Some people find it stupid to get a Best of, because if they got into a the chosen band, they would have wasted money. Unless you consider it a sample, but then you could have just downloaded it or sampled a song for free. I doubt you would understand, the commitment is obviously not shown through you, being that you listed all hit songs off of their new compilation (Though you may not have it), and you titled one of their known songs incorrectly.
I'm that big of a fan of them..I have a large CD collection though and that isn't a gem..and yeah I' reading Uncle Tom's Cabin for History so yeah..dunno that was weird hah.

And putting me down for listing their hit songs...keyword HIT songs they are hits ...I could've named some more that I enjoy but I like those the most. I'm in no way shape or form a dead head, so calm down.

Hard rock (hard rock only!) album suggestions please.

I'm in a narrowminded mood
I don't know. Do you have Sabbath's stuff?
I don't know. Do you have Sabbath's stuff?
Paranoid and their s/t are great if you don't already have them.

Badmoon 11-10-2004 06:10 PM
I dont see anything wrong with Best of's. If you want to get into a certain band, I recommend them to a first timer. And if you get into that band and buy their actual records thats fine too. I mean, Retrospective and Skeletons in the Closet are both greatest hits, but great albums, and perfect for even the most devoted fan.
Well, wanting to get into a band plays a large role. And actually "Skeletons" is a bad compilation. It contains regular hits, and then throws in a few that weren't on any Grateful Dead album, nor even known to be good recordings, but good live ones. "Mexacali Blues", and "One more Saturday Night" were off of Bob Weir's Ace (even though The Grateful Dead played on each track.), "Rosemary" is hardly two minutes long, let alone not even a Dead favorite. They even claimed they didn't pick the songs on the album.

jpj 11-10-2004 06:12 PM

I always see Dick's Picks Dead CD's. Who the hell is Dick?

thickasabrick 11-10-2004 06:13 PM

hey badmoon is that david grisman you are always talking about still alive?

i've seen seen/heard his name like ten times in the past few days and now i am interested.

Broken Arrow 11-10-2004 06:13 PM

Regarding Sabbath JPJ's picks are the way to go also Master of Reality but I would go with s/t:)

Well, your opinion on the matter helps nothing. If I followed your opinion, I'd have 12 (not 13) more Grateful Dead albums and be about $70 shorter than I could have been. And I ouldn't have any of the extra tracks, being that the ones included haven't been part of the new remastered series, and supposebly will not.

In your review you claimed it was your favorite Grateful Dead compilation. But then again, it looked like your first review so I won't be too mean :p
I always see Dick's Picks Dead CD's. Who the hell is Dick?
Dick runs The Grateful Dead's live album archive. He picks the concerts they put out.

And yes David Grisman is still alive.

I've also only had one compilation, let alone one Grateful Dead album.

BludgeonySteve 11-10-2004 06:18 PM

Well_Respected_Man 11-10-2004 06:44 PM

Does anyone here dig the Byrds? The Notorious Byrd Brothers has been in my CD player constatntly it's a really good record.

Badmoon 11-10-2004 06:46 PM

Yes

Clarence White revolutionized Country and Bluegrass lead guitar playing, which I am forever grateful for.

Well_Respected_Man 11-10-2004 06:48 PM

Cool, I'm not to keen on their country side at the moment but it's been slowley growing on me. I like their psychadelic stuff so much more.
Why The Byrds aren't on the site are they?
No they're not :( I'd still like to know.

Badmoon 11-10-2004 06:57 PM

The Grateful Dead
------------------------
The Grateful Dead
Anthem of the Sun
Aoxomoxoa
Live Dead

I only have a two disc mix my friend gave me of The Byrds.

Well_Respected_Man 11-10-2004 07:02 PM

Well I started listening to "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" based on comparissions to Olivia Tremor Control which is a really out there band (one of my all time favorite bands) and some similaries are defintley there especially in the phasings and studio effects. I don't know much about the Byrds though to make comparisions to their other stuff.

Broken Arrow 11-10-2004 07:05 PM

Badmoon do you know who Joni Mitchell is?
Badmoon do you know who Joni Mitchell is?
Obviosly a man of his knowledge does :)

On a related topic, I recently went to this show: http://www.calgarysun.com/perl-bin/niveau2.cgi?s=arts&p=89632.html&a=1

It's like a Joni Mitchell tribute with a live band and 3 singers and everything.

2 hours of pure musical orgasm it was
