I like Yellow Submarine the best personally

led zeppelin139 01-18-2005 10:46 PM

man the beattles rock, they have real tallent like in the song blackbird (yes i learned how to play it finally) i just dont think that when people flip on distortion and start using power cords 24-7 it should be called good, but dont get me wrong, my favorite bands include led zeppelin, black sabbith, ac/dc metallic, ext plus the beattles, the police, and lots of other good bands.

Sgt._Joker 01-19-2005 01:36 AM

yer i think we should go back to our roots, The Beatles, the 60's.
grunge and punk rock is nothing to be proud of and is "Musak to my ears", we need more bands like Oasis, who r bringing back the 60's raw rock, its fantastic, btw if u wanna talk oasis go to my new Oasis thread

DeusExMachina 01-19-2005 10:10 AM

Hey now people, lets not judge. All music has its merits. And, its not like The Beatles didn't do the grungy power chord thing themselves. Helter Skelter, anyone? It's all good stuff, lets have this be a friendly pro-Beatles thread, not an anti-New music thread.

Sgt._Joker 01-19-2005 07:12 PM

hah, i'm sorry about the anti new music thing, it just pisses me off how bands like the beatles, or stones, or the who, or like eric clapton tend to b out numbered by power cord stumming idiotic punk bands,

Sure the beatles did a few songs consisting of power cords, but power chords are all bands today do (mostly :( ) u get the occasional gem like oasis, but bands like them get out numbered by bands like blink 182

any back to the beatles,

What sort of things are on the Beatles Anthology dvd, i am heavily considering buying it but i dont want any media trash that blows everythign out of preportion... are there interviews of the beatles? are they good interviews? (ones without some idiot from the media putting words into paul mccartney;s mouth or something)

SOS420 01-19-2005 09:53 PM

i like blink 182, infact they remind me of early beatle stuff, easy to listen to, up beat, usally about girls or broken heart stuff.....
yeh they are similar just with a different sound

Sgt._Joker 01-19-2005 11:20 PM

mmmm.

whats on the beatles anthology dvd box set?

A helluva different sound if I might add.

I see no similarities myself. Everybody writes stuff about girls and love and stuff (except maybe Tull)

Walrus Gumboot 01-20-2005 12:09 PM

I think eras of songs with lyrics not written about teeny-bob love stuff signify the advancement of music. The more complicated the lyrics, the better the rock music is. (IN GENERAL.) We have come full circle now, since the majority of songs on the charts today are written about the same stuff as 50's/early 60's (early Beatles even). Somewhat shallow.

Everything you'd ever need to know about the Beatles. That's about it.

Six Foot Revolver 01-20-2005 12:57 PM

My step-dads got that so I will have to watch it sometime

Woodstock 01-20-2005 01:28 PM

Even if you're not a fan of the Beatles, you'll love it.

DeusExMachina 01-20-2005 01:54 PM

I should get the DVD. I've heard so many good things about it.

SOS420 01-20-2005 06:38 PM

AC/DC doesnt write about girls, or love, unless they are fuc.king the girl or she has an STD or something like that

Seafroggys 01-20-2005 07:56 PM
AC/DC doesnt write about girls, or love, unless they are fuc.king the girl or she has an STD or something like that
Checking my Back in Black album.....

What do you do for money honey?
You shook me all night long?
Let me put my love into you?

And would you honestly think bands would write about girls without even one thought of screwing them? I highly doubt it.

Anyway, back onto the Beatles......

I didn't really care for Anthology 1.. (its the only thing I own).....well, Free as a Bird is a kick *** song, and that's about it.

BludgeonySteve 01-20-2005 09:00 PM

Ac/dc sure as hell does write about girls. Not love though.

Woodstock 01-20-2005 09:01 PM

Free Bird is actually a very good song. Very relaxing.

BludgeonySteve 01-20-2005 11:01 PM

Exept for the solo. Maybe if it lasted a minute the song would be better.

clown_phobia 01-20-2005 11:24 PM
Exept for the solo. Maybe if it lasted a minute the song would be better.
how long does it last for?

Woodstock 01-21-2005 08:57 AM

You should never expect a long solo from a Beatles song.

DeusExMachina 01-21-2005 11:42 AM

Wait.. I'm confused. Are we talking about Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, or Free as a Bird by the Beatles?

Woodstock 01-21-2005 11:47 AM

I'm talking about the Beatles song.

Walrus Gumboot 01-21-2005 01:03 PM
You should never expect a long solo from a Beatles song.
One of my favorite solos is maybe 3 seconds long, near the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever"
It sounds like it has great potential, and then it ends before you can think about it

John Lennon is massivly overrated and is viewed to much like a god or a messiah when he was an abusive father and ignored his first son. I dont think he was a particulary nice person all the time as some people claim.
Oh and Paul Mccartney is far more musical than George Harrison, i mean 47 Instruments and i bet all of them are variations of the guitar....
I can play 5 instruments if you say that, i can play pedal guitar, steel guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar etc

Prince is a real underrated musician now he actually can play 40 something different instruments, much like the late Brian Jones.

I fail to see how that makes him overrated. His songs were brilliant and he's one the best writers i've ever seen.

You probably couldn't name 47 variations of guitar though. He must have played different instruments, and strange variations of guitar that are still hard.

Badmoon 01-21-2005 02:26 PM
I fail to see how that makes him overrated. His songs were brilliant and he's one the best writers i've ever seen.
Well, people look at him as a symbol of peace and as a good person. So, if those rumors are true, then he is not a good person, and all of his songs relating to peace are kind of bullshit.
I can play 5 instruments if you say that, i can play pedal guitar, steel guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar etc
Out of that, you can play three instruments. And it is very interesting how you find 5 comparable to 47. Plus, I doubt you play "Pedal Guitar", being that is actually called a Pedal Steel Guitar.

Walrus Gumboot 01-21-2005 04:17 PM

He was quite unstable, and self-critical, he never claimed ot be a messiah, thats what people made him out to be. He didn't even seem too fond of himself, and didn't exactly take himself seriously or encourage others to do so (See I am the Walrus or Glass Onion) It was probably his unstability that made him such a genius if anything did

*Fun fact: I read somewhere that The Beatles wanted to do "The Lord of the Rings" and John wanted to be Gollum- might give you an idea

PS: Isn't it funny how we get so upset when some random (usually with awful typing skills) comes in here and says something stupid? We should really try to ignore them next time.

Woodstock 01-21-2005 04:20 PM

I like John Lennon because he was a very eccentric person. I respect him for his personality and funny but logical ideas.

oic. In that way. Not his music of course.
