the bassists think?

BludgeonySteve 01-21-2005 10:10 PM

Paul was the most talented Beatle at his instrument for sure.

Illmatic 01-21-2005 10:12 PM

George was my favorite Beatle, and based on "Taxman", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and All Things Must Pass (arguably the best solo album by a Beatle), he definately should have had more material on Beatles records.

I agree. I think George really had great ideas and musical ability that he couldn't always use in the Beatles.

Walrus Gumboot 01-22-2005 08:45 AM

I think that it's funny that so many people don't even know Paul played bass. I learned to play bass with his stuff, I love how it's not terribly complicated, but very... I don't know how to say, instead of the bass backing up the guitar, some of their songs seem to have the guitars accenting the bass,(think Something) its an essential part of the song rather than just another bassline

Woodstock 01-22-2005 12:13 PM

Paul had a knack for making catchy, addicting basslines. Hello Goodbye, Come Together, and Something have some of his best.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 01-22-2005 12:28 PM

Paul's bass playing is awesome. I like it because his bass lines sound more melodic than a lot that I hear.

I saw someone say that John never said he was a messiah...He actually did tell Paul that he thought he was Jesus Christ at one time. I just thought that was kind of interesting...

gmoneyguy 01-22-2005 12:29 PM

Who is Jojo?
Who is Jojo?
Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner, and all he wanted was some California grass.

Nice.

You think so? I'd say George on guitar > Paul on bass.

Paul played the Taxman guitar solo.

Yeah, the Beatles kind of restricted George's skill and talent

Illmatic 01-22-2005 10:45 PM

It seemed to me that John and Paul were a pair of blowhards when it came to putting the songs on the records.

Johnny B. Good 01-22-2005 10:48 PM

yep, they were @ssholes alright

appreciate_it 01-22-2005 11:49 PM

yeah i hear that all the time.

BludgeonySteve 01-23-2005 12:03 AM

George had a ton of talent. It's a shame that John and Paul didn't let him write more for the Beatles. They certainly didn't let Ringo write a whole lot. And what Ringo wrote was always awesome.
yep, they were @ssholes alright
they had to be.

"to be big, u have to be an arsehole, so the beatles were the biggest arseholes in the world, but no one wants to hear about that.."- John Lennon

Absolutely! Paul is the best bassist ever in my opinion! His bass lines are so brilliant, they suit the song so well, but also would stand out on their own as a composition.
As a starter question, what are peoples preferences: Let it Be or Let it Be Naked? I personally prefer Naked, I think its more polished
Well, that's rather ironic considering the title. I much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much prefer "Let It Be".

Well, he was an original bassist, and he came up with some novel ideas, but he wasn't a technically adept bassist, and he never, or at least rarely, seemed to really sync with his drummer the way a bassist ought to. He fakes that line in "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" two to many times.
