Sweet, Best of the B Sides just came in the Daily Upload! Kickass!

On another note, I really want to get some of Blaze solo work, but its damn hard to find around here.
You can get 'em off amazon.

But yeah blaze really pwns. If we're lucky on one of the history discs we will get the live performence they recorded for brazilian tv with blaze/

As for T-shirts: Eddie Rips up N.America, piece of mind (black and white) and thats it. :thumb:

temporary 05-01-2006 05:34 PM

I've only listened to a couple songs of Best of the B Sides, but Nicko and Steve sound awsome on My Generation, considering who they're covering (and Blaze is in top form.) All the other tracks I've heard sound great too.

Oh, and I'll check out Blazes stuff on Amazon, thanks Frank.

Edit: Sweeeeeeeeeeet cover of Cross Eyed Marry.

azninvasion292 05-01-2006 06:17 PM

i haven't really explored much of maiden's music, but i really like 'em
what album(s) does Blaze perform in?

Deth 05-01-2006 06:30 PM

Blaze is on The X Factor and Virtual XI. They are generally regarded as substandard by those not in the know, but we here know differently.

132WalrusesInMexico 05-01-2006 06:44 PM

Have you guys heard that Nicko McBrain is a born again christian? I found this funny for some reason.

Yeah, it's kinda weird.

I'm making a general announcement to all guitarists; Learn the Evil that Men do NOW!

The Dave Murray part is so much fun to play and it's a lot easier then I thought it would be.

I'm actually now able to play along to most Maiden songs on GP without looking through the tab...I feel special and kinda fuzzy inside

NINJA EDIT: 60 posts off 2,000 posts in this thread

well, you're obviously retarded.

Rattlehead 05-02-2006 02:06 AM

i can understand why he thinks that. Blaze changed Maiden in the time that he was with them. bruce brought what is for me the "real" maiden back when he returned. i might get some Blaze stuff nevertheless, it might be worth a listen.

Just remember, the music would have been the same with or without bruce. Steve wrote those songs based on the experiences he was going though at the time. The experiences made the x factor dark not blaze, remember that.

Riva 05-02-2006 05:05 AM

Blaze has a different voice, and I think that's what pisses a lot of fans off. Same thing happened when Tim "The Ripper" took over from Rob Halford.

IIRC, Blaze did have a hand in writing some of those songs, so some of them might have been a little less dark :p

Lord Abortion 05-02-2006 09:22 AM

Yeah, but not many of them

The upbeat song on the album, MOTE, is a non-Harris track.

fair enough harris wrote them, but Blaze certainly had an influence, its no coincidence that the blaze maiden songs in general sound far different from bruce maiden.

Josh 05-02-2006 01:12 PM

the whole Blaze-era sound is darker, and suits Blaze's voice better than it would suit Bruce's.
the latest diary isn't up yet, don't know why. normally they go up on mondays :(

I'm glad Blaze brought a different sound to Maiden, I wouldn't have wanted a Bruce clone (that being side, of course I'm glad Bruce came back.) Blaze's voice really suites the X Factor well.

Yeah, that was the problem with Judas Priest, they ended up sounding like a bad cover band.

JamJar 05-03-2006 12:32 AM

If Josh doesn't get the studio update soon, then someone will have to be slapped like ginger stepchild.

666Ozzfan 05-03-2006 01:51 AM

Hey, this is my first post in the Maiden thread. I'm a huge Maiden fan, and lately I've been listening to Fear Of The Dark. One thing that really strikes me about Maiden is that I find that changes in tempo in some of the songs on that album are very ... umm ... abrupt. Not really smooth at all. I feel they have improved that on Brave New World though.

I like them better live because those abrupt tempo changes really get the crowd going alot easier than some other bands do. I like the general Maiden sound too, the guitar harmonies really work for me.

As for Blaze, I'm not very keen on him, but thats just from hearing one song: Virus, so my opinion is probably not very valued regarding that. Haven't heard any of his solo stuff either.

Bruce's solo work is good. He's got a great voice, with alot of range and power. Balls to Picasso is a great album

-The Frank 05-03-2006 04:01 AM
IIRC, Blaze did have a hand in writing some of those songs, so some of them might have been a little less dark :p
But, many if not all the songs he has a credit to, he only wrote the lyrics not the music.
Infact i think he did only write the lyrics to the songs he has a credit to.

If that made any sense at all

You must get some Blaze immediately.

haha, sounds good to me.

