I play the 3 string in the intro, but in the end, Jones plays it in powerchords, so you have to play it like this
0 0 7 7 5 0 and it's hard to do. |
I guess I'm really good and learning or something...
I hear all these people say the songs are difficult to learn. But about a week ago, I was listening to Lateralus and picked up almost all the notes and played with the entire CD (exceot for D/R/T). |
I've played guitar for 3½ years, so I don't find anything off of lateralus particulary difficult either
|
Good, I'm not the only one...
But I have been practicing learning by ear for a long time now, so thats probably it. I've been playing for 6 years. I'm not much of a shredder though, but I'm on my way ;) |
Hehe.. I'm not much of a shredder either.. .. I'm not able to play 16th notes above 120 bpm... IE I really really suck
At shredding.. That is.. My forte is playing weird shit.. And doing original "tricks" to get weird sounds |

Guitar seems kinda easy for me, and I've only been playing seriously since April. Edit: Well, when it comes to Tool and Metallica songs it's pretty easy for me. |

The hardest thing I can play is the ending solo of Fade To Black. I feel incredibly awesome though when playing it, its great. |

Me too man, I can' play Lateralus' solo though :p But playing along with anything that sounds cool is just orgasmic for me. |
I get the feeling of being cool when I'm recording some of my melodic metal harmonized riffs.. There's something about two guitars playing along side perfectly that tickles my fancy bigtime
|
Yeah I know.
I find that all of the music I record (mostly un-thought out Grindcore AKA thrashing instruments) I love. I just love listening to stuff I make for some reason, even though I know it sucks :D I'm gonna start actually WRITING my songs now though, instead of writing stupid stuff. |
I feel like such a narcissist when I put one of my own tracks on repeat.. hehehe
|

I do the same. Even if they are poorly recorded. |
I get a musical orgasm when I write my own stuff and people like it. Or when the whole band is together and theres a build up, then an eighth rest and then it explodes.
|
Ah.. My days of poorly recorded recordings are over with due to my sexy PodXT *pets his podxt*
|
I wish I had one.....
Just got back from the first day of my job at Subway, and man is it nice to work there. |

Aw man... I LOVE that. We have that in one of our songs, its so intense I love it :D Knifeboy, hows the POD? Worth getting? |
I get frustated cause I always wanna play along to the lateralus solo but I dont even have a guitar. I am aslo trying to nail down schism on drums.
I hear working for subway sucks |
The best thing about the podxt is if I sit by my computer with my guitar in my hand, and suddenly gets an idea I want to record, I just turn on my podxt, press "ctrl+alt+c" (my shortcut to cool edit), press "ctrl+alt+g" (my shortcut to guitar pro, for editing tones) and voila, recording

Schism is easy to learn, but playing the entire song is a huge feat. So many parts, and so many time signature changes. My advice is just learn it piece by piece or it will probaby get to complicated.
|
playing it perfect does make it difficult, so you cant say it is easy to learn, most people can get the drop of the snare hits. and the ending is very intimidating to newer drummers.

The ending is the funnest and easiest part of the song! When I say learning I kinda meant having the ability to play the parts, and not the entire song say with a band. That makes the song very difficult, but I don't think it is if you take it in pieces. |
the end is very easy, thats what throws people off when learning it, they try to do to much shit, i have taught that song to kids and 46 and 2, and aenima, im glad that kids want to learn tool songs.
|
How old are you faith?
Just wondering. |
im a youngin myself (16) but when i said kids, i mean young kids like 8-10.
in fact one kid could play 46 and 2 within 2 years (not good..... but good enough to show off at guitar center) |
