i tell ya what... Alexi Laiho may be good, prolly one of the best shred metal players in this modern era.... but i want to say that COB's synth player (Janne Warman) is awesome. i dont think ive seen a keyboard player go so fast man im tellin ya.... that band has so much talent its not even funny... when you got alexi shreddin` and the keyboard player playing the same thing i would have to say that... wow thas crazy stuff... i would think keys are a lot harder to play at those kinds of speeds
You cant discount Petrucci, Vai, Satriani and Loomis, but Laiho is one amazing guitarist.

i play in standard, but once i tuned to B-standard and i really liked it... Behemoth plays a lot of songs in B-standard. i should re-tune it once again to B-standard or try C-standard

Shattered_Future 02-09-2006 07:23 PM

B standard is a hilarious tuning...you can pull the strings so far off the fretboard.

Mad fun, though.

PsychoticFlubber 02-09-2006 07:27 PM

B tuning is only fun for me when play Amon Amarth riffs. I usually have my old strat in standard E, while I have another guitar dropped down one step, or dropped down one step in D like CoB's latest stuff. I change frequently though...

MRDuCran 02-09-2006 08:07 PM

Heh, E standard and octave lower than normal is cool, so is F.
Only for Meshuggah of course.

Toaster 02-09-2006 08:08 PM

Heh, I only play pre-Nothing Meshuggah for that reason.

Shadows 02-09-2006 08:15 PM

Try playing with something heavier than .10's woman. :p

MRDuCran 02-09-2006 08:28 PM

.10's? I use 9's and they aren't that slack, even in F.

Toaster - everything pre-Nothing is in Bb isn't it?

Shadows 02-09-2006 08:30 PM

Holy ****, I couldn't stand playing with that. I use .11's and I'm looking to go heavier. Loose strings are really annoying for me.

MRDuCran 02-09-2006 08:37 PM

I've never really experienced any of the regular problems that most people get with tuning down or getting a guitar with a floating bridge.

Plus, I can't play LoG riffs as easy on .11's, I use very small pick movement to clear the string.

Toaster 02-09-2006 08:55 PM

My .10's are pretty much elastic bands if I tune down to F.

And yeah, but to Meshuggah that was only down a half step.. they used 7 strings at that time. I can't comfortably tune down to their current F, so I stick with the Bb.

MRDuCran 02-09-2006 09:11 PM

Now it's freaking 8 strings!

Britton 02-09-2006 11:25 PM

I'm almost always in standard. If I downtune I just go to Drop D or C
when I'm jamming with Blues I'm playing open G

ya'll should try it sometime

MRDuCran 02-10-2006 12:18 AM

I was thinking about open tunings earlier actually, I doubt i'll do it though.
I like The Negation too, but I find Nihility pretty boring.
The tone is pretty poor, but it suits the songs for that album.

Theres some quality tracks on that album, though.

Shadows 02-10-2006 11:19 AM
