I don't talk about music much outside of MX, but when I do, I don't use "emo". I'll either say "emotional hardcore", or just "hardcore", to include hardcore, emo, metalcore, etc.
I usually just say hardcore too, but unfortunately, not many people know what hardcore is either. The people that do know it from me.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Yeah, I don't think the people I talk to know what hardcore is either, but I think it's slightly easier for them to grasp than emo. Especially with the way the mainstream presents "emo".

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 06-21-2006 01:44 PM

I did that once and it ended up like this

Me - I like Hardcore.
Friend - Like Underoath and Silverstein?
Me - Uh excuse me?
Friend - Or do you like hardcore screamo like My Chemical Romance?
Me - I don't like music.

k1ckthecat 06-21-2006 01:47 PM

hahaha

Mute Print 06-21-2006 01:47 PM

 Wow.

Really, none of my friends know anything about music at all, so I rarely discuss it. A few days ago, my friend asked me who My Chemical Romance was, because he was misquoted in an interview for our school yearbook as saying MCR was his favorite band.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 06-21-2006 01:50 PM

I have a couple of friends who are educated. Maybe like 3 or 4.

What do you think a person that calls my chemical romance screamo would call like, saetia or pg99?

cobert 06-21-2006 01:57 PM

I remember on some forum full of idiots, some guy made a thread on the number 12 and sent a link to a myspace of them, and everyone was like "THEY ARE ALL SCREAMING FREAKS."

ROFL at answers.

whiteminority 06-21-2006 02:04 PM

are oh eff el

bottlerocket 06-21-2006 02:12 PM

I just tell people I listen to old school 90s emo because usually they say, "Oh, is that different from like Fall Out Boy?"

"Yes, incredibly. That's not really "emo." Emo is screaming, thrashy guitars, intricate instrumental work, and really passionate music. Fall Out Boy is pop-punk."

"Oh, OK."

/educated

It's flawless.

Speaking of Number 12, I haven't listened to them in a while. I should do that.

Its so fun to turn it really really loud in your car and just sit there at a stoplight.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 06-21-2006 02:32 PM

Hahaha I turn up br00tal tunes when I'm washing my car and the neighbors always look at me funny as I rock out with the water hose.

Special Brew 06-21-2006 02:42 PM

They're mad good. Their guitar work is sick.
