Hello, Vince. You seem to find the computer (and MX) a bit more frequently nowadays.
I'm not apathetic to everything, just most things. Like my friends, this is why I'm on more often. I haven't talked to them in almost a month nor they to me, and so I work, sleep and spend time on the computer.

Illmatic 06-16-2005 12:09 AM

So I was talking to madey online and I brought up my ire about those who would rather be a little kid. Of course, I realize I am biased about this issue; my childhood was rather turbulent, and I am happiest and most secure right now, which is more or less the opposite of everyone else. By the time I hit my teenage years I had already seen the worst and paid my dues. After all, "Am I cool?" and "Does [girl X] like me?" certainly pale in comparison to "Are we going to have the apartment next week?" and "Will we be able to keep the electricity?"

Right now I am experiencing the happiness and stability that most people experience in their childhood.

And of course, losing your father--especially during the period in your life where you think he's the most invincible person on the planet--tends to shatter the innocence of childhood and sour any nostalgia of that period. But don't get me wrong, I am proud of where I came from, and I do have fond memories of my childhood. It's just that overall, my life is better now than it was ten years ago.

Bartender 06-16-2005 12:17 AM

It's kind of strange that you mention that, as I was just thinking recently how cool it would be to go back to being seven years old, and trying everything again a little differently.

EDIT: and Gates only said he was 200, not 300.
I see. Thanks anyway.
Why did you ask?

Riva 06-16-2005 12:27 AM

In terms of my life, I have the greatest luck when it comes to friendship. I recently discovered I have a fantastic girlfriend, two best friends whom have been like brothers since year 1 (14 years ago), and numerous friends who I have known for around 2-3 years who are amongst some of the nicest people on earth. So yeah, no matter how shitty my luck with money or University goes, as long as I have my girl, my friends, and my music, I'm set for life.

Jesus Haploid Christ. I've hit a new low.

I was in a relatively good mood today, so I thought "Well, I'm still single and can't get out as often as I'd like... Just for the hell of it, I'll try an internet dating site. It worked for a couple people I know. It couldn't hurt to try."

Turns out after filling out the personality profile test thing for the past hour, it ultimately told me I'm not inherently compatible with anyone currently registered in the site's database.

This has officially crossed the line into "fucking sad." Or is it "fucking ridiculous?" I can't tell.

ATM 06-16-2005 01:04 AM

You wouldn't want to be matched up with a lot of those people anyway, dude.

Steerpike 06-16-2005 01:08 AM

Maybe, but when a database full of people who really aren't that picky anymore turns up 0 results, where do you go from there? I have officially hit the bottom of the barrel.

How many girls do you think are actually registered on that site?

Steerpike 06-16-2005 01:14 AM

Seen it. Hits closer to home than I'd like to admit.

Steerpike 06-16-2005 01:15 AM
How many girls do you think are actually registered on that site?
... Well, that puts things into perspective in both a positive and negative light.

Elaborate.

It's late and my brain refuses to think.

Steerpike 06-16-2005 01:32 AM

On the one hand, it makes me realize that I wasn't looking in a very fertile ground anyway.

On the other, I just now realized that actually deluded myself into thinking it might work. I've become that desperate.

ATM 06-16-2005 01:34 AM

Just take it day by day :/

You never know who you might meet.

Bartender 06-16-2005 04:33 AM

Sounds like an invitation.

I'd think I'd like it being a kid again. I mean, think about how much imagination you had and how much fun you could have with a toy or a film. Sometimes when I find old toys or when I see a film that used to amaze me, I'm often disappointed or a bit sad. You got so much more out of things when you were little.

My teens weren't all that good though, and I'm reasonably happy at the moment.

Lord Abortion 06-16-2005 07:59 AM

well I'm off to buy something for father's day

ta-ra...

Thor 06-16-2005 08:25 AM

I just posted the new Great year in music thread. I hope you all enjoy it, there are some awesome albums on there. :thumb:

Cain 06-16-2005 09:55 AM

Morning, all. I have to ferry my parents around today and then go to babysit for these interminable kids, and then come home and chill. How's it hanging with everyone else?

Steerpike: don't bother with those compatibility tests, that's pop psychology.

Motion second'd.

I disagree. Internet dating, to me, seems a bit awkward/fishy. It's almost like going on a blind date to me. What if you got ten results, let's say, and all ten of them had the opposite temprament, personality, likes/dislikes, etc. as you?

I don't trust computers to make decisions for me, really. At least you're making an effort though. Have confidence that sooner or later something's going to work out for you.

And yes, I realize that this is the Internet telling you what to do, which kind of goes against what I say :-\

Actually, I just kind of wish I didn't move to begin with. I think I would have been happier.

ATM 06-16-2005 01:09 PM

National Gallery, it was boring because our art teacher only let us look at 3 paintings in a 2 hour span :/
