Well, when i saw Tool during the Lateralus tour, there were people actually moshing. When the concert started off I was at the very front near the stage, but I had to eventually get pulled out 'cause it was just crazy and I wasn't even enjoying the music...so i simply stood at the back and i was pretty much mesmorized by the music. I mean, people were moshing to Parabol! Then again, this was the first time a rock band had been to that hell hole here in Texas. Actually it was the first concert ever held there...and now that I think of it, it was the first and last rock concert..sad.

pure anger would be so far against what lateralus was trying to achieve...
an enlightened, evolved state.... I for one hope maynard STAYs in APC cause they're great I hope Danny revives Zaum and they get bigger I hope Adam and Justin keep doing.....whatever the hell it is they do between albums... because tool is a synergy (an entity more than the sum of its parts) and the greater the parts, the greater the band. I think tool full-time simply wouldn't have the energy it does already... so we can all get pissed off at the delays in tool's projects, but in truth I think they contribute to the awesome force that is tool. It'd be hard to argue that the improvement and strength of MJK's voice isn't partially due to his work with APC...ditto the clarity of ideas.... or that Danny's drumming, especially his forays into electronics haven't evolve due to his non-tool work. i say go for it... a new tool album is like sleep - - i'll enjoy it, but its well worth the wait... |
The guys in Tool are far from Lazy. They all are involved in so many aspects of life and different projects that the Tool gig just isnt thier personal priority. They are in the posisition to choose to make Tool thier main focus when they want to and when they do focus on Tool the music it is always un-matched.
Quality over quantity..........
I think you are giving them a little too much credit. They are probably my favourite band, but i still think they are a little lazy. |
Maynard should go back on drugs. Drugs make bands good ie. Metallica, Silverchair, Oasis etc. Well, we shall see this when the new APC album comes out, i heard it's all about Anti-war.... :(

^^^
No he shouldnt. |

Covers of famous protest songs. Coming out on the eve of the US presidential election. |
If they want to do something like that, then they can do it. If it's good music then I will definitly pick it up, regardless of the lyrical content.

Although maynard did dabbled in drugs, his philosophy now is to achieve the same desired effect without using hallucinagens or stimulants. In other words, through the feeling of playing live, or creating a masterpiece. And oasis didnt make good music through drugs. noel made good music by ignoring Liam for a change. (ooo, personal opinion there, controversial of me!) |

Totally agree once again. |
Oasis got worse once they started taking drugs.
|
The best thing i saw oasis do was that unplugged things, bloody brilliant...Noel is qwality. Liam is a pein.
|
All the oasis songs I like have Noel on vocals, or very little Liam. He did so well in that Unplugged, considering Liam threw him in at the deep end by drinking 3 days solid and pulling out.
I think thats a bit too much Oasis in a Tool thread though, not that its a bad thing... |
Well shut your trap then! :p How long do you think tool will go on for, I don't know how they could satisfy their fanbase to not make another album. And I'd hate them to go like so many other bands, make 3 poor albums then call it a day.

 HOW DARE YOU! On a serious note, since all the members are geting on a bit, and maynard's voice, if he continues the way he does, probably cannot stay fresh and original forever (then again, looking at iron maiden). I think if they do continue to make more albums, that they will have similar length gaps between each like now, and the members will continue to be involved with side projects. I also predict at some point that maynard will probably choose between Tool and APC, but I dont think others share my view |
Do you think the rest of the band would carry onw ithout maynard. it seems to em now Maynard is only like the front of the band an the other members do all the real work. I hope your theory is wrong, I think he would choose APC :(
|
This was something I was discussing the other day, which member could Tool lose, yet you still would listen. For me, it would be Maynard, as I would be devastated if Adam left, no one could really fill Danny's shoes, and Justin's influence onnthe band is now deep rooted. As for how would replace Maynard, it would'nt be easy, but at the same time, an instrumental version of Tool would be fine with me.
Although I hope it will never happen, maynard might have focus in other places now, he still does have an important role in the creative process in the band |
If Maynard had to choose between Tool and APC I think he'd stay with Tool and I only say this because I know I've read it somewhere a while back. I'm sure he didn't come straight out and just said he'd pick Tool over APC but I know he made a remark that hinted that. Besides, I don't think he has had as many "problems" with the members of Tool like he has had with members of APC. Not big problems but problems nonetheless.

Tool could lose: Nobody and still be Tool. If Maynard leaves outright (It won't happen, guys), then it wouldn't be Tool.

It wouldnt be the same, true, but then look at tracks like Merkaba and Triad, great instrumentals and has Tool's sound. Just people who are deeply into MJK will be affect a lot more |
Adam Jones once said that the minute Tool stops enjoying playing together, Tool will end.

Still, even Merkaba carries a message, albiet through sound samples. Even Tool's name reflects Maynard and the band; the band would not have the same energy if their "messenger" left. Back to song discussion, does anybody have an interpretation of "The Grudge". I've heard things about relationships, but also lines like: Transmute these leaden grudges into gold which seem to imply alchemy, and Saturn ascends... I'm sure some of you have some insight into these lines and similar ones, and how they tie into the overall theme of the song and the album... I got nothin' |

I have never fully explored the song's lyrical meanings much personally, but I love to hear others interprete it |
I don't think Tool could succeed as an instrumental band without bringing in guest musicians - possibly even guest vocalists, but no permanent fixture in the band.
That wouldn't be a problem for them, though, considering who the individual members have worked with in the past. I just imagined Tori Amos fronting Tool. That would rock. |

I don't think anyone would leave Tool, and I say this mainly because the band seems so close knit, and if one left I think the rest would leave...maybe.. I can't imagine one of them leaving, and the band Tool still being around. I don't even wanna think of one of them leaving. They all put in a unique aspect towards the band. I see them as making Tool a "whole" band, i cant think of the right word, but the band is One individual, rather than composed of 4.. i think, does it make sense?
also: i forgot what happened to Paul D' Amour... Why'd he leave? I know Maynard said "creative differences" or something, but do u guys know any other info? |

Tool wouldn't be Tool if any band memebrs left. Without Maynard the lyrics wouldn't be the same, and neither would the voice. Without Adam the rifs would be different. Without Justin's bass lines, it wouldn't be the same. And of coruse without Danny Tool wouldn't be the same. So each member makes up what is Tool. 4 members into really One great thing.
|
Help me out.
"Saturn ascends, comes round again. Saturn ascends, the one, the ten. Ignorant to the damage dooooone." I think that "the grudge" is about relationship but i can't figure out this part... help me out. |

You can say the same about any band. |
