Yeah, the Interweb doesn't capture emotion. Don't mess with Agalloch again though :p

On a second though, I'm fucking unleashing the AIDS monkey's to you!

Stormrider 09-12-2006 07:07 PM

Agalloch are the poo. in a bad way.

lol, dont worry Txus, I like Agalloch.

Daven 09-12-2006 07:12 PM

Agalloch is ok...

Txus 09-12-2006 07:18 PM

I'm not responding to Agalloch haters anymore :upset:

Shattered_Future 09-12-2006 07:20 PM

Ashes Against The Grain is just...really boring. I mean, the riffs are kinda cool, but it just goes nowhere.

18 days until Opeth. :D

Agalloch rocks pretty fucking hard; and no, I'm not just saying that to back Txus.

They've consistently been one of my favorite bands since I found out about them.

Txus 09-12-2006 08:08 PM

<3 you too man! haha \m/

Stormrider 09-12-2006 08:21 PM

Pale Folklore has grown a lot on me since the beginning. I'm not caling myself a huge fan from what I've heard, but everynow and then, the album is a great listen.

Anglachel 09-12-2006 08:29 PM

WTF IS WITH THE AGALLOCH HATIN YO?

I have all their albums. And EPs.

RouteOne 09-12-2006 08:45 PM

You think AATG is boring? It's one of their most lively albums yet.

Toaster 09-12-2006 08:46 PM

Heh. I agree with both of you.
WTF IS WITH THE AGALLOCH HATIN YO?
It's the Opeth thread. It's a given. :p Though I love both bands.

i am the robots 09-12-2006 09:46 PM

Agalloch wins, seriously, be quiet nubs.

Opeth is cool too.

So is Darkthrone.

:D.

Toaster 09-12-2006 09:50 PM

Opeth wins by mercy; they shut out Agalloch, injure their star player, demoralize their fans, disrespect their field, and rub their sweaty jocks in the faces of anyone who oppose their mighty supremacy.

Stormrider 09-12-2006 09:54 PM
So is Darkthrone.

:D.
I thought you never liked Darkthrone, or am I mistaking another band here ?

Nostalgia 09-12-2006 10:23 PM

You can't really compare Opeth to Agalloch. The only true thing they have that's similiar is acoustic work. They both focus on harsher vocals, longer songs, and clean vocals. They have totally different lyrical themes, and their overall sound is totally different.

pate 09-12-2006 11:11 PM

But they are both utterly amazing, so I can compare them.

Hell, I compare Iron Maiden, Opeth, and Testament all the time.

Det_Nosnip 09-13-2006 08:59 AM

You must be bored alot.

TojesDolan 09-13-2006 11:01 AM

lolz

Anyway Agalloch reminds me of old-school Opeth.

This is very true.

Yeah, that actually kind of remind me of Agalloch too. Earlier stuff was pretty raw vocal-wise.

pate 09-13-2006 02:24 PM

I see some similarities, but Agalloch is way better than anything from the first two Opeth albums, and I am a total Opeth fanboy.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-13-2006 03:00 PM

I got Blackwater Park last night. It's a pretty good album although I do prefer Ghost Reveries to it. That may change though. The only reason why I like Ghost Reveries more is because there is less cookie monster vocals, and Mikael Akerfeldt's voice is one of my favorite parts about Opeth.

All the growling on Ghost Reveries is basically cookie monster growls. The growling on Blackwater Park is like a hundred times better.

Actually compared to that album, all the other non-clean vocals on their albums kind of suck besides maybe Still Life.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-13-2006 03:05 PM

Yeah, the only Opeth albums I own are Ghost Reveries, Damnation, and Blackwater Park.

pate 09-13-2006 03:16 PM

"Mikael's voice" includes said cookie moster vocals.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-13-2006 03:19 PM

I mean when he isn't growling. Sorry for not specifying.

I always thought he sounds more or less the same, besides on the first 2. I think on GR his growling is at its best.

The thing that's most different about BWP's vocals is that they're absolutely drenched in reverb.. making them sound more huge. I prefer a rawer growling style though, like on Deliverance.

Eliminator 09-13-2006 03:49 PM

Well then I guess I like his voice drenched in reverb.

:(

Toaster 09-13-2006 03:52 PM

Haha, I love those vocals too.. they definitely sound beastly. I just like GR vocals more. It's basically because on BWP he doesn't even sound human, it's like a huge demon growling. I like to imagine Mikael screaming his ass off.

TojesDolan 09-13-2006 04:17 PM

The growling in Deliverance is almost tired, like they were completely drained after I don't know... A wild sex action scene or something of that nature.

And I think early opeth and Agalloch are similar vocally. Agallock though, has more of an ambient-feeling going on, which is also acceptable and pretty much makes the overall music less bland, but sometimes very repetitive. But yeah vocals is the way to go.

Might I suggest Deliverance and Morningrise as your next purchases.

And Still Life. Refund GR to get it if needed.
And Still Life. Refund GR to get it if needed.
I always forget to suggest Still Life. While I like Morningrise and Deliverance more than it, most people seem to disagree with me.

But still... BWP> all

TojesDolan 09-13-2006 05:20 PM

Still Life goes soft in moments that aren't certainly needed soft... I don't know how to explain it.

They should've left Benighted and Face of Melinda (style, yeh) for the end, that way the album would never go dull. Then again, it all makes sense through those tracks, and the pace set and that stuff,so I'm hesitant and confused. :(

Jude 09-13-2006 05:33 PM

I don't know what you're talking about. To me Still Life seems to flow perfectly...almost everything about that album is perfect, apart from the production.

TojesDolan 09-13-2006 05:40 PM

It flows perfectly, but I'm not always in to mood to listen to Benighted and Face of Melinda.

Kage 09-13-2006 06:02 PM

Man...

nevermind.

Det_Nosnip 09-13-2006 06:03 PM

How about from trying to write and record two completely different albums simultaneously within a less-than-ideal studio environment?
