I've never actually seen his own film :( I just know him through the Toxic Avenger (part IV). Great character though.

Nice work on the "Gay is a Lifestyle" thread. :thumb:

superpeer 09-05-2004 08:41 PM

The funny thing is, the original thread was even more retarded.

halfdeadhippo 09-05-2004 08:45 PM

I didn't get to see the original post, but it had to have been pretty bad, with a title like that.

Kingofdudes 09-05-2004 08:47 PM

ill give you a simulation of the original post

"omg liek therr shuld b3 a g4y g3nr3 b4nds w0uld b3

linkinpark
blah

balhal

end simulation

superpeer 09-05-2004 08:49 PM

The original title was Gay is a Genre.

Riva 09-05-2004 08:49 PM

Sounds like intelligent viewing for todays society

I was just doing my Advanced Mathematical Techniques module, and a strange though occured to me.

Now, I'm sure you all are aware of the propensity for "n00bs" to create threads which are:

a) Illegal
b) Are carbon copys of the same thread which was done to death an hour ago
c) A hilarious mix of a and b.

Now, if one were to incoporate these into a formula, one would be able to work out the approx. number of pointless threads that the forum will produce each day.

My calculations are something like this:
Let N be the number of idiot threads being made.

Let a be the number of new MX users at any-one time. (Lets say 12)
But, as not all of the new guys are actual "n00bs", then we shall say approx. 2/3 of a are "n00bs".

Now, as everyone knows, as soon as a n00b sees a moderately succesful thread, he has an idea that maybe if he started a thread on the same topic, he too can be succesful. Hence, the amount of N is increased by 60% (multiplied by 1.6) for each moderately succesful thread (T).

Also, the rules are almost never read by n00bs, and even when they are, they tend to ignore them, because "they know better", or "they don't care", or "it's an important question". So the amount of N is reduced by 0 if the n00b hasn't read the rules (R1), and by 5% for each one that has read the rules (R2).

Hence, the formula we have so far is: N = (2a/3 x 1.6T) / 0R1 + 0.5R2

So, for 12 new users, 6 succesful threads and 4 n00bs who haven't read the rules, and 4 n00bs who have, we get the following value for N:

N = 8 x 9.6 / 2 = 38.4, approx. 38 idiot threads a day. It is scary to contemplate, isn't it.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve my formula, feel free. I suck at maths anyway.

Kingofdudes 09-05-2004 09:48 PM

 That is one way to look at it.

Bartender 09-05-2004 10:15 PM

I think I probably suck at maths more than you. I kinda cruised through it all the way up to GCSE level though, just then it suddenly got very difficult. Thankfully I'd dropped it by then, since I always hated the damn subject.

Riva 09-05-2004 10:36 PM

What's the GSCE? Oh, and if anyone's interested, the Forced Listenings up for grabs again.

Yeah, I hate it too, but I have to do it as it's part of my bio-chem course. :(

Bartender 09-05-2004 10:42 PM

GCSE is General Certificate of Secondary Education. First public exam with certification at the end of it in England. I don't even pretend to know the Australian educational system's equivalent, so I'll just say that you take it (normally) at 15/16.

I think if you don't know what to do then either do nothing. Or do Music.
Both acceptable choices but which is the right one. I say music.

Bartender 09-06-2004 11:19 AM

I don't know what to do either. That's pretty much why I'm taking philosophy.

OMG i love that game, i was obsessed hehe. i beat it over the summer again for probley the 20th time. what a great story line, they just dont make games like that anymore.

halfdeadhippo 09-06-2004 04:38 PM

I had it on my emulator, because I couldn't find a copy of it anywhere. The only problem is that the version had a bug in it that wouldn't let me open this one door. It sucks, because I really liked the game up until that point.

Kingofdudes 09-06-2004 05:05 PM

It works on my emulator, I really need to play it again.

They also made a port of Chrono Trigger and FFIV for playstation.
