I really think The Final Cut is a lyrical album, not a musical album. Lyrically, it's arguably the most mature thing to date by Waters. However, musically, it's very subpar.
Yeah, I agree,
T'is very personal.

realplayer47 12-23-2004 06:54 PM

Personnaly, i think that The final cut is one of the best pink floyd album ever with the wall and WYWH.

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 07:01 PM

Well, its a very divisive album. Some fans say its the best, some say its the worst.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 09:28 PM
Oh shoot, made an error.... I was thinking of Momentary Lapse of Reason... Final Cut is the last PF album with Roger in it... wait, is that the one with Fletcher Memorial Home on it? If so, then I didn't care for that album much, just the song I just mentioned.
How many albums didn't have Roger on them? I know MLoR didn't, but are there any others?

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 09:29 PM

Waters wasn't on The Division Bell. Also, if you're including live stuff, he wasn't on PULSE either.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 09:30 PM

Is the Division Bell worth while?

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 09:35 PM

Yes. Yes. And YES! Even Roger Waters, the egomaniac who refused to sign a copy of The Wall for a fan because if had signatures from the other members, said it was good. It's great. It goes back more to their roots.

Kingofdudes 12-23-2004 09:41 PM

Im thinking of redoing the review for "The Wall" in the CD reviews section. I dont know how good it would be though :/

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 09:43 PM

He acclaimed it and he wasn't even on it!?! Wow, that's pretty impressive. You'd think he would be bitter about it. I have Momentary Lapse of Reason and I'm really not that impressed with it. It's still better than most of the stuff out there, but not great like Floyd's other stuff.

So then is The Division Bell more proggy and less poppish than MLoR? Another question, is the album cover of The Division Bell those two Aztek looking statues facing each other?

Kingofdudes 12-23-2004 09:44 PM

Yes

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 09:55 PM

Division Bell is great. Its got two instrumental tracks, and its really creative. I wouldn't say its super progressive, because the Pink Floyd sound had been done for 20+ years by then, so its hard for it to be "progressive." However, it definitely doesn't have that 80's pop feel of AMLOR. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 10:03 PM

Allright, it shall be my next Floyd purchase after the Wall DVD. :thumb:

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:04 PM

Excellent. The Wall DVD is also awesome.

magicbus 12-23-2004 10:08 PM
Also, the song WYWH isn't about Syd. It applies to him, sure, but its not actually about him. I'm in a rush, but I'll clarify later.
Finally. I agree with you on this one.

gmoneyguy 12-23-2004 10:13 PM

Thats is quite surprising.

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:16 PM

Isn't it?

And Magicbus, glad to see you agree with me!

magicbus 12-23-2004 10:19 PM

Everybody's been saying that WYWH is about Syd, but only SOYCD was written about him. I've never really had time to explain this though. I'm glad you brought it up.

Oh, and I have those DT covers. AIM=rockshowguy56

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:21 PM

I'm so IMing you right now to get them.

gmoneyguy 12-23-2004 10:23 PM

Are they the ones off of "A Change in Seasons"?

magicbus 12-23-2004 10:24 PM

Couldn't tell ya. Not into DT, just love these songs. Sounds just like Gilmour's solo.

gmoneyguy 12-23-2004 10:25 PM

Is one In the Flesh?

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:27 PM

No. It's Comfortably Numb and Hey You.

gmoneyguy 12-23-2004 10:30 PM

oh ok
so its not what I was thinking.

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:31 PM

I haven't listened to Hey You yet, but Comfortably Numb is a live recording. It's pretty good. The guitar playing is a VERY impressive replica of Gilmour, and the guy who sings Gilmour's part does a good job.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 10:33 PM
It's pretty good. The guitar playing is a VERY impressive replica of Gilmour
Stupid Petrucci. He can do anything. You wouldn't happen to have MSN IM would you?

DeusExMachina 12-23-2004 10:35 PM

No, sorry. I could email it to you if you have gmail, or anything else that takes big attachments.

At the end of Comfortably Numb, you hear bits of them covering other Pink Floyd songs... what Pink Floyd whores!

And Petrucci may be good at replicating Gilmour, but Gilmour is still better as far as I'm concerned.

shawnson 12-23-2004 10:35 PM

your thinking of the medley from the ACOS album with in the flesh, carry on wayward son, bohemian rhapsody, lovin' touchin' squeezin', cruise control and turn it on again. they did an awesome job on that. i never thought anyone could do gilmour's solo on comfortable numb, but i was proven wrong.

gmoneyguy 12-23-2004 10:37 PM

Technically, Petrucci has the upper hand by far, but he can't bring nearly as much emotion through the speakers, so yes, I must agree with you.
