I dunno, they just cut it down to fit more on the cd, I guess. The original sounds so much better though.
|
I think they edited out most of the "whales in labor" part, but I'm not sure. I've never heard the edited version.
|
Ummm... Mike, it is cleary Whales Having Sex, not Whales In Labour. Foolio.

You're lucky I can't ban you and your flashy avatar.
Careful With That Axe, Eugene has a weird effect on me when I listen to it when I'm really stoned. Espically this live bootleg version I have. Roger singing the lyrics are almost as frightening as his scream. I must make sure never to listen to that song on shrooms. That has bad trip written all over it.
Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast has a similar effect, but also in a cheery kind of way. It's still an amazing song but arguably drawn-out for way too long. Anyway, I heard Gilmour's two concerts in Toronto sold out in like, 90 seconds. If that's not a record, it's damned close. I heard Gilmour's recent tour is amazing, though. I'd go, but I don't think it would be the same without Waters. Note: I heard the English government or something like that offered the members of Floyd 200 million pounds to get back together and they refused. Can someone verify/correct me on this? It happened right around when Live 8 happened. |

They definitely were offered that by someone, and as big as the Floyd are, I would not be one bit surprised if it was the English government, even Her Majesty herself. |

His recent tour is VERY amazing. To be honest I didn't miss Waters at all on this tour. I mean yeah it would would have been great if he were there, but I still didn't miss him. |
It wouldn't be the English government, but most likely a number of producers got together to do so.
|
Yeah when I heard they turned down that deal that crushed every hope I had of them getting back together. Though Waters said that if there was ever another nobel charity event he would love to get back together to do a preformance of Dark Side of the Moon for a night. I have my fingers crossed for that.

Record Companies.

I'd rather they did some older songs as well.
I'd rather they did some older songs as well.
Yeah I would too but I want to see them play together again so bad that if they got up there and played happy birthday then left I would cheer. |
I've learned to not respect anything Waters says after this.
I don't know, I find that ego and childishness really turns me off towards people. As decent as Kanye West's music is, I would rather dunk my head in a deep fryer than have a conversation with him. EDIT: I should mention that that article pisses me off because he says all that "warm and fuzzy" stuff about his bandmates at one point and burns them in the next, as well as any other time he talks about them. I wish he'd just make up his mind about how he feels, God. |
I they got up together and whistled Happy Birthday I'd cheer. :p
The only wrong thing that Roger said was at the end, in regards to Floyd being a brand name. :-/ Other than that, the man has an ego, yes, but it's a healthy ego. |
I don't know if you guys have seen it, but this month's Guitar World features David Gilmour. In the interview, he talks about the Live 8 show, and how he wasn't even going to do it at first. He also talks about when He and Roger were approached by people to do a Pink Floyd world tour. Roger said he would do it if Dave would, but David Gilmour just wasn't interested. He just wants to move on with his life, both mentally, and musically.
Good news is though, that everything (as far as we know) is patched up between him and Roger though. |

That interview isn't bad but I've read some that have made me lose a lot of respect for him. I think his ego has deflated over time and may not be as big now though. I still respect him as a song writer too. |
That interview was done shortly after Live8 when emotions were still running high. If you read interviews later, and especially the one from Guitar World, then you'll see a complete different tone. Sorry I don't have any links, but it's 130AM and im dead tired.

Interesting name. You like the story of Hannibal?
And yeah, I've seen so many different attitudes in the various interviews with Gilmour and Waters over the years. |
If you're in a band like Pink Floyd, you're bound to have a huge ego. It's just a question of whether or not you hide it.
That said, I try to not pass too much judgment, considering I have never met them. I'm sure David and Roger both would be nice to have a conversation with. |
I'd love to have a proper conversation with Syd Barrett.

I guess this is the right place to ask.
Is the new David Gilmour album as great as I am hearing. Is it similar to PF? |
Yea it's pretty good. I find it most similiar to The Division Bell.
|
I wasn't too crazy about The Division Bell, but I guess I'll pick it up anyway.

If I had to compare it to any Pink Floyd album that would probally be it, but I don't think it sounds too much like it, I don't reall think it sounds like Pink Floyd in general aside from the title track. One of my favorite things about the album is it sounds like a David Gilmour album, not a Pink Floyd album. |
As long as it's good, I don't care if it sounds like a "Gilmour album" or a "Pink Floyd album." I plan to buy it soon.
|
The Devision Bell is great ... Musicaly one of the best ... Coming Back To Life is 2nd best PF guitar intro :) (SOYCD being best PF guitar intro)

My feelings exactly. I don't care if DB, AMLOR or TFC aren't "true Floyd albums", I love them anyway. |

I disupute, Wish You Were Here is pretty damn awesome. |
Goodbye Blue Sky is brilliant also.

Yer.
I have the winner: Have a Cigar! |
Gotta love the funkicity.

I think my favourite Floyd solo is the one in Fat Old Sun. I remember hearing it for the first time, the song was very slow with just a few strums on the guitar, peaceful lyrics, soft drumming. Then suddenly he goes into this outrageous solo and to be fair it made me jump out of my skin. It was actually one of the only solo's I've heard which gave me goosebumps (Along with Comfortably Numb and the sax solo from Us and Them :thumb: ).
|
I've always loved the intro to Pigs, though Goodbye Blue Sky is great too.
"Look mommy, there's an airplane up in the sky." |

"Look mommy, there's an airplane up in the sky."
I love that keybord intro to Pigs (unless your taking about pigs part 1&2, whitch as the name implys I think are awsome as well). I think it might be my favorite part of the song. I learned it on my guitar I love playing it. Fat Old Sun may be Pink Floyd's most underrated song. I have a great live 15 min version of it that blows me out of my mind everytime I hear it. |
Yeah, I was talking about Pigs(3 Different Ones). The intro is so dark.
Fat Old Sun is cool. |
I like the version of Fat Old Sun from the acoustic concert.
