Arsis are an amazing band.

I've got their Diamond For Disease EP and it is some quality melo-death

LegionsofMarduk 07-08-2007 06:17 AM

I forgot to plug in my mp3 player last night so this morning after realizing that the battery was dead, I grabbed my old tape walkman and a bunch of tapes. So now I'm sitting at my desk (working on a sunday blows) listening to a bunch of old stuff. Some death metal, some not so much. The tape that's currently playing definately is though.

NP: Dark Minion - Racial Atrocities
hahah don't worry mate. I am the opposite. I spend no time improving my technic on Electric guitar and learning songs and just jam and write stuff. I can't play half the stuff I have written lol! Its too hard!
Yeah same for me, except I can play everything I've written :p. There's been a few things I've wrote that I had to practice a bunch of times to get it right though. I stopped working on technique ages ago. I can play well enough; I'd rather make some material.

Berner 07-08-2007 11:48 AM

Ok so right now I'm listening to some Trauma and I noticed something funny. On the song Blade Under Your Throat (from Imperfect Like a God) there is this weird backwards voice at the beginning. I've always thought that it was familiar but I never really gave it much thought. This morning I decided to reverse that section in Cool Edit and I finally realized why I know that voice. It's a clip of the android chick from the Terran Campaign in Starcraft, the one who explains all the missions during the briefings. I think I just realized I love this band even more than I did before.

VomitStainedCretin 07-08-2007 11:53 AM

I tend to write quite a lot of riffs but don't really string them together. Mostly generic widdling, chugging and poorly executed harmonics tbh.

RetiredAt21 07-08-2007 01:15 PM

That's nerdy to the max.

TojesDolan 07-08-2007 01:20 PM

Yeah Berner, how dare you post anything mildly interesting or intellectual in the Brutal Death Metal Discussion Thread!

RetiredAt21 07-08-2007 01:21 PM

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, I just said it was nerdy.

TojesDolan 07-08-2007 01:24 PM

It's insulting that you bring nerdy conversation to this extremely serious thread, in that case!

Expect a ban for not taking Death Metal seriously!

There Is No Business To Be Done On A Dead Planet is the best song on that album.
cool!
thanks for your advices!

i realized that if i have something in my head, i can pretty good write it down on guitar, if i take the time to do it.

i think i just need to jam around more with myself, try out things and mess around more. most of the time i just practise my technique and songs... i hardly write own material. i should change this.
i do exactly the same thing as you, but i have also been working on writing originals, however at the same time im trying not to force it and to take in as many ideas from as many different bands as i can, i try not to limit too strictly what i listen to. im working on michael angelo batio stuff now and it is challenging to say the least but i bought a boss micro br to record and a new pickup for my guitar in an attempt to craft my own songs/find my own sound.

Well...yeah I do know that.

Invicta_Veritas 07-08-2007 11:27 PM

Job for a Cowboy really isn't all that great.

I just got Genesis in the mail and listened to it today. I mean, it's good stuff, but kinda boring...

C.O.A. 07-08-2007 11:36 PM

anybody heard of anata?

i've been diggin them lately.

pate 07-08-2007 11:41 PM

Anata is pretty good. The Conductor's Departure and Under A Stone With No Inscription are good albums.

Bazarov 07-08-2007 11:43 PM

Nope. I'll check them out tomorrow if I remember.

Anyways, I noticed I had Deicide's Stench of Redemption. Damn, some of those solos really annoyed me, I can't recall which song, but it was totally power metal style and I was expecting Glen to burst out some high falsetto screams.

Tyler 07-08-2007 11:45 PM

falsetto for satan.

Which songs? I do nothing but adore that album, and the solos are sooo much better without the Hoffmans playing them.

Bazarov 07-08-2007 11:47 PM

I think it was Homage For Satan.

I'm not fond of this album, it's mainly the vocals that are annoying me. It's probably just because I totally wasn't expecting Glen to sound like that.

Invicta_Veritas 07-08-2007 11:48 PM

He had issues delivering on the last two records he's done--that one and Vital Remains' new one. I guess he's going through some family shit or something and it's really taking a toll on his performance.

Still, I don't see a huge difference.

C.O.A. 07-08-2007 11:50 PM

i have SOR but i haven't really listened to it. i'm too lazy to go get it right now so which deicide albums should i download?
