I saw Exodus Sunday night(along with Watch Them Die,3 Inches Of Blood, and Crisis)
:( We could've played with them tomorrow....

Freezing Moon 10-25-2005 06:04 PM

Thrash competition this month. :D

FatalEnergy 10-25-2005 06:07 PM

I'm pissed, I have this Kreator Bootleg where they play the whole thing of "Awakening of the Gods" and the managed to skip the best riff in the song!!!

I don't understand why, but it's lame

NP: Kreator - Awakening of the Gods

Apocalyptic Raids 10-25-2005 07:23 PM

I would enter if I had the right recording capabilities. By the time my exams finish, I don't think I'll be able to organise and write in time :(

I will definitly be voting though. Hopefully there is a clear outline of what is and isn't thrash.

Certainly hope so.

Anyone know some good strings for thrash? DR or GHS perhaps?

Corporal Compendia 10-25-2005 07:37 PM

So I've been listening to DBC's Universe album a lot lately... usually I stick to the self titled, cause it's just killer crossover, but this album... it's so... out there! I didn't really like it at first, but I'm now starting to appreciate it much more. Can't wait to see them in December.

I've seen DBC on a lot of Canadian show flyers, I might have to check them out.
Thrash competition this month.
Man, they judge that competition all wrong. They should allow the regs in this thread to be judges; I don't want any fagcore gothenshit songs with half-thrash riffs winning a prize.

Go 10-46, 10-52, or 10-60 guage. I like D'Addario but there's not much difference between those and Ernie Balls. I think GHS suck, they get dirty really fast. DR I've never tried though I hear they're excellent.

I'll enter if I get the time to write, we'll see. I'm afraid it'll be too 'forced' though if you know what I mean.

Corporal Compendia 10-25-2005 07:53 PM

Well, if you do check out DBC... their first album(self titled) is some good old fashioned ripping crossover. Then Universe is thrash from the school of Voivod(Killing Technology/Dimension Hatross).

I recommend both.

This is exactly why I am going to be policing the fuck out of that thread.

I encourage everyone else to do the same because surely people like KittensInMicrowaves and others will come in there raving about how The Haunted are the best thrash band ever.

NP: Morbid Saint - Scars

Apocalyptic Raids 10-25-2005 10:19 PM

The Haunted

Bazarov 10-25-2005 10:24 PM

http://immortalvideos.com/downloadables.htm I just found this website. But they have some cool videos. They have some Exodus and Slayer on there, some bands I haven't heard of, quite a few death metal videos. Just thought some of you guys would be interested.

FatalEnergy 10-25-2005 11:24 PM

You have to buy all the good ones.

I think I may enter that competition, if no one else wants to, I'll just record some real thrash, even if it is kind of generic and use a drum machine. That would be kind of lame though

I might enter but i wouldnt have a way to upload any of my songs, atleast not until i can be bothered to buy a USB cable :P

Yeah, goddamn.

I'm thinking of recording one of my band's songs on a 10-track and submitting it...would we be allowed to send in original songs from our bands, or does it just have to be an individual thing? Because I wrote the whole song anyways....if not, I'll just write an original, I've got ideas comin' out the wazoo.
songs with half-thrash riffs winning a prize.
pfft, "half-thrash". It's either thrash or not thrash at all. With this era's music, it's the latter posing as the former...not saying it's bad music, but you get my point.

NP: Kreator- Death is Your Savior

Apocalyptic Raids 10-26-2005 09:25 AM

I think the songs are supposed to have been written in the month. Although you could just submit it anyway, personally I don't see why it should be an issue.

ThrashMaster27 10-26-2005 09:26 AM

I was thinking of entering, but I just don't have the right recording equipment to make it even sound half good. Got the ideas, just not the equipment.

Don't even think about saying "That's what she said".

Well, good enough because I just wrote the song a week or so ago...

But if it's an issue, I don't care I'll just write a new one.

:amaze:

OK, can't upload anything, but if you can, download some Destruction, Sodom, Possessed, Kreator, Demolition Hammer, Razor, and old Exodus (I'm talking Bonded by Blood or Fabulous Disaster).

All of those bands should help.

Sign up for the mailing list.

Get on soulseek and go to the thrash room and download stuffs that are talked about in here. For starters...

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Sodom - Agent Orange or Persecution Mania
Nuclear Assault - Game Over
Coroner - Punishment for Decadence

If you don't have soulseek or can't get on for whatever reason, you can also check amazon and band websites for samples and whatnot.

And http://heathenmetal.com for Heathen's first two albums, in full.

Unless it's "half" death "half" thrash or "half" black "half" thrash in which case it's usually very good. ;)

But that's not what half-thrash is. It's watered down thrash with a bit of groove in each riff.

The kind of "half-thrash" you speak of is good, yes.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. The bad kind of half-thrash is just terrible for the most part.