Lord Abortion 05-03-2006 09:28 AM

Virus is probably the worst song from the Blaze era.

crag 05-03-2006 10:05 AM
Virus is probably the worst song from the Blaze era.
Agreed, it doesn't even have a solo:angry:

JamJar 05-03-2006 10:29 AM

I like Virus a lot. I'm not bothered by the lack of solo. Am I not tr00 enough of a guitarist? :(

most definately... i heard it and liked it but got angry when i heard that awful chorus(is it the chorus? "something-something is a social disorder!"?)

Maiden has had some decent political songs, and for the record, TAATG is the worst song from the blaze era IMO

I like TAATG, there was no need for it to be so long though.

good news, the album is mixed :D :D

and this morning on the bus i discovered how awesome the maiden cover of My Generation is. i love it.
* Iron Maiden Recording Diary - April 29, 2006 *

Greetings - winging my way to Germany to go and see the last show in Joe Bonamassa's European tour in Lorsch, Germany tonight. Had another very productive week with Maiden, and some hedonistic nights out with long-time Maiden photographer, Ross Halfin, but that's another story!!

Mixed another two songs this week - the first (and #8 on the album) is one of my favorite mixes so far, it's almost 10 minutes long and sounds huge and very cinematic and I am very happy with it. The lads came in and 'Arry says that's the way he thinks Maiden should sound - and wished he could remix some older material - but I think older stuff is to be celebrated because of it's chronological perspective, and should be left alone! Wing Commander Biggles rushed in on Monday to pick up a CD, as he was piloting a commercial flight to India later that day and wanted to listen to some mixes, and got back on Wednesday after a visit to the Taj Mahal and is ecstatic about the album's sound. I'm sure all you anoraks out there will find plenty of stuff to keep the bulletin boards and forums on fire for a while to come!!!

Adrian was in and played a killer solo over Song #9, sounding a little like Trevor Rabin meets Pat Thrall - with an octave divider - and then finished off with some kinda theramin sounding histrionics, over the solo section reserved for Janick - but it sounded so great, and Janick was away with his family, so we're decided to keep it!! Hope Jan doesn't mind............

Landing now - more later!

* Thursday, May 4 *

This will, in fact, be the last recording diary, as I finish the final mix today! And I love the album. Bruce was in again on Monday to do the last vocal track, which is so high, only dogs can hear it - and then we painstakingly compiled the early verses - as Steve has a very particular thing he wanted to hear on the vocals. Maiden do-all-chap Dave Pattenden came to the studio to do a recce for new Maiden pix with the photographer - Adrian called in to see how things were coming along - Davey's wife emailed me about their flat in London where I'm holed up (although no word from Davey, who's work on this record is stellar!), and on Tuesday, as I entered the studio I was suprised by the sight of Nicko in neon pyjamas, just landed from Florida, who embraced me very warmly (well, you could if you would, old boy - shouldn't you!). I love that man, but not as much as he loves me! It's true! Haha! 0h, that's an "in" joke, sorry! * To stop him talking, so I could work, I stuck my iPod into Nicko's ears, and played him the final mixes. He was very impressed, and so we sent our assistant Alex out to get Nicko his own iPod (which they no doubt put on the recording budget so now I'll never recoup!), and I dumped the Maiden tracks onto his iPod, along with some Alison Krauss and Miles Davis, before he went to see the Queen review, We Will Rock You, for the umpteenth time! There's no accounting for taste, really! After that, Wing Commander Biggles cycled in on his bike to pick up a CD before flying a sortie to Sierra Leone, as 'Arry looked over gigs for his gorgeous and talented daughter Lauren, who's becoming a star in her own right! Must be in the jeans.. er .. genes! Check her out at www.myspace.com/laurenharrisuk * So, it's like a bustling train station in there!

Jan was in on Tuesday, and we started the long and laborious process of overdubbing guitars onto the last song on the album. It's a lengthy process, because it's a song that he has written a lot of the music for, and has demo'd it with a very straight drum machine program, and not at all like the skip and galloping that Nicko and 'Arry have played on the track - and so we had to find the middle ground between the versions, which is ultimately how Iron Maiden sound! There are also layers af acoustic guitars - 6 and 12 strings - and after the lead solo Jan added late last night, all we have to add today are a few keyboard washes and then I'll finish the mix! Album done!!! And the title is............... I don't bloody know, and if I did, I couldn't tell you anyway, could I? Tomorrow I'll get the B side mixes started and then next week, I'll be mixing some surround sound live material for later use - before i head off to Barcelona on the weekend or the Formula 1 race, and then back to California.

And so, that's it folks - hope you've enjoyed the little I've managed to write for you on our studio shenanigans - and I hope you love the album, as much as I've loved being part of it again! See you at a show sometime - come up 'n say hi!!

Up The Irons!!
so, how long 'til release then?
