Anyone else heard the new Crypsopsy album? Its not horrible (1 or 2 of the songs are though) but its not great. Its definitely not Cryptopsy though. They really should of changed the band name.

I dont get why people say "Its not Cryptopsy" as if being "Cryptopsy" is anything special. What is "Cryptopsy" and why aren't they it? Because it's not like their last three albums were any better or unique sounding.

I have no intention of listening to it. Don't really see the point of downloading an album I know I'll hate with about 200 mb of free space on my HD.

So I think if I had to label one song as the definitive death metal song it would either be 'Left Hand Path', 'Override of the Overture' or 'Inpropagation'.

My definitive DM songs are probably like, "Pull the Plug" (although not my favorite Death song), "Body Bag" and maybe "Higher Coward"

Not too sure really, your choices are all classic songs though.

Maybe 'Chapel of Ghouls' as well, but that's just a lot of bias from me really.

I say its not Cryptopsy because the sound is completely changed and they have 1 original member left. There's clean singing and some almost popish parts to the album. Now take Napalm Death for example who has no original band members left, yet they still somehow sound like Napalm Death (not SCUM era of course).
Its good to take new directions (like Crypsopsy did with with Once Was Not which I enjoyed) but this new album astrays from anything that ever resembled Cryptopsy. Thats why its not Cryptopsy. Just like new Korn is not Korn, just like new Sepultura is not Sepultura. Thats the best I can explain why this is not Cryptopsy but another band using their name.

I prefer "Immortal Rights" over "Chapel of Ghouls" myself, the opening riffs are incredibly badass.

Yeah 123 on Left Hand Path. It's not my favorite death metal song (though it's up there) but it's without a doubt 'definitive'. 'Unpardonable Sin', 'Dismembered' and 'Infecting the Crypts' are up there for me too.

The solo at the end of "Left Hand Path" is easily one of the best ever.

I find a lot of metalheads act really stupid..there vocabulary is limited to "Kickass", "Hellyeah", "****" and their all time favorite "You're a slightly confuzzled sea lion". The reason metal doesn't get the respect it deserves is because a lot of people in the metal community are stupid as hell. I mean if you're all going to sport long hair and leather, at least sound a little more intelligent. BTW I love a lot of metal and I'm still learning about it, but I like the music..not the sub-culture.
