Borknagar is a good band.
National Gallery, it was boring because our art teacher only let us look at 3 paintings in a 2 hour span :/
That sounds incredibly boring...

Never heard of them, where are they from?

Pshh.... I don't know, but they're definately one of those Scandinavian black metal bands. Here's some uploads.

They are from Norway, and they have had over time, three of the top metal vocalists of our time as well. Also I would just call them progressive black metal, they really aren't about the atmosphere in their music...

Garm, Vortex and Vintersorg are all who have sang for Borknagar, which is indeed very cool. The only thing that is bad though, the Vortex era Borknagar is kinda boring insturmentally, but Vortex puts on one hell of a vocal performace, but I think the era with Garm (A Tale of Pagan Tongue, is a great song from this era) is the best.

Dancin' Man 06-16-2005 04:38 PM

Borknagar win. I can't decide on my favorite album. Quintessence maybe.

Illmatic 06-16-2005 04:44 PM

I don't understand the animosity metal fans have for rap, and vice-versa; after all, both genres are just dick-waving contests.

The hell did this come from?

And what would be a "dick-waving contest"?

Illmatic 06-16-2005 04:50 PM

Well, I dunno, the metal talk at the moment made it come to me.

After all, both genres seem to devolve into contests to see who's tougher, who's "truer". Now, I don't know if metal bands hold the same grudges towards each other that rappers do, but from what I've seen it gets this way among metalheads.

Not to mention that acts in both genres tend to get clausterphobically self-serious and self-indulgent.

I don't know.

From what I have seen, either they get along for the most part. Or the bands don't want to get into a big drama fest and keep it out of the music and their news and such, because frankly, I think that would be quite stupid if they were all whiny bitches about each other.

Also, the petty squabbles between metal fans are usually between the open minded people, the just plain stupid people, and the big ol' bad elitests .

Elaborate on this again please.

Illmatic 06-16-2005 05:07 PM

I don't think there's much to elaborate. For the most part, rappers and metal bands take themselves way too seriously.

They do.. It was shocked when I heard two words 'Rap Metal' It was something I never thought I would hear in the same sentance.

The only thing I could really think where bands take them selves to "seriously" in metal is some bands in black metal.

Really?

I'm not very informed on metal, so I apologize if I got too presumptuous.

I know alot of death metal bands do not take them selves seriously, especially when their content is most gore upon more gore and violence. Also, power metal and serious in the same sentece? Haha, is the thing to be said the least.

But bands in black metal, like the LLN group of french black metal are completely 100% serious about every thing in their music, but that was only 4 bands, and I do believe 3 of them disbanded.

I am posting from the lobby of a hotel. Yay.

How is everyone?

Rap metal has a better ring to it, so RATM is rap metal. :D So is Hed PE. The difference is that Hed sucks, whereas RATM kicks serious US government ass. I finally bought Renegades yesterday. I never really had the urge to purchase because I knew it was an album comprised of covers, but man, I'm surprised at how Rage-anized they made the songs. I'd like to hear the originals just to hear how different RATM made the songs.

I also bought Relationship of Command by At the Drive-in, but I have yet to listen to it. Anyone's thoughts on this album?

Also, what are the 2 live tracks at the end up Renegades? My Media Player didn't come up for a name of the last 2.

it doesn't matter about how it sounds in a word. you could say that rap sounds better (as a word) than hip-hop, and yet they're different

Illmatic 06-16-2005 08:40 PM

I've said it once, I'll say it again...Rage Against the Machine is like Public Enemy, but more annoying.

CG: STFU.
it doesn't matter about how it sounds in a word. you could say that rap sounds better (as a word) than hip-hop, and yet they're different
Yeah, it was more or less of a joke. :p

And, I beleive it was Bart that said this but uhh, here: hip hop is the style of music, rap is the vocal style. That sounds like an accurate enough interpretation.

Ray- Have you been reading word-of-the-day toilet paper, or what?

Pete- I DL that Sol Invictus you posted about week ago, and I finally got around to listening to it today. It was Our Lady of the Wildflowers, I think. Anyways, I thought it was a good song. Very unique insturmentals, but I found the vocals to be pretty bland. Overall, it was a good song, but I doubt I'd buy an album by em.

Kurtz 06-16-2005 08:42 PM

Rage is PE, with guitars.

And a lot suckier.

No. It wasn't just that. I think it has been a buildup of crap that he's done, or just the way he acts.
