Burzum is the same lol
Too bad Burzum is good music and Xasthur is not...

publicastration 06-18-2008 06:06 PM

But I mean you can't say Xasthur is **** for sounding like that because Burzum does too, even more so. On Hvis the songs are all like 15 minutes long.

Charizard 06-18-2008 06:08 PM

xasthur is sick because malefic looks like a zebra

Angmar 06-18-2008 06:15 PM

Ok so if I wrote really bad, boring, laughable and silly in front of all those things I mentioned would that make a little more sense?

masscows 06-18-2008 06:17 PM

I'm not really a fan of that type of black metal anyways but Xasthur is just unlistenable

Stormrider 06-18-2008 06:30 PM
But I mean you can't say Xasthur is **** for sounding like that because Burzum does too, even more so. On Hvis the songs are all like 15 minutes long.
lmao what do the songs being 15 minutes have to do with anything?

A lot of bands sound like Burzum yet are no where near as good. Whats your point?

Bordello 06-18-2008 06:32 PM

burzum definitely has drum machines and blast beats

nyktalgia are a good burzum clone band

Nostalgia 06-18-2008 06:37 PM

yeah i actually like nyktalgia all right

Silenius 06-18-2008 07:11 PM

Difference between Burzum and Xasthur is Burzum repeats riffs that are good/lend themselves to repetition (like the intro of Det Som Engang Var). Xasthur repeats stuff that sounds like arpeggios on open strings of a detuned guitar.

Bordello 06-18-2008 07:14 PM

ya pretty much

malefic somehow managed to make even worse music with 666TWILIGHT THE BLACK METAL SUPERGROUP666

Txus 06-18-2008 07:24 PM

i (l) bnajreujfirjokokrplfprlfplñalsñañqñqpqopefkvmmnzjapaleakilsoqmsndzaaskjdei so much guys!

there is no happy here
Hahahahaha.

Malefic is a fag and the Xasthur from Singapore ****ing rules.

Angmar 06-18-2008 08:30 PM

Nyktalgia are actually pretty good, Sterbend on the other hand I can hardly listen to. They're like, even more Burzumish than Nyktalgia and their vocals are hilarious.

Nostalgia 06-18-2008 08:32 PM

the vocals aren't even bad - if you're a fan of **** italian Nazgul you can't say anything negative about Sterbend's vocals.

publicastration 06-18-2008 08:34 PM

I agree Malefic is a fag that wallows in his own self misery too much but he makes some good music imo.

BTW Steve thanks for the Walknut reccomendation, it's fantastic!

Angmar 06-18-2008 08:34 PM

Sterbends are just too high in the mix and really irk me. And I know Nazgul's vocals are also hilarious, but I find their music much more enjoyable/interesting.

And np about the Walknut, they're pretty awesome.

Bordello 06-18-2008 08:34 PM

new darkspace is pretty good but idk, its pretty much more of the same

i see they brought back some of the chugging

Angmar 06-18-2008 08:35 PM

Dark II still remains their best but I think I like the new one more than the first.

Bordello 06-18-2008 08:37 PM

well yeah

but seriously like six 10+ minute songs is way too much

Angmar 06-18-2008 08:40 PM

Yeah, it is way too long.

Stormrider 06-18-2008 08:42 PM

There is nothing bad about Nazgul's vocals.

Angmar 06-18-2008 08:43 PM

They aren't bad per say but they are kinda funny. I really don't mind them at all.

Nostalgia 06-18-2008 08:46 PM

yeah the vocals are ****ing homosexual. but i dont know, it's not the only thing homosexual you like, young james.

like when you todl me to get that Ombre Eternelle demo and it blew. or that time you were gonna trade me my Triskele demo for one of your shitty demos that sucked.

yeah **** off.

Stormrider 06-18-2008 08:54 PM

hahhaa obviously i want to get rid of the stuff i don't like

and i never told you to get the Ombre Eternelle. You already had your eye on it and wanted to get it after I brought up that I had ordered it.
The way masscows argued there was cowardly. The one thing I never do is avoid giving counterarguments and usually when I face someone disagreeing with me this is what I usually get. I disagree with a lot of what you say there Mr. Ron, but I'm actually going to say why.

You claimed that dissatisfaction is what is common in black metal but that can be extended to any metal genre and even perhaps every music genre. Metal in itself protests against something, showing their dissatisfaction whether it's through protesting political hypocrisy or promoting nordic culture. Amongst those bands that really understand what black metal is about corpsepaint and satanism is symbolic of rebellion against the established christian society rather than a real belief in the devil.

