Grey Incision--is there a new bio on Opeth.net. I haven't been to that site in a couple months, and I can't access it from work. Do you have thoughts about what The Leper Affinity is about? Some folks seem to think its about rape and murder..and to me, that's pretty evil. I hope my interpretation is accurate. peace, Chris
haven't been to Opeth.net but the bio on Opeth.com is awesome (dunno if they are the same thing or not) With Leper affinity, i have the same sort of interpretation as you, as Mikael did express his feelings about the album were his disdain for humanity. Opeth oasis brought up a valid point earlier in the thread. BWP can be considered as a concept album, although Mikael didn't intend it to be. Leper affinity-The town of Blackwater park is plagued by a disease(Leprosy) and the character is not affected "i am beyond death" Bleak-The character works to find a cure "heart still beating for the cause" Harvest-The townspeople are dying but the character ist still working for a cure "halo of death, all i see is departure, mourners lament, but it's me who's the martyr" The drapery falls-A lover, or somebody dear to the character dies "you turn your back and you walk away" Dirge for november-The character is contemplating suicide, throwing it all in as a result of the death of somebody dear to him. "Preparations are done, this can't last The mere refletion brought disgust No ordeal to conquer, this firm slit" The funeral portrait-He has given up, finally commited suicide, and left the town to it's own. "I'm greeting my downward fall, leaving the throes to others." Patterns in the ivy-instrumental Blackwater park-The town is left with the last of the townspeople dying off. "Lepers coiled neath the trees Dying men in bewildered soliloquys Perversions bloom round the bend Seekers, lost in their quest Ghosts of friends frolic under the waning moon It is the year of death Wielding his instruments Stealth sovereign reaper Touching us with ease." This is just 1 interpretation of The leper affinity and the BWP album as a whole. Personally, i prefer the conclusion you have come to, it is more logical, considering that Mikael did not mean BWP to be a concept album |
It's not a concept album with a storyline!!!! LAKJSDSOAIDH8023ghroawuef

i know card, don't worry :) i was saying, opeth_oasis said it earlier, and it is an interpretation |
Lol ok, I thought that everyone kept ignoring me the million times I said it. "No worries."
|
No, it's neither of the three female singers on that album. Seeing as how it's Det, I'm going to make the WWWWIIIIIILLLLDDDD assumption that it's Anneke Van Giersbergen from The Gathering.
Also, YAY, real conversation in this thread again.
;) The very same.
btw, Det-was the woman in your avatar on Ayreon-the human equation album?
No, but she HAS performed with Arjen Lucassen before, on an earlier Ayreon album (into the Electric Castle). [/obsessed] |
Do all opeth songs have a lot of screaming in them? jw because i downloaded one of them (it was something about a park im not quite sure though) and i didnt like it because of all the screaming (i am not a big fan of metal). so are they all like that?

Mikael does growl in the majoriry of Opeth songs, yes. Either you learn to enjoy it, or there's not that much Opeth material open for you...although they did produce an all soft album. |

Try the song Harvest, thats the first Opeth song i ever heard and it got me hooked on them. |

Harvest, first Opeth song I heard, genius... *memories* |
April ethereal, first song i heard..............i thought it was trash.............then it grew on me...........and kept growing:) and now, it's always in my top 5 songs:)
|
is there any song that you guys find kind of weak for Opeth standards? I think i would have to say the Amen Corner, that just doesnt appeal to me the way the other songs do.

For me it would be Ending Credits. Don't get me wrong, I like it quite a bit, but it tends to get on my nerves after I hear it a few times. |

could it be the repetitiveness (sp?) and i agree with amen corner, it's one of the only songs i don't rate highly on the MAYH album, i still like it, just not as much. Also, many would disagree, but i say Wreath, that's never done much for me. |
yes, for me the first time i was listening to Amen Corner i found it to be a really cool song, but it kind of lost me about halfway through.
|
The Amen Corner loses me everytime. I like the individual parts and riffs and such, but the song as a whole just never manages to hold my interest all the way through.
|
 ok good im not the only one
|
i dislike Moonlapse Vertigo i dont really know why, it just does nothing for me.
im sorry im sorry :upset:
all is well, for i just listened to it, and my rage has subsided again :thumb: |
By the way, i have a question for all you Opeth fans, i was wondering, what is the hardest song to play, guitar wise? i need a nice little challenge/goal to work for. i was thinking White cluster maybe? blackrose immortal even( that's not too hard, just amazingly long)
|
^well which song do you dislike the most?
|
the funeral portrait i have never been able to get for some reason
|
Na i dont mind that song i find it better than 'Dirge for November' and i enjoy the sweep picking solo on it
|
the hardest guitar work would be off orchid and still life
|
o try singing and playing wreath at the same time, now thats something i think even Mike has troubles doing
|
Agreed. One of the big positives with opeth for me is that the guitar parts arent always impossibly hard yet always sounds impressive.
Where do you live oasis? |
