Actually, I think she is pretty good looking. Not that crazy about her vocals though.

And Kage... why must you always rain on our parade. :upset:

Kage 09-20-2006 06:54 PM

Eh, I think Scabbia puts her to shame ;). Her vocals are AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL though.

Darkness 09-20-2006 06:55 PM

I'm ganna agree, Scabbia is better looking. But theres that one picture floating around the web with them both together. :naughty: x2

Daven 09-20-2006 06:55 PM

Scabbia >>> Angela

Any day.

Shattered_Future 09-20-2006 07:02 PM

Well, yea, that's no contest, but I'd take Angela Gossow over quite a few girls.

/has Scabbia/Gossow calendar up on wall.

That is so metal. Is it HOT HOT HOT?

Stoo 09-20-2006 07:27 PM
Uh, sometimes bands don't use riffs at all. And sometimes, bands keep the riffs in key so they flow well together, or at least make the changes moving rather than jarring between keys, or to make the song feel like it's going somewhere, rather than just switching between riffs. Which is what BRI feels like, cool riffs though.

Personally I'd pick a well written song, this includes adding the vocals along with the instruments in seemlessly to produce something greater than the sum of it's parts. Preferably all the instruments doing different and interesting things, this includes the vocals.

This to me is great songwriting, especially if the song has tension, and then releases it and the song actually goes somewhere. A collection of riffs is rarely guaranteed to have this effect, and is not necesserally good songwriting, no matter how good the individual parts are.
Put it this way. If I could only listen to one Opeth song for the rest of my life, it would be Black Rose Immortal.

denboy 09-20-2006 07:31 PM

Of course, because it sounds like 10 songs put together :p

Stoo 09-20-2006 07:36 PM

Yer, so wtf's wrong with that?

A song is a song...

denboy 09-20-2006 07:43 PM

It was a joke...

I'd assume the Scabbia half is... the Gossow half is probably like COVER FACE FACE FACE!

I like her face... sometimes.

sonicst0rm 09-20-2006 08:44 PM
Well, that might be true if she wasn't UGLY UGLY UGLY and her "singing" wasn't a huge turnoff.

:p ;) :) :naughty:
truth

and that scabbia chick is hotter methinks
Hmmm. MAYH drum beats and Still Life drum beats seem so much... fuller.

Maybe it's the double time cymbal thingies.
For me, the biggest thing about Martin was HOW he played...it's a really hard thing to explain, but any 2 drummers can play the exact same thing and yet sound completely different.
I was thinking because they're both Swedish, but I like your logic.
Actually, Angela is German.

Also, I really don't get why people rag on her so much. She's actually one of my favorite harsh vocalists, and blows alot of male grunters out of the water.

Spoonful of Shame 09-20-2006 10:27 PM

yeah I love her vocals. \m/

Her vocals are alright, but really she's nothing special. She is better then some guys, but... for example Mikael, removes her from any sort of water invovled in heavy metal vocals. :)

pate 09-20-2006 11:12 PM

I don't really like her vocals, but I think she is quite good looking. Surprisingly, she looked evey better up close when I met here last summer. The only thing I don't like is her huge ass eyes.

C.O.A. 09-21-2006 12:05 AM

sup fellow opeth fans?

i am just letting you guys know that i have damnation and still life uploaded right now [in perfect quality btw] so let me know if you want these.

i also plan on getting all of the albums up soon.

gmoneyguy 09-21-2006 12:06 AM

I hate her vocals, but that just me. I've been digging Moonlapse Vertigo lately.

Yeah, but Mikael's a very different singer..err...whatever than Angela. Whereas Mikael is great at sounding evil and demonic, Angela I think is really great at just spitting out a blazing, hateful tirade. It works perfectly for melodic death metal, which seems to occupy that weird area between death growls and black screams. Only other vocalist that I've heard do that style well is Mikael Stanne.

Speaking of which....new DT album coming out soon, hopefully. Apparently, they're already playing some of the new songs live.

Aaron 09-21-2006 01:56 AM

I own Damnation, Blackwood Park and Ghost Reveries. I can't decide which to put on they are all so good!

Stoo 09-21-2006 06:33 AM

Blackwood Park lolol

Blackwater Park... And yes put that on.

the2stranger 09-21-2006 06:42 AM

Wood.
Sorry I lol'd at that. :upset:

BWP is my favorite out ogf the three you named though.

In latter albums I think the particular beat he did was something like:

Bass-Bass-Bassbass(16th notes I think)-snare-BassBass
Crash Crash_______________________Crash1-Crash2

Or something like that. I'm not good at notating drums anyway...:upset:

Agreed. I think she was best on Wages of Sin era stuff, as she sounds too manly on Doomsday Machine.
One of my friends has been given all 8 Opeth albums for free - I only have 3!
Fortunately, Ill probably be able to borrow them off him and give em all a listen.

jpshortstuff 09-21-2006 01:32 PM

listened to GR for the first time in a while yesterday. Harlequin(sp?) Forest rocks pretty hard as a track i will be listening to alot more of now (did that make sense??).

i will be playing in my Music Tech class tomorrow - we have to bring in a track that is interesting musically or musicTechnically.

Nah, not as bad sometimes. It does look like she's gonna stab you sometimes though, if you look at it right.

Darkness - it's not cold...it's HOT HOT HOT!

Maybe Necrophagist would me more suiting.

Or The leper affinity, for that matter.
