If you learn all of The Moor, I would like to hear that.
So would I.

UpperDecker 04-10-2006 07:53 PM

I can play most of it up to the acoustic part and can play only the first couple acoustic sections. I suppose tomorrow i can record it.

Killtacular 04-10-2006 07:54 PM

I don't know if I like this "Per" guy. He tickles ivories. That can't be natural.

Toaster 04-10-2006 07:55 PM
The mellotron makes Damnation for me.

I think Per will be more integrated with the band on the next album when compared with GR, so it should be better.
Well, I don't really like Damnation, so that could tell you something. :p

If Per is more involved in songwriting it might sound better. I just think the sounds Opeth made with simply guitars is way better than using a synthesizer to get any sound you need.

Yeah, the 'boards pretty much replaced guitar leads...

Kaiwaz 04-10-2006 08:01 PM

That's very sad...

Stormrider 04-10-2006 08:24 PM

For The Moor, I'm at the riff after the verse riff. I havnt practiced the part yet though.

sorry, but I chose that name at the time and then opened my mind to much better music than Nu metal like Opeth.

King_Karl 04-11-2006 05:18 AM

I just bought the latest Opeth album today. It's sick.

Still Life 04-11-2006 05:21 AM

I'll be going to see them in 14 days! Can't wait.

JamJar 04-11-2006 05:22 AM

^Lucky... I need to see them live, but the only show I could make was an 18+

Shadius 04-11-2006 05:53 AM
I just bought the latest Opeth album today. It's sick.
It really is. Overall great creepy atmosphere, some amazing songs. I'd rate GoP, Baying of the Hounds and Harlequin Forest in with their best, and Isolation Years in with their best clean tracks. Beneath the Mire and Hours Of Wealth just below the rest, with Atonement and The Grand Conjuration among my least favourite of their work, though still half decent tracks.

The progressive atmosphere of the whole album I just love though, even though it has two weak tracks.

When I compare it to something like Blackwater park which has four of their very best songs, and three of my least favourite.

I've given up on trying to rate Opeth albums I think. All I know is Still life, Ghost Reveries, Damnation, Blackwater Park (Plus the bonus tracks) and My Arms, Your Hearse are amazing albums.

UpperDecker 04-11-2006 06:09 AM

I think Isolation Years should have been a big longer and had a few more parts thrown in. It seems so.......unfinished i guess. But thats just me. I know i said this is my least favorite album by them but Ghost of Perdition is one of the best songs they've ever made along with Baying of The Hounds.

Shadius 04-11-2006 06:16 AM

To be honest, I think i'd like it if Opeth started making some shorter songs.

I love their work in general, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against long songs at all, but I was thinking, in order for Opeth to do something different... song structure wise, making a fairly short death metal song would be something fresh. Something like Demon of the Fall, maybe shorter.

Kage 04-11-2006 02:35 PM

I fail to see the logic in that a short death metal song would be fresh. Fresh for Opeth, maybe, but I can't imagine anything more stale than that in general.

Anyway, in my opinon the way they did Ghost Reveries was pretty fresh.

Shadius 04-11-2006 03:05 PM

Oh, I agree, it was. By a death metal song, I meant an Opeth death metal song, which wouldn't be stale because they always out their own twist on things anyway, and arguably havn't played "proper" death metal for a while. I mean, you could argue that the idea of a 3 minute ballad would be stale, but it sounded fresh in Isolation Years.

Sounds cool. Nice work. :thumb:

If you're into doing that kind of thing (I know I am), you should download Audacity and a drum program. You can record professional-sounding songs for free. I find it to be a lot of fun, although it requires a lot of effort and patience. I can elaborate if you're interested.

I downloaded audacity on my other computer (just to play stuff backwards lol). If its anything like setting up drums in powertabs then it'll be useless cause i dn't do that if my life depended on it. But yea i'll probaly download it again for other purposes with recording besides drums. Thanks.

Have you seen it live? If no, your mind may change if/when you do.

EDIT: Just about any drum program should be easier to use than the Powertab drums. I never got the hang of Powertab drums, but now I have Fruity Loops, and I love it.

Stormrider 04-11-2006 07:57 PM

I need to get Audacity. I want to record myself, I just havn't gotten around to getting it yet.

:upset:

Atonement's my favorite Opeth track on that album, and in my top 5 Opeth tracks. I'm actually hoping they take an Atonement route on their next album. It's the next logical progression.

I thought Beneath the Mire was their worst on GR.

Kaiwaz 04-11-2006 08:24 PM

Really? I think Beneath The Mire is my favorite track on Ghost Reveries. It's such an eerie song.
