BTW what should I get next?
Tales from the Twilight World is closer to Somewhere Far beyond. Very good album, this is where Blind Guardian actually started turning into a power band. Hansi's vocals are rawer and he mostly uses his lower ones (hadnt started lessons yet). There are certainly mainy highlights in this album including: Welcome To Dying, Lord Of The Rings, The Last Candle and my favourite Lost In The Twilight Hall where we have a Hansi Kursch - Kai Hansen dwelling.

Imaginations from the Other Side is closer to Nightfall in Middle Earth. Alright, not THAT close but this is where Blind Guardian gained a more modern symphonic/melodic perspective but yet it's thrashy although with less folk elements. The production quite "muddy", Somewhere Far Beyond's exact opposite and Hansi mostly uses his "barky", despairate vocals. This album was the most difficult for me to get and it's the "darkest" in Blind Guardian's Discography. My favourite songs are Imaginations from the Other Side ,Alive, Mordred's Song, Bright Eyes, Another Holy War.

GET THEM BOTH!

Anyone into Celesty or Mystic Prophecy? I got albums by both, the later of the two being rather generic :(

Thor 07-09-2005 03:56 PM

Anyone else like Hammerfall? I got their new album this week and enjoyed it.

I do! I got their album (the one on your avatar) in Italy because I wanted to try something new, and they are pretty cool. The one song I can really listen to (as in, more than twice) is Secrets, though.

I can listen to the album in short bursts and love it, but I can't stay with it for long periods of time. That album is really high on the "cheese factor" if you ask me.

Yes! I didn't want to say in in case I offended anyone, but yeah. The guitar stuff is awesome, but the lyrics are sooo cheesy. The only song I really like is Secrets. I love the solo part; when the keyboards are going and all of a sudden everything goes quiet, and then that guitar squeal comes on. That's awesome. :thumb:

I got the new Hammerfall album at Download, its pretty good. I'd previously only heard their live album (One Crimson Night?) and wasn't too impressed with them, but this kinda changed my opinion.

I only have One Crimson Night too. It bores me senseless.

Stoic 07-11-2005 08:27 AM

Are there any Nevermore fans in here?

 Me. I checked them out after Shattered_Future said that he was going to see them at Gigantour; I have another friend who is going also. They are pretty cool.

AA-12 07-11-2005 08:33 AM

Nevermore is awesome. Their new album is great.

Stoic 07-11-2005 08:35 AM

ahhh lucky guys, hope they have fun! I've downloaded a couple songs off their new album (promo) on soulseek and I must say they sound pretty good, especially "born", an absolute slayer. Warrel Dane is insane.

Lord Abortion 07-11-2005 09:44 AM

I knid of like hammerfall, but it seems to not stand out from other PM bands much...

Stoic 07-11-2005 09:49 AM

according to some interviews I've read, this is their purpose in fact: to be as old school as they can. Same with dream evil if I'm not mistaken.

Hey, im looking for a new band(s) to listen to. Im looking for something that has fast(er) guitaring that is HELLA deep. Deep screaming too. Any ideas?

Recommendations thread. :thumb:

However, many power metal bands don't have ultra-downtuned riffs and screaming vocals...

If you want, try Nile, Six Feet Under or Cryptopsy. All death metal bands...those should fit the bill for what you are looking for.

EDIT: Got an interesting question I'm pondering...are power metal bands better with or without keyboardists?

I don't mind keyboards, but I only like them when they are subtle, I don't usually like too many keyboards in a song and I rather there be more guitar riffs but if they are used less often then that's alright.

Stoic 07-11-2005 05:11 PM

I used to have problem with keyboards too but I soon got over it. Still I much prefer the guitar parts.

CaptainWaits 07-11-2005 11:50 PM

I used to have a huge problem with the standard double-pedal beats in many Power Metal bands, as well as the vocals. I've gotten over both now, though some vocals and drumming still p*sses me off. Sonata Arctica being one of the vocals I still can't stand

Lord Abortion 07-12-2005 02:29 AM

Sonata are great, Reckoning night is my favourite out of the two I have heard though(winterheart's guild is the other)
