So I checked out Velvet Cacoon's Genevieve. I don't really like much black metal, but it's like a mix between drone/doom and black metal, and I thought it was pretty cool actually.

Also, anyone a bit more informed care to explain the whole "controversy" with this band? Something about cough medicine, and stealing other bands' music/artwork.

basically its a dude and a chick who do a ton of DXM and formulate retarded stories and rumors/events blah blah around their band to create hype and popularity , they make up fake demos, recording sessions and even their own instruments to add to their ominous image, they claim it is because of the drugs but a more plausible answer is they are simply fa[I]gg[/I]ots, they happen to create some shitty black metal as well that is oh so avant garde and unqiue and artsy cuz they are shrouded in mystery when in fact they are just pretentious art fags trying to become important, then they go and steal the music and artwork of some shoegaze artist to release as one of their own albums knowing they would get caught and knowing it would gain them a TON of publicity to boost their egos and add to their persona of faggotry, now they re appeared on Full Coon Productions with a new release coming of the same fuzzbox crappy lame pathetic black metal thus ensuing a new wave of gimmicks from this band will appear and their fanbase consisting of total brain dead losers will support them despite their jewish behaviour, yet no one around has killed off these kiddies which should have been done ages ago.

the charm lasts a song or two then its gone. I remember really liking one demo awhile back but not heard any recent outputs.

I only have [I]Geist ist teufel[/I]. I do agree that it gets sort of stale after a while but he really shines on the more lighter tracks.

Geist ist Teufel is their best, the only one I haven't listened to that much is the split. Like Cael said though it gets kind of boring when you listen to it too much. And on MV, I heard to Rape the Nazarene, did nothing. Do they have anything better?

Everyone who knows of Venom knows that they are the so-called first black metal band ever. This album coined the term black metal. Today we know black metal as the most extreme subgenre of metal and also the most controversial subgenre of metal. When this album was released in 1982, it had everyone that listened to it scared out of their minds. Why? Because nobody had ever heard anything so extreme before. Before this album people thought Iron Maiden was the most brutal band on earth. Even though this album was very influential to the black and death metal scenes of today. I just dont see all the hype about it and if you know me, you know I love black metal. This album just doesnt do it for me.
