I guess you're right, I'm gonna have to learn it. I won't look as relaxed as you and won't have double bass but I'm mostly learning it for the hip-hop beat on the part "you claimed all this time".

/wishes he had a studio

One Groovin Clown 07-16-2005 02:17 PM

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 03:35 PM

Marshall, 3074326 did it, but some of it has to be redone. I'll IM him tonight to ask him when he'll be able to finish it, or he may pop in this thread, in which case, he'll probably see this and answer us. :D It is up on the Lachrysoundclick, which I shall copy/paste into this post so you can hear it.

Hope this is what you wanted. Hope this is what you had in mind, cause this is what you're getting.

Hmm....well the reflection by my head is monitor from my comp on the plexiglass shield in front of my drums... the blinking light next to my head is the reverb unit and the green bars near my shoulder are the track levels for the mics and guitars on the mackie hard-drive.

SonorKen 07-16-2005 05:44 PM
Great job on Eulogy, by the way. It's not that hard to play, but I watched the vid and you did a great job anyway.
Wrong
um... to play Eulogy= not that hard
Eulogy played correctly= very difficult
Correct

opiateofthemasses 07-16-2005 05:49 PM

euolgy

To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For your sins and your lies.
Goodbye...

in my mind this is saying that jesus never ascended because he never admitted to his sins and that maynard is sarcasticly basicly saying he doesnt care.. the line for your sins and your lies might refer to the lies of the church or the idea that religion is for the weak that need to follow something i might be wrong but this is what i get out of the line

coddingtown 07-16-2005 06:11 PM

Your opinion. I disagree. I think maynard is more mature than that.

SonorKen 07-16-2005 06:25 PM

^^^^ More mature than what? You do realize that Tool are not the most religious people in the world don't you? This is one of the reasons I became such a huge Tool fan. I was researching Metaphysical topics when I heard them writing music about them.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 06:29 PM

I just think that Eulogy isn't even about Jesus. It very well could be, and that was my first impression, but it could also be about L. Ron Hubbard. (See: Scientology) It could also be about a numerous other people.

Ken- Just in case you didn't know, your avatar got pwned during the server change, so you may want to reset it. It may not appear F'd to you, but it is. Just a heads up. :-D

denboy 07-16-2005 06:34 PM

I firmly believe that song is about Bill Hicks... And everytime I see Bill Hicks Anti-antismokers sketch, this is reaffirmed

mattmackenzie 07-16-2005 07:17 PM

my favorite tool song is schism

Lateralias 07-16-2005 07:42 PM

I don't think Eulogy is pertaining to Jesus really.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 08:25 PM

I'm thinking that he wrote it to someone as if he was portraying them as Jesus, whether it be in a sarcastic sense(which would make me lean towards L. Ron Hubbard) or in an actual holy figure. If the latter was true, then I'm really not sure who that would be.

Just my .02, take it or leave it.

denboy 07-16-2005 08:48 PM

Part of Bill Hicks show was to get his message out about how we are all one, and if everyone opened their third eye, they'd realise that there is no such thing as death and we'll all live forever bla bla.. or something like that... .. So I think that could fit in with your theory..

dUSK 07-16-2005 08:57 PM

Was anyone here interested in hearing Cog or The Lateralus Code? If you were let me know and I'll YSI you some. :)

I firmly agree with this. Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard have their name all over that song IMO. Reading about the two clearly confirms this.

IMO Jesus wouldn't make sense. Jesus did die for us (if that's what you believe), however Hubbard didn't, but claimed he would.

Edit:

Did you guys see the thread on TDN about the guy in Hastings? This guy says he went and pre-ordered the new Tool album and asked the guy when the date was, and the the guy said sometime around th 23rd.

Either this guy is playing a joke, or he accidently pre-ordered Lateralus on Vinyl.

What exactly do the Scientologists believe? I hear about them all the time but I have no idea what sets them apart.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 09:48 PM

I really don't know their exact beleifs, but I know Hubbard created this bogus religion that is aimed at the weak, insecure poeple looking for a place of solace. I know he exploits these people, and in turn takes their money, and is now rich, famous, and also a very sly piece of shit.

He's also dead.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 09:53 PM

It doesn't mean the religion has died with him.

Magicaltroll 07-16-2005 09:57 PM

Bill Hicks is great...
I got his Flying Saucer CD or something like that, and its funny.
I thought that the sample used in Third Eye (the first one) was Maynard though, because I heard somewhere he was a comedian before Tool. But I guess its Hicks.

I might be terribly wrong about the comedian thing though, but I could have swore that I heard it from this thread.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-16-2005 09:58 PM

He's just as dead as Dimebag.

**** L Ron Hubbard and
**** all his clones. :thumb:

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-16-2005 10:00 PM

I've never heard that about Maynard, but it may be true. I'm figuring out his life timeline, and between Westpoint and Tool, I don't see where he would have fit the comedian thing in. :p

To guy above me-That's from Ænema, but that does show Tool's hatred towards Hubbard and his clones.

IC36- Okay, what are you trying to say though?

I know it is, I just felt it was appropriate given the subject of discussion, heh.
