i havnt got S&M, might get it if it is cheap

mariojenkins 02-07-2005 11:58 AM

It's probably around 30 dollars. I got Cunning Stunts for around that. And I think I lost Disc II somehow...that makes me sad. Am I Evil? now permanently lost in the abyss that is my basement...

Metallica keeps their act pretty much standard when they play live. The stage explodes and breaks apart right before One, the stage goes pitch black and then you hear the opening intro of Nothing Else Matters, and a lone spot light shines on James. Not that it isn't awesome, because it's the best act I've ever seen. But it is somewhat predictable. I was very surprised though when I saw them last May and they did Dyer's Eve live. That was so f-ing awesome, and I've never seen it performed live or on any DVD releases either. I felt special, warm and tingly inside whilst headbanging lol

shadow_stalker 02-07-2005 12:05 PM

i didn't think cunning stunts was that good, it was ok but then i got live shit so...

mariojenkins 02-07-2005 12:12 PM

Lol uh yeah Live **** blows everything out of the water. I liked the little drum-off between James and Lars, then Kirk comes out and they do a little cover of Mistreated, pretty sweet. And the cover of Little Wing was awesome too. I liked the Seattle disc the best, from the ...And Justice tour. If I could go back in time to do one thing, I wouldn't prevent wars, or introduce modern technologies to help improve current times, I wouldn't even go back in time to meet Jesus, I would go to a Metallica concert from that tour. Hell yeah!

Ok yeah I would probably opt to meet Jesus above everything else lol, but you know...

Slither / Palm muting

Beginner question:

First time I have tried to work on Metallica and palm muting.
Can someone explain how exactly to get palm muting correct?

I am close but can't quite get the sound right with Slither.

There are threads that cover this in the begginer section of the guitar forum. Please take this there.

Are you from Winnipeg? Because when they came to Winnipeg they played Dyers Eve, and i know it's pretty rare for them to play it in concert...

Try the guitar forum for guitar related questions, but just lay your hand over the strings. You might have to move it back and forth to find a position where you get the correct sound.

ironsandman32 02-07-2005 05:30 PM

you might want to try as close as to the bridge as you can, depending on which kind of guitar you have. explorers and flying v's work the best (wonder why hetfield always used them?)

How well you can palm mute doesn't depend on the shape of the guitar.

When I went to see Metallica live it was almost annoying how many different guitars Kirk had. They were all pretty cool though. :)

tr00, shape plays no part in Palm muting. Having a bridge though helps guide you as to where you should rest your palm. You gotta admit though, Kirk's Mummy guitar is a beaut.

Yeah, that was one of my favorites. My favorite was probably his Ouija (sp) graphic one though. I was intent on buying one, but I didn't have the money. Now I chose a different guitar, and I'm glad I didn't have it at the time. Still a sweet guitar though.

You mean in my post, or on the actual guitar?

btoto 02-07-2005 05:51 PM

The guy said explorers work best for palm muting not because of shape. It's because it has no floyd rose and you can put your hand on the bridge in whatever position you want.

Mister_Che 02-07-2005 05:51 PM
You mean in my post, or on the actual guitar?
The guitar. Watch the segment on Kirks guitars on Cunning Stunts, the tech tells you about it.

That would make more sense. Since its a smooth transition from the strings to the top of most tremolos, your hand'll slide off and you cant really get a solid spot as to where you can ground your hand. With a bridge though, you can always count on the bridge to dig into your palm and assure you you're doing the mustin right. :thumb:

ironsandman32 02-07-2005 05:57 PM

i originally meant because of that special bridge they have, i should of said gibsons in general

Haha, I want to see Cunning Stunts, but I can't find it anywhere but the internet. I'll probably order it soon though.

oic. That makes much more sense.

btoto 02-07-2005 05:58 PM

Mister Che,

That's exactly what I was talking about. Couldn't explain better :thumb:

Yeah, sorry about the misunderstanding.

Mister_Che 02-07-2005 06:02 PM

*loves the bridge over a tremolo

JACKROXYOU 02-07-2005 06:03 PM

me loves explorers

The guitar I ordered has a tremelo, and the one I have right now has a bridge. I wonder which I will like. I definitly like the stuff you can do with a tremelo.

JACKROXYOU 02-07-2005 06:05 PM
Everyone... METALLICA.

Stop spamming about rep whoring. I'd never do that....... oh shi

Does anyone else think it's annoying when Kirk over-uses his wah?
sorry chosen
sorry chosen
No problem. :)

/me wanted postcount ++, and I wan't involved in the arguement.

What is everyone's favorite guitar that Kirk and/or James uses? (to give this a point)
