What does the 21" AAX Stage Ride sound like? I found for real cheap and I am considering buying it.
Fairly washy, with a nice soft ping. BEST CRASH EVER |
i want a zildjian china with a medium tone. i want it to be trashy sounding, but not too loud which would overpower my other cymbals. does something like the a custom swish or k custom dark sound good?
|
a swish should work , or maybe a pang.
|
also what size would give me a medium tone
|
i dont know that much.
|
haha alright
|
I'm looking for a crash. Now, the largest I have is 16 inches. I wanted to get a bigger one, 17 18, or 19 inches. I'm looking for something that will cut through heavy metal type music, but is still musical. I don't want it to ring for a while. I'm thinking Vaults or A Custom's. Here's my curent cymbal lineup if that helps ya'll out.
Zildjian 12" K Splash 14" A Quickbeat Hi-Hats 14" A Paperthin Crash 15" A Custom Crash 16" A Paperthin Crash 16" K Custom Dark Crash 22" A Ping Ride (Thinking of replacing with A Custom 20" or 22") Paiste 10" Alpha Splash (Will replace soon) 14" Aplha Hi-Hats (Secondary hats, will replace once I get a remote cable stand) Edit: Brand doesn't matter. Thanks, ya'll. |
18inch A custom, 19inch A custom, 18inch AAXplosion,^^^
|
18" AAX Stage for sure.
|
18" AAX Stage for sure.
Regular A Custom? Fast Crash? Projection? I'm assuming you mean regular, I just want to make sure. |
Regular A Custom? Fast Crash? Projection? I'm assuming you mean regular, I just want to make sure.
regular i meant . also i hear the projections are good to try them out. never heard a projection though. |
I kinda regret buying my 18" Projection because I didn't notice the bell size right away. I originally had the 17" version, has a much lower, flatter bell, which to me gives it more response, a broader presence and less high end shrill. I went to buy a larger counterpart for it one day, didn't try it out as extensively at the store as I should have, and now when you compare bell size, the 18" has a significantly larger bell. Thus giving it those terribly high pitch shrills that I am not as fond of, as the smooth brilliance of the 17".
Don't get me wrong, the Projection series is great, you want power from A Customs, I'd go with these over the A Custom Mediums anyday, because frankly I don't think I could handle and more out of this 18", and the Mediums are even more of a heavyweight. Now I don't consider myself a light hitting by any means, but it takes a good wackin' to get the main sound outta the 18" too. That's my advice for the day. |
does anybody know what kind of cymbals the drummer of metallica plays? i think they are much to expensive for me so could anybody list some altenatives betwenn 300 an 500 dollar with the same sound?
|
^^ Lars uses Zildjian Z customs, and I think for 500 dollars you can get the hats, and 2 crashes (he doesn't have a ride in his setup)
|
not anymore anyway...the A Zildjians are cheaper arent they? they'd be a MUCH better choice than the Z Customs.

I'm still looking at rides, the ones that caught my ear at the store were HHX Power Ride and a Paiste Mark I dark energy ride (kinda like this one, it's black colored, http://www.musicorp.com/images/products/SI20DER_sm.jpg )
What I liked on these rides so much were mostly the bells. but then when I'd play around on the rest of the cymbal, it just wasn't the sound I wanted. There was this signature 20" dark crisp ride, which had an awesome bell + bow sound, but the 399$ price tag was a turn off. If anyone could direct me in the way of a ride that would have a nice loud/powerful/dark sounding bell but with a crispy/tight (maybe even pingy?) sounding bow and not too much wash buildup that'd be awesome. The best sounding on the sabian sound check I found was HH leopard ride but the store doesn't have it. and I doubt they'd order it for me just to try it. I'm open to any brands/models. I was thinking maybe some k /k custom ? |
Try the K custom ride and the K heavy ride, they shouldn't have much ring, they are medium heavy and heavy weighted cymbals, and will have that nice dark tone that you (and me) are looking for. The price will probably be rather step as well, $650 AUS for the K custom ride, but that thing is worth every cent.
I just bought a pair of 14" New Beat high hats, so i'm fairly broke agian, but for my next upgrade i'm thinking about a new china. Looking for something trashy, fairly fast (not like my B8 chian which rings for ages) and bright. I was thinking alogn hte lines of an 18" A china high, 18" Oriental china trash and just for fun a K/K Custom 17" dark china. If anyone else can give me some suggestions feel free to comment (maybe something from the Sabian line?) |
the K Heavy Would be a good one to look into....perhaps its Hand Hammered Counterpart....and maybe even the HH Rock ride?
|
Check out the AAX China's DruMMeR_BoY14.
|
I am looking for good zildjing hi-hats 100-250 CND For rock and other music is the 13" A MASTERSOUND HIHATS good?
|
check the New beats first.

Today i am going to pick me up either another crash or china. havent decided yet. Right now i have a 18 A Custom, and a 16 A custom Fast. I picked up a 10" a custom splash yesterday as well as new heads for everything. I had a china back in the day and never really used it so i am leaning towards a 17 A Custom or 17 A. What do you guys think about getting another crash or should i get a China, if so What do you guys Recommend. that would go with what i currently have. Thanks
The Cymbals i have now are 18 A custom 16 A Custom Fast 10 A custom Splash 21 A Sweet Ride 14" New Beats. |
i need a new ride and new hats. right now i have those in b8s, with an 18 aax crash and a 17 aa metal x crash. thats the general sound im looking for. for hats, i want a good crisp chick when closed, and some controlled (don't really know the word to describe) wash. for the ride, i want kind of like a 60 ping/40 wash, or maybe 70/30. mostly ping with a bit of wash. what should i look for?
edit : i generally like the samples i hear of 13" hats, but i dont know if thats how they actually sound, because my cymbals sound nothing like the samples on those websites too. |
hehe go for the 24 in giant beats the ping is always there with the most beautiful wash but theyre kinda warm so theres none of that high pitched ping.
|
After being a Zildjian A Custom whore for the past few years I finally sampled the Paiste Signature Cymbals. I now want to replace my current setup with Paistes (love at first listen).
I'll be going to a music shop to listen to a lot of them, but I was wondering if you guys can help me go in there with a little bit of a background. I am interested in the signiture series to replace: (All A Customs) 18" Fast Crash 16" Projection Crash 12" Splash 14" Mastersound Hi-hats 20" Ping Ride 18" China I would like to add one other crash when I upgrade. Any suggestions to try out or a list would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance. PS: Once again I have no background on Paiste due to my ignorance. :( |
after going to the paiste cymbal expo, i have decided to add a paiste 17 fast crash to my paiste 18 in full and fast crashes. They would make an excellent group of cymbals. The fast and full crashes i have now make a great pair. The full is higher pitched while that fast has a mellower lower pitch. My favorite is the fast. Definetly check ouy the 14 in paiste sig soundedges they are incredible hats. The giant beats are pretty nice also they have a smooth mellow sound so check those out. The chinas havent really impressed me a sig dry crisp ride would be nice.i really loved the sig mk1 splashes.
so the list would be 18in fast 18in full 17in fast(if you want to get more crashes) 14in soundedges 20 dry crisp 10 or 12 mk 1 splash |
Thanks poppinfresh! I'll definitely check those out.

Hats try A Quick Beats or A New Beats, IMO hte quickbeats are more crisper than then New Beats but the New Beats have more of the controled wash you want. My knowledge of Sabian is fairly limited, but perhaps try XCelerator hats, wouldn't a clue on rides lol. One for Bobby. |

AAX Stage hats, and try the Medium hevy and Heavy rides....AA, Hand Hammered...your call really...AA for bright. |