The majority of bands are complete **** and follow their predecessors and this is particularly rife amongst black metal because it's probably the easiest genre to do that in, and is attractive to a bunch of teenage loosers who have decided one day they are elite because they listen to albums only 665 other people in the world have a copy of.
Hm, you do have a point. Most metal is in some way a form of rebellion. I always thought black metal stood apart for some reason, though. Thats what attracted me to it from an early age. It seemed to be some primal scream against modernity. I loved it. But again, your point is a good one. I will have to think more on what sets apart black metal from other genres, if at all.

Its the easiest genre to do it in because of the DIY culture that evolved around it imo. I mean, I don't gave to tell you, there are tons of one man "bands" in BM because its possible to get the sound fairly easy.
no matter what sort of wordplay you kiddies want to use to justify it, black metal will never be about feminism, being a hippie and flowers like WITTR seem to think. black metal is satanic destruction not preserving rainforests.
In all honesty, I don't think you can really pin BM down to being about one or two things. There's a pretty diverse bunch of mixtures in the BM culture itself. Sure, traditionally its mostly been what you have described, but there has been much growth and change over the years. For all the better i think.

I see WITTR's stance as being totally BM. I mean, whats more black metal than to go against what is normally considered black metal? haha. I understand that you don't like them, and thats cool. You'll have your taste and I'll have mine. They believe in a more spiritual connection to nature and near rejection of modern society because its so backwards and undeserving of life. Those themes go very well in their music and as a BM band I think.

This describes their stance perfectly (form an interview):

You have been labelled somewhat as “hippies” and some might say that playing black metal and those sorts of liberal earth loving ethics might be diametrically in opposition. How do you feel about that? I mean it is obvious you don’t think they are self-exclusionary.

Hippies? You mean like navel-gazing aficionados of the grateful dead? I hardly think so. I think that most people are so disconnected from a natural existence that anyone who doesn’t see the joy in playing “first person shooters” or dining regularly at pizza hut is a hippie. Frankly, I don’t have much interest in the opinions of urban lay-abouts. Also, it must be noted that radical environmentalism is very much a part of the tradition of the radical right. Even rabidly anti-Semitic NSBM has a strong ecological sensibility, following the Nazi’s explicit and well documented interest in preserving a pastoral, pre-modern Aryan utopia. At the same time, centrists decry organizations such as the ELF, who come from the anarchist tradition, as “fascists” and anti-humanists. Clearly there is a strong link between radical ecology and Black Metal, coming from the perspective of both the extreme right and extreme left. I don’t understand how one could find an earth-centered ethic and Black Metal incompatible – to me, they are one-in-the-same.

If you listen to BM, but you don’t know what phase the moon is in, or what wild flowers are blooming then you have failed. It is shocking to me that one could be seriously interested in Black Metal and not be deeply committed to radical ecology. Is BM supposed to be about concrete high rises, suburbs, television, an easy modern existence with access to 4-tracks and corpse paint from the local hot topic? No! The music is about wild forests, unfettered rivers, nature: furious and vengeful.

Frankly, I think a good portion of Black Metallers haven’t thought too hard about why they are into the music. I remember reading an interview with Garm of Ulver, I think in Michael Moynihan’s “Lords of Chaos”. Garm just couldn’t say enough horrible things about the youthful malcontents who buy the majority of Black Metal records; I tend to agree with him. Black Metal is a fairly easy thing to get into. There is a style, a sound, a set of beliefs – it’s all there to be purchased or downloaded with nary a thought of one’s own needed to get the whole package. There is deep truth underneath the façade of grim posturing, but one needs to search for it.

I'm so non conformist, I'm not gonna conform to you guys.

Every one conforms one way or the other, thats the thing! lol

Stevie II 06-19-2008 01:36 AM

Great post Mr. Ron :thumb:

Yeah, the DIY aspect is a lot to do with it really, same as punk. I don't really see black metal as being so separate from other extreme metal genres. The difference lies perhaps in when the norwegians started saying that they took their lyrics seriously and along with "walking the walk" to some extent which no other genre has really done. However I think death and black metal is really where metal finally shook off the braindead rock n roll lifestyle and looked for higher ideals.

I'm really getting fed up with people copying Euronymous saying that black metal is all about destruction and death. It's like a three year old on a temper tantrum. You said it very well Mr. Ron, I haven't much more to say :p.

Silenius 06-19-2008 02:01 AM

I think Dark III is a nice mix of I and II. Plus 3.17 is an awesome song.
