You have a following now

I dont know about you, but I read somewhere that Octavarium is supposed to be heavier than ToT. If thats the case, I'm friggin stoked to hear it. I love all DT, but nothing tops their heavy stuff.
god i hope thats true!

DT music is only surpased by heavy DT music.

Whered you read that anyway?

Chu 05-01-2005 12:01 PM
Never a band to do things by halves, Dream Theater here delivers a two-disc extravaganza with a title track that clocks in at a prog-tastic 42 minutes.
Is this true? :o
That's insane!

Anyway, I've heard many people rave about The Glass Prison, so I'm thinking of getting this album, I checked Amazon, which is where I got this quote.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UEAR/ref=pd_sim_music_3/103-1739267-7659004?v=glance&s=music

My only problem would be, I don't think I could listen to a 14 minute song.
So is this album worth it?

It seems a pretty long album.

vashts80 05-01-2005 02:44 PM

The second disc of Six Degrees is split into 8 songs, even though it's based around one concept. The songs, afaik, are NOT directly related to each other though.

The Glass Prison is godly.

MAthiAS 05-01-2005 02:54 PM

Its worth it for The Glass Prison, Blind Faith, and Misunderstood alone.

So thye second disc is 42 minutes, not the one song?
That's alright I guess.

Thanks guys :)

vashts80 05-01-2005 05:15 PM

I just listened to the Budokan version of ItNoG and then the ToT version. Budokan > ToT. The improv solo at the end after the "Unyielding crusade/Divine revelation/Does following faith/Lead us to violence?" is amazing. I love the tapping part

comm 05-01-2005 07:19 PM

I like Octavarium best.

You don't have it.

Huber 05-01-2005 07:25 PM
You don't have it.
People labeled JLB's solo stuff as Octavarium?

Pigs3differentones 05-01-2005 07:43 PM

Yes.

I heard that they were returning to their more proggy roots (YEH!). Dream Theater aren't a metal band; they're prog-metal (The emphasis is in the prog).

horseypie 05-03-2005 03:41 AM

i just want more dream theater

The 2nd disc of 6DOIT is only one song, split into 8 parts.

Ah Six Degrees. One of the my fav albums of all time (especially CD2). It's got everything.

juggalotricksta 05-03-2005 02:31 PM

I agree on 6doit being one of their better works. Its definitely one of the most diverse.
My favorite DT cd is always changing though. It mostly depends on which album I have in the player at the time. Right now I cant put down SFaM.

Also NEWS FLASH! I got both Number of the Beast and Master of Puppets (the DT versions) on the way...they should be here by the end of the week.

I know this is probably asked way too much, but whens the new album coming out?
And does anyone know if its going to be like the previous records? Because I really liked ToT.

Chu 05-03-2005 02:42 PM

June 7th :)

I can't help you out with how it will sound, but I hope it will be heavier and longer then Train of Thought.

RiceMonster 05-03-2005 02:44 PM

I'm not hoping for any specific sound. Just something I'll enjoy. :thumb:

M7S 05-03-2005 02:47 PM

I cant wait

MAthiAS 05-03-2005 02:51 PM

I hope Octavarium is a little less straightforward than Train of Thought. While songs like As I Am and Honor Thy Father are good, IMO they don't compare to anything on 6 Degrees, Awake, or Images.

Chu 05-03-2005 02:59 PM
While songs like As I Am and Honor Thy Father are good
They're the songs I like from Train of Thought :p
But I really like them alot.

Edit: I just read about the 'nugget' from In The Name of God, what's with that? :p

Yeah. that would be cool.

trev913 05-03-2005 04:18 PM

I'd like to hear something similar to Train of Thought. But if it sounded like SFAM, I wouldn't mind that, either.
Look at the track list, though...

1. The Root Of All Evil
2. The Answer Lies Within
3. These Walls
4. I Walk Beside You
5. Panic Attack
6. Never Enough
7. Sacrificed Sons
8. Octavarium

It seems like this one could go either way. But titles like "I Walk Beside You" and "Never Enough" seem like a softer direction for the band. I dunno. Wait till the release date gets closer and we'll see what happens, I guess.

juggalotricksta 05-04-2005 10:39 AM

Well, I have a new question...but I don't have a way to transition smoothly from the current topic. So...

Speaking of Octavarium...how do you guys pronounce "Ytse"?

The Depressed 05-04-2005 10:43 AM
Speaking of Octavarium...how do you guys pronounce "Ytse"?
It-see. Or sometimes Yit-see. I think Portnoy says it's It-see.

juggalotricksta 05-04-2005 10:50 AM

/thought it was yeets

Are they studio albums, or Live recordings? I have Master of Puppets Live, and it kicks total ***. So much better then the original.

vashts80 05-04-2005 02:31 PM

They're both live. The NOTB one is from Paris IIRC
