My best friend and another friend of mine are really the only ones I really care about.

At my school, there are generally 2 kinds of people (and yes there are exceptions, I am one :D): Drunks and Stoners. A lot fo the girls are... well... :naughty: Go figure...
I can relate.

My school has a few type of people:

The jocks/preps. They're generally friendly but I can't relate to them in any way which is why I stray away from them.

The punks/goths/emo's/whatever you get it. I have like 2 punker friends, I hate goths and emo's.

The musicians. I fall into this category because all of the musicians in my school (I mean the jazzy type people) dress GQ, like myself. These are the ones I love. They're laid back; lax. Very friendly, very helpful, whether you need homework help or help with your bass.

The druggys. Of course there are druggys in ever category, but you can normally pick them out.

The gangsters/wiggars/rappers. I don't hang with any of these people because we have nothing to relate to. Otherwise we're on friendly terms; a mutual air of respect.

I think that pretty much sums it up.
You know, up until LightRaven said you had to play Double Bass if you wanted to play bass at a Music School, I sort of wanted to go to Berklee :p
Didn't Myung and the core members of Dream Theater go to Berklee? I wasn't aware that Myung played double bass.

EDIT: Not that I want to go to music school because it's just a hobby for me, but that's really stupid that you have to play double bass as opposed to electric. Isn't bass guitar an instrument?

Ruhtra 07-29-2004 11:58 PM

At my school we do have the preps, goths, punks, ect. but generally, the school as a whole is either drunk, stoned or both.

Foxfire 07-29-2004 11:59 PM

See, where I want to go..I've been there before and I've seen the environment. I've heard stories from a few of my friends who go there as well. According to them, it's like:

First and foremost, EVERYONE is a nerd (the school I want to go to is the top school in Illinois). Therefore, the jocks are still nerds and thus they're still nerds but...not? The sports teams like to go out and drink and stuff, and be friendly, and they're still really friendly. There are people who aren't jocks but aren't nerds...most people there fall into this category.

As far as I know, preps do not exist there, simply because they look down upon MTV there, and, as such, you wouldn't survive there. I have NEVER heard of a bully there before. Some of the kids there are druggys, but it's easy to pick them out. EVERYONE there plays an instrument of some sort, Acoustic Guitar being the main one.

It's supposed to be like THE perfect high school environment and, admittedly, I can't wait :p

I myself have ruled out Music from my college options because of the Double Bass thing. I'll have enough financial burden with tuition and all that other stuff, the last thing I need is something else that will drain my money even faster. I'm down to a choice between psychology and architecture.

Well the thing is that they want you to play Jazz or Classical. These are the the two most difficult forms of music to write in, and they want you to play "traditional" Jazz which means a double...and you can't bow an electric bass.

They say that's why Ryan from MudVayne is so good...he's a Jazz bassist playing in a metal band.

I, personally, want to go Biomedical Engineering. Urbana-Champange is supposed to be awesome for it, and since it's a state school, the tuition is around 7,000$ :D

JamminOnMyGstring 07-30-2004 12:04 AM

****... planning out your future quite early.. good luck with that, but you'll probably change your mind.. everyone does

Foxfire 07-30-2004 12:05 AM

True, but science-ish stuff is in the blood...I love Physics to death, and find Biomed type stuff interesting.

slappindabass 07-30-2004 12:08 AM

I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do after highschool. College, but what do I major in?

Ruhtra 07-30-2004 12:08 AM
****... planning out your future quite early.. good luck with that, but you'll probably change your mind.. everyone does
Yeah, when I was 10, I wanted to be a weatherman. Boy has that changed.

JamminOnMyGstring 07-30-2004 12:09 AM

yeah... I wanted to be an architectural engineer, but now i'm going into business..

*shrugs shoulders*

slappindabass 07-30-2004 12:11 AM

When I was 5 I used to be fascinated by police cars. Then I started playing bass and wanted to be in a band, but I got to jamming almost everyday and it got boring and I got tired of it so that's out of the question, maybe until I come up with my own material. Otherwise, a career in music is not easy because it's not easy to get noticed. So I have absolutley no clue about the future.

Ruhtra 07-30-2004 12:11 AM

Architecture has interested me for years. It's always been an option. Psychology is something that I gradually have become very interested in.

JoeDaddio 07-30-2004 12:11 AM

Hello everyone. I'm at work, but I feel good tonight. Wish I had some gin.

On weekends I play funk bass for porn films.

By the way how old is everyone? I'm 15, and I've picked up that FoxFire is 13.

I find psychology interesting as well, and honestly, a really basic level of psychology is really easy to use, even at my age.

Ruhtra 07-30-2004 12:14 AM

I'd LOVE to see if I could double Major (Biomed + Music), that'd be sososososososo cool.

Would be interesting to find a college that had a good music program while still maintaining a good science program.

Crapdragoon 07-30-2004 12:17 AM
