Nice avatar, shes amazing.

RockAndRoll 06-09-2004 07:02 PM

I'd reccomend a live album such as... live. expecially if you're looking for a good old drum solo.

Paranoidd 06-09-2004 08:17 PM

The solo on "O Baterista" from the Live in Rio DVD is nice.

My uncle still tells stories of the glory days...seeing Neil Peart play a 20 minute drum solo while him and his kit are suspended upside down.
There Has Never Been A Better Lead Guitarist In Terms Of Solo's Than Jimmy Page Because Although He Used Them All The Time They Had Structure And Timing, He Used Space And Didnt Just Go Off On A Solo Which Was Totally Independant Of The Song As Many Artists Do.....it Always Fitted 110% Perfect
Joe Walsh can take Page with soloing. Check most of Walsh's stuff out, with James Gang, The Eagles, and Solo. That guys amazing.
Not classic without Jeff Beck…
Yeah, I bought The Jeff Beck Groups Truth. Great stuff :thumb:. Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood on Bass, and Beck on guitar :thumb:

BludgeonySteve 06-10-2004 06:24 PM

Ok I really like Led Zeppelin adn Jimmy Page but i'm tired of all of the fans. They are convinced that Page was the greatest guitarist ever. Now he is very good but he's not the best. I say that's he's overrated by the Led Zeppelin fans.

I agree that Walsh is a better soloer than page. There are many people who can solo better than page. Page's solos are most of the time short bits of blues scales are really fast things that last 30 seconds. David Gilmore, Neil Young, Jeff Heily, Dicki Betts, Duane Allman, Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen and Eric Clapton all do solos that I enjoy more (if I did a top 15 Page would probably be on there).

Page is overrated!

*Throws brick* I meant what I said about no more talk about how great Page and Led Zeppelin are!

lunch998 06-10-2004 06:31 PM

i agree that there are people better than him, but instead of calling page overrated just say everyone else is underrated. that way people obsessed with page dont get pissed off. (cause you know people will)

Clapton is amazing.

RockAndRoll 06-10-2004 07:03 PM

What's every think about steely dan, not sure if you'd consider them classic rock or not but they're a great band, good feel and very original.

Paranoidd 06-10-2004 07:10 PM

Anyone ever heard the band "Sam Gopal"?

I've always been a big fan of Joe Walsh, and i agree he's just as talented as Page, but page's soloes are better to me. Walsh is a really underrated guitarist in this day and age, however :upset:

_Yes he is Page is horrible now, probably because of all the drugs he took, Clapton is way better and still does a hell of a job nowadays, the same with Santana and Beck :thumb:

Badmoon 06-11-2004 10:31 AM

I have always loved Garcia's solos. They contain so much energy and feelings. Same with Anastasio's. Check out the song Farmhouse.

Zappa can probably out solo most, that guy's amazing.

magicbus 06-11-2004 12:01 PM

do you guys think a classic rock band would work today? i know its called "classic" for a reason, but you could recreate the sound of songs from the 60's and 70's. if I was ever in a band, I'd wanna play classic type stuff, but I figured nobody would like it. do you think a band like that would work today?

Paranoidd 06-11-2004 12:07 PM

Jet has been trying it, personally I think it sounds like shyt.

PJ Harvey reminds me of The Velvet Underground for some odd reason (don't ask why)...I like her.

Classic rock is just sort of a style of playing. We call it classic rock just because most band who played like that are classic.

boarding_bob 06-11-2004 05:24 PM

I have noticed that 1 out of every 5 people at my school seems to be wearing a rock t-shirt. I hope it doesnt become a fashion thing..

BludgeonySteve 06-11-2004 05:27 PM

^It will. Just learn to accept the trendy idiots ;)

pearlzeppelins 06-11-2004 07:03 PM

i think that the most influental band ever was zeppelin. punks got jealous of there awesomeness and couldn't handle zeppelin domination of the airwaves so they did what punks did. they rebelled. some may call zeppelin "plagarists" and yeah, they did "steal" a couple of songs but its not like their hipocrites. they dont sue people when they use their music (when the levee breaks, drumming???)

Paranoidd 06-11-2004 07:17 PM

Zeppelin tried a punk song on their last album...

Wearing and Tearing if you don't already know.

Broken Arrow 06-11-2004 07:44 PM

Wearing and Tearing is a Great song.

lunch998 06-11-2004 09:02 PM

yea the hell with punk

BludgeonySteve 06-11-2004 09:34 PM

I still think the most influental band was the beatles. But zeppelin did add a little bit. I want to get "how the west was won" the dvd is supposed to be amazing.

RockAndRoll 06-11-2004 09:45 PM

It is amazing

VoodooChild 06-11-2004 09:52 PM

You must get "How the West Was Won." Some of the most amazing footgae of Zeppelin live is in that DVD. I've seen that DVD 3 times and creamed my pants every time. It has half-hour versions of "Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love". Seriouslu, run to your damm store right now and buy it. You'll be happy. The performances are so full of energy, I got fudging goose-bumps. Anyway, go now...

BludgeonySteve 06-11-2004 10:16 PM

I am quite aware of who is on it. I will get it very soon.

~ZoSo~ 06-11-2004 10:18 PM

Man, I love Zep and I think Houses of the Holy is their best album, where do you get the DVD and how much is it?

joel_2_the_max 06-11-2004 11:10 PM

The Darkness is aiming in the right direction for bring back the sound of classic rock, their singer is good, music videos are gay, and there guitar is sub par. It just doesnt have the guitar playng that people like, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshed, Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, or Brain May. But their singer is high pitched and thats important. There are too many rock bands in today's day in age that have there singers mumbling in a low inaudiable drone voice. They all sound the same. I cant tell the difference between Creed and System of a Down singing wise. Or Nickleback for that matter.

my fav bands are:
1. LED ZEPPELIN (gods of rock)
2. Pink Floyd
3. The Doors
4. The Beatles
5. The Who
6. Rush
7. Queen
8. Van Halen
9. Supetramp
10. CCR

joel_2_the_max 06-11-2004 11:12 PM
And of course there are more hugely popular Classic Rock bands that should be known forever. Like, The Who (My favorite). They make music like no other. Each member was fabulous, all craftman. Or The Grateful Dead, who defined a generation, and started a long line of San Fransico bands. Or Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young. Who in many ways were the American, more talented Beatles. They had it all. For most Classic rock listens, that band is usually over looked, and The Grateful Dead.

I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands

Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Hollies, Blind Faith, Big Bro and Holding Company, The Mother of Invention, The Lovin' Spoonful, ect. There is just to much to name.
:p YOUNG IS CANADIAN

Groovy// 06-12-2004 01:08 AM

Def Leppard (they're kind of classic rock)
Led Zeppelin
Alice Cooper
The Doors
Black Sabbath
Blue Oyster Cult
Aerosmith
April Wine
Jimi Hendrix

Tons of people at my school have started listening to classic rock now too. I got alot of them into it actually.
