"I laugh under the weeping moon!" WHAT DOES IT MEAN (sarcasm)???. Post some that don't make sense to you and maybe someone else can figure it out.

Det_Nosnip 03-29-2006 05:14 PM

Here's an obvious one: "Searching My Way to Perplexion." One of the best vocal deliveries of all time, but what the **** does it mean?!

I've been listening to MAYH to death lately...I think I finally "got" it as others have. It really is an amazing album.

Shadows 03-29-2006 05:25 PM

These all seem to make sense to me...

I just looked up perplexion on dictionary.com and its not even a word.

Toaster 03-29-2006 05:54 PM

"The portrait of the jaded dawn who had seen it all before"

Huh? I think a lot of them are semi-meaningful, but have embellishments just to make them sound cooler.

ok lateralus 03-29-2006 06:02 PM

Did anyone else notice that Opeth borrow a lot of lines from other bands that influence them? For example I noticed that the opening line of When, "Red sun rising" is most likely taken from the opening lyric of Black Sabbath's "Warning", which has the same exact line. Also on April Ethereal, "Something passed by and I went into a dream" reminded me a lot of The Beatles' "A Day in the Life", where Paul sings "Someone spoke and I went into a dream." I heard Mikael's a big fan of that song so maybe

eighty d 03-29-2006 06:21 PM

Trying to interperet early Opeth could be difficult. Mikael said himself as he was introducing "Under The Weeping Moon," "This is from our first album. The lyrics are very profound... about nothing."
You crazy kids and your Orchid.

Still Life still wins. Oh, and I actually bought a copy of it. Sure, it's from some guy in Kanadia, but it's soon to me MINE. I expect it to come with maple syrup stains on the cover.
You should feel honored.

Yes it is. It comes from the word "preplex" or "perplexing", which basically means "confusion".

Darkness 03-29-2006 07:36 PM

I just got the Breeding Death EP from Bloodbath! This is ripping good stuff! :D

That's because you were searching for a specific form of the word. try searching fr just "perplex" and you'll find it.

You're thinking of complexion. :)

Nah, I'm 100 percent sure it's Paul. It's during his part:
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
made my way downstairs and drank a cup
......
had a smoke and somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Det_Nosnip 03-29-2006 11:21 PM

Yes, yes....I (thought) we all knew what perplexion is...but why is he searching his way for it? And why, in the gleam of her eye, did she know? What?!

Kaiwaz 03-30-2006 12:24 AM

Dude, you didn't know? You have to buy the Still Life LP (Vinyl) and play it backwards to understand the true meaning of the concept displayed on that album. duh! everyone knows that :p

Killtacular 03-30-2006 12:31 AM

BUT I DON'T HAVE A RECORD PLAYER!!

Now how will I ever hear the Satanic concept?

Ohhh, I just saw 'In' and 'Life' and my brain said "In My Life". If I bothered to pay attention to the lyrics you were talking about I probably would have noticed. Whoops.

This thread makes no sense now.

TojesDolan 03-30-2006 11:26 PM

It's just crazy Flynn and his internal jokes.

Anyhow, for the first time ever I listened to "Still Life" as a whole...

What. A. Mother. Fucking. Piece. Of. Masterpiece.

For real.

Crysiss 03-31-2006 12:23 AM

I listen to it almost every day, My only CD i have at the moment:upset:

I left my CD case at my other home up north.
Here's an obvious one: "Searching My Way to Perplexion." One of the best vocal deliveries of all time, but what the **** does it mean?!
per·plex (pr-plks)
tr.v. per·plexed, per·plex·ing, per·plex·es

1. To confuse or trouble with uncertainty or doubt.
2. To make confusedly intricate; complicate.

My guess, is he used Perplexion instead of Perplex, or Perplexing to demonstrate the outcome or make the definition of the phrase completed. ''Searching my way to (as one of being intricate) = Perplexion, ahhh ahhh ahhh''

Now, if the line was ''Searching my way to Perplexed, Perplexing, or Perplexes,'' it wouldn't make sense. Perplexion isn't a word, but I've seen it used a few times before in Poetry.

Definitely their best work. My Arms, Your Hearse is amazing.

Stoo 03-31-2006 06:57 PM

What's the deal with "The Apostle In Triumph" fading out and then back in at the start? Really odd.

Deth 03-31-2006 08:58 PM

I read that it was a problem with the production. Apparently it was supposed to be part of Requeim but ended up on Apostle. I like it as it is though, it's unique.

Shadows 03-31-2006 09:06 PM

I love the part, but having it as an intro when it should've been an outro is confusing.

Deth 03-31-2006 09:12 PM

I hated it at first, but now I find it quirky and nice.
