No not acoustic.

Metal version, with clean vocals.

Eliminator 09-23-2006 11:42 AM

TLA would suck with just clean vocals.

Shattered_Future 09-23-2006 11:45 AM

Unless it was all acoustic...

Eliminator 09-23-2006 11:48 AM

I think electric would be a lot cooler in a talent show situation. Especially with massive amounts of volume.

TojesDolan 09-23-2006 12:11 PM

But clean female vocals.

Shattered_Future 09-23-2006 01:11 PM

And miked acoustic instruments.

Eliminator 09-23-2006 01:12 PM

Distorted acoustic!

Shattered_Future 09-23-2006 01:51 PM

I think my friend's band did that once. :smash:

TojesDolan 09-23-2006 05:09 PM

I don't have the force to sing and play The Leper Affinity.

It has almost zero strumming so I'd have to sing and play lead and that's like ugh distorted chords and dissonant single note leads. :(

LifeofMusic 09-23-2006 09:40 PM

Going to gigantour in 15 hours, Opeth in about 20. Anybody know what stuff they'll be playing?

And yes it will be awsome and my neck will hurt from headbanging for 8 hours, but its all worth it.

ironmanx 09-24-2006 06:28 AM

Im going to the Toronto show i Take it your going to the Detoit gig. Detroit is closer to me but I live in canada.

They have played the following songs at previous Gigantours this year, not all at one show.

Deliverence
Windowpane
The Leper Affinity
Baying of the Hounds
Godheads Lament
Ghost of Perdition

Well where do you live?

Windsor?

Dude if you closer to Detroit why not go their?
Really the Molson Ampitheatre is awful when theres a huge event going on.

repcak 09-24-2006 09:32 AM

in what tuning are most songs of Opeth? e-standard?

Spoonful of Shame 09-24-2006 09:48 AM

yeah, and drop d tuning. On the new album they tune to open Dm tuning DADFAD.

I am learning the Drapery Falls on guitar currently. Great song.

metalhead_matt 09-24-2006 10:43 AM

**** i need to get my opeth tickets for their manchester gig. what songs do they usually play at gigs?

Shattered_Future 09-24-2006 11:12 AM

Full gig? Or Gigantour?

Gigantour setlist is on the other page.

If you're going to a gig, they'll probably play Ghost Of Perdition, Baying Of The Hounds, The Grand Conjuration, Closure, Deliverance, and a few others.

Tyr 09-24-2006 11:15 AM

But don't expect anything from Morningrise or Orchid.

metalhead_matt 09-24-2006 11:30 AM

coz of the length of em? i want em to play to bid you farewell lol

Tyr 09-24-2006 11:38 AM

I think that Mikael has said that he doesn't like those songs anymore.

Otherside 09-24-2006 11:40 AM

they played under a weeping moon when I saw em earlier this year

Tyr 09-24-2006 11:43 AM

I stand corrected.

I live in Chatham, 40 mins from Windsor. It'll be my first major concert event, so I had no idea what venue would be better prior to buying tickets.
I think that Mikael has said that he doesn't like those songs anymore.
It was more a matter of being tired of the whole twin guitar melodic death metal sound. If you sift through opeth.com, you can tell that he's definitely very proud of both records, he just didn't want to make an entire career out of that style of music.

Toaster 09-24-2006 07:43 PM

Seeing Opeth tomorrow.

:D

Eliminator 09-24-2006 08:16 PM

I like Opeth.

Discuss.

I'd love to see them play that. The long, ambient section is soooo incredibly dark and evil!!! \m/

Shattered_Future 09-24-2006 08:51 PM

That song was irritating as all hell. Feedback live = not good for long periods...

Although it was quite cool to see them play some old **** live.

Well if they did lots of feedback then I could understand it being bad, but if they played it straight from the record I would think that it would be one of the highlights of the night.

Do they play Master's Apprentices often, or what that something that they just did for the DVD?

Shattered_Future 09-24-2006 08:54 PM

As far as I know, they don't play it. Which is a crying shame. I'd rather have that over Deliverance...

Thor 09-24-2006 08:59 PM

I think I'd rather have them take out The Grand Conjuration, as Deliverance and Master's Apprentices are both in my top 10 favorite Opeth songs.

I also wish they'd start using To Bid You Farewell as their encore. I would cry my eyes out if they did that. No kidding.

Man I really loved that song. I thought it was one of their best in the set. The feedback was great, there was no pain because I wear earplugs.. :p

Shattered_Future 09-24-2006 09:01 PM

To Bid You Farewell would be awesome live.

Yknow, I actually thought TGC was one of the best songs they did live. It's a completely different experience. It's so much more freaking evil.

That's too bad, I love the old stuff. It seems like it would be a much more impressive live show.

matt4 09-24-2006 09:37 PM

I disagree 100%. They played Under the Weeping Moon the last time I saw them (New Orleans, '06). The long "feedback" section was actually about eleventy billion times cooler than the album version. The growls were so much more powerful than they are on the album, and the live tone always sounds amazing! I was totally stoked, too, as that was my favorite song off of Orchid at the time (and it was completely unexpected). I don't know what to expect this time around, but I will let you guys some time after the Atlanta gig October 5th! :thumb:

=-fukifiknow-= 09-24-2006 09:38 PM

To Bid You Farewell live.... man... that would be utterly incredible. wow

Eliminator 09-24-2006 09:39 PM

Feedback is pleasant, to me.

I want to see Opeth live someday.

Sleepy 09-24-2006 09:39 PM

The Moor live...I would basically shart myself.

Daven 09-24-2006 10:22 PM

Bleak live would be pretty awesome as well.

Toaster 09-24-2006 10:23 PM

Yeah I hope they play Bleak. And BWP.
