That you did son, that you did... I got the sudden urge to throw in a TLDR but then I realized I'm not that gay.

No, I find it interesting. It's very different from Australia.

They have a football team?

Aside from women's basketball (uhhh), their athletic department blows.

Yea, they're WVU's bitch.
No, I find it interesting. It's very different from Australia.
Well, Americans are more crazy about our sports than Australia is*

* - I'm going out on a limb here but I doubt any of your pro athletes are being paid $20 million a year

But yeah, it's really cool. The fact that we're all regional rivals to start with (not to mention the class distinction involved; for instance, Michigan and Northwestern look down their noses at everyone in our conference, which makes us hate them even more), and that the main fanbases are drunk crazy college students, make college rivalries more fun than pro rivalries, and make college games more fun to attend.
Yea, they're everybody's bitch.
fix'd

edit - actually their football team was pretty scrappy this year, they even made it to a Bowl game.
Yes, the East Coasties are nobodies
You don't follow sports, so I'll let you slide on not knowing of the supposed "East Coast Bias".

jpj 01-30-2006 06:37 PM
edit - actually their football team was pretty scrappy this year, they even made it to a Bowl game.
There's so many of them you only have to be 6-5 to go to one.

Illmatic 01-30-2006 06:38 PM

Haha, they were 7-4 (7-5 after they lost the bowl game)

Kurtz 01-30-2006 06:39 PM

Don't you go to one if you have a winning record or something like that?

Jom 01-30-2006 06:42 PM
Ray, you seem to have beef with just about every other school in the Big Ten
Well, it's only natural to hate certain schools in your conference, especially if you're bitter rivals. You don't have to hate everyone, but I mean, who likes to lose?

It's not like your crosstown rival from high school was your school's best friend for things; I mean, why have pep assemblies other than to get out of class? When anything U of M/MSU-related transpires, it's always fun. The same is probably for you when USC/UCLA throw down.

///

Rutgers has really turned their football program around substantially.

And to be honest, I only think of East Coast schools when I'm thinking basketball, but not football.

jpj 01-30-2006 06:44 PM

I still hate VT with a passion, even though they are no longer in the Big East. I only wish we still played them because I think WVU finally has a better team than them.

lol @ Marcus Vick getting kicked off the team

At the games students would have shirts that said "Pitt Sucks" on the front and "Vick Swallows" on the back

Kurtz 01-30-2006 06:45 PM
And to be honest, I only think of East Coast schools when I'm thinking basketball, but not football.
Same here; BU, Georgetown, Duke, UConn, Maryland. And it seems like it's near impossible to have a great football team and a great basketball team, unless of course you're Texas.

///

USC/UCLA is by far the biggest game of any kind in all Southern California. The entire region falls into schism between the two teams.

Illmatic 01-30-2006 06:53 PM
And to be honest, I only think of East Coast schools when I'm thinking basketball, but not football
Well, the most dominant programs in college football history are southern (Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma), midwestern (Notre Dame, scUM), or west coast (University of Spoiled Children), so I can't blame you.

Of course, UCLA IS the best program in college basketball history, just throwing that out there, and behind them Kentucky and Indiana have the most national championships. Weird stuff.

That never gets old.

Especially when you're dating someone from a USC family

Pretty weird, they really haven't been a solid college hoops program.

The list goes on.

Wah-hahahahahha. I was cracking up when I saw Ray's initial post, but the possibilities are endless, just like the never-ending pasta bowl at Olive Garden.

Awesome. And yeah, nobody gets paid that much in Australia, but that's more due to the smaller fan base than our mad keeness on sports.
