ive got the album, i was just wondering what you guys thought of it, because i havent listened to it all yet. i was uploading it, got through ghost of perdition then went to play guitar for a bit so i didnt hear the others, but ghost of perdition was good :)
|
Ghost of Perdition's good, but there's definitely some less good songs on the album as well. Not bad songs all in all, but with Opeth's usual standard... some of the songs aren't up to that standard.

Hey guys, just picked up Still Life.
Ripping it to my computer and listening to the Moor now. How do you all compare it with the rest of their albums? (First Opeth album I've bought) |
Reverie/Harlequin Forest is a strange song. It's not bad IMO though.

The bit starting at 2:54 kind of reminds me of the part in Serenity Painted Death that starts at 1:30 |

Never heard Serenity Painted Death, is it any good? |
Reverie/Harlequin Forest has a good start but goes nowhere and gets boring. In general I like Ghost Reveries apart from Atonement, The Grand Conjurarion and Reverie/Harlequin Forest getting boring.

(First Opeth album I've bought)
I think Still Life is their best album, followed by My Arms, Your Hearse with Blackwater Park on third place, but a lot of people rate Blackwater Park as the best. Most people will either say Still Life or Blackwater Park, in my experience. |

The Grand Conjuration is a decent song, but it's kind of mainstream death metal if ya know what i mean. |

Yup. TGC is only boring to me on the album because of how repetative the riffs are. Live, the atmosphere it creates is amazing. |

Serenity Painted Death is one my favourite songs of all time. |

I've never really got TGC. I see what you mean about it being more mainstream death, and in general, I am far from a death metal fan. |

Yeah same here, their ballads are what got me into them, mostly Damnation. THen i slowly got into their heavier stuff. |
I've barely got anywhere with Still Life yet still I'm blown away.
Heard a lot of good things about Serenity Painted Death too so I'm looking forward to reaching it :thumb: |

Indeed I shall, maybe my dad will be back in time to hear it too.
I'm sure he'll love it  Zomg, 10 more pages to teh evil number!!!! |
When we get to 666 pages, we all just need to post "DEMON, DEMON OF THE FALL" repeatedly until we hit the next page.
This will show our tr00ness. |
I only see 437 pages. You crazy kids.
Ah yeah, depends on how many posts per page you have. The Moor was probably the song that stood out the most first time through. Shame I can't get it onto my Walkman  |

Ghost Reveries is a fantastic album.
Not even close to Still Life though. |
Or MAYH or Blackwater Park.

Still,Great album:thumb:
Im listening to alot of Orchid lately. |
He did, on My Arms, Your Hearse.
And he actually did a surprisingly good job on it. Unfortunately the poor production makes it hard to hear sometimes, but there are some rather ace lines that he threw in on there. |

Sixty Ton Angel -Good choice of first album to get. :thumb:
Still Life has remained my fav for ages now. The riffage and acoustic picking just peak as the best stuff they've ever written, for me anyway. Serenity Painted Death is a fvcking good song, as you probably know by now. :) Is anyone able to play the acoustic picking bit near the end of SPD? I mean the a-minor part where he keeps hitting the high e in odd timing. It's got my head fcked. ;/ edit: failed at posting skillfully |
Are there any other songs like Demon of the Fall on MAYH cause that song kicks ***
|
^I suggest getting all the songs.
The entire album is heavy as hell. My Arms, Your Hearse is in second place now for me, as far as album ratings go. |
^No 3 for me. Still Life > BWP > MAYH. The favourite album list will begin again no doubt.
|
Is there many other progressive bands like Opeth because I havent heard any the closest prgressive band I have heard to Opeth is maybe Tool
