I haven't seen any of the prequels after episode 1. I was too disgusted with it to watch the others.
I believe I'll be playing the part of Cain tonight, although I'm not nearly as cheap a drunk as him....unfortunately:( |
I like Jack Higgins, but I dislike his tendencies to repeat plot strands and themes verbatim from story to story in his WWII novels, in addition to his constant, jarring distinctions between "good Germans" and "bad Germans" in his depiction of the Third Reich's military.
On an unrelated note, how many people actually use the quick reply box at the bottom of the page? I never ever have.
/late, has been to sleep. his WWII novels aren't exactly the best ever, but i just read Pay The Devil, set in Ireland after the American Civil War, a Confederate colonel inherits land over there, gets drawn into more conflict, blah blah blah. it was a really good read though. who's read Sebastian Faulkes' "Birdsong" and "Charlotte Grey"?
Yes, I know the Wookies were shoehorned in and ultimately had no real part to play, but gosh darn they're cool.
big hairy aliens ++ |
Bah. Can't believe I missed all this author talk.
Anyone in the UK, put on Channel 4 now.
What was I missing?
My favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Dan Brown, George Orwell and Tolkien.
Have you ever read Dale Brown? Seems you would like him.
I'm reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. by Susana Clarke it's about magicians in the 18th century. I like it
Nice, I read that while I was in Florida last year..but never actually finished it. Ran out of time before having to come back to England, so I don't know how it ended. I was only about 80-100 pages from finishing, too. I should really get myself to a library again. What bit are you up to?
Harry Potter
I started at my secondary school pretty much at the same time the first Harry Potter book came out, which in an odd way made me enjoy them more. I'll never forgive her for screwing up the release times, though. The books are just getting worse as they go on, anyway.
Well, this is a year late, I know, but I just watched Revenge of the Sith all the way through. I expected torture, but not to this degree. I mean, in one scene, before Anakin is even evil, Palpatine says to him, "The Jedi don't trust me", and then goes on to say "They want to take control of the Republic. They are evil. They can't be trusted." in the next fucking sentence. I mean, he watches placidly as Palpatine fries Windu, then laments for less than a minute before treating the Emperor like an old friend. I can only assmue that Lucas thought a minute was a long period of remorse, since he only felt guilty for the 30 seconds between the release of this piece of shit and the money rolling in.
Yes, it sucked. EDIT: actually, in other Star Wars related news, a couple of days ago I finally finished both Fable and Knights of the Old Republic. Fable was a nice little story and everything, but I found I just didn't care at all about what happened to any of the characters. With KOTOR, on the other hand, I ended up caring too much, and felt faintly depressed after it. |

i have KOTOR, but i've never bothered playing it. i cheated all the way through Jedi Academy the other day frying as many aliens as possible, but it's not exactly the best game ever. i'm trying it without cheating now, as i know how to do all the missions. |

Gaunt's Ghosts are great. I love that Abnett really isn't afraid to kill off main characters for realism, even if it does mean all my favourite characters eventually end up dead. How far are you through the series?
I felt the same way. But, you have to hate Carth. I was overjoyed when he found out I was gonna kill him and take over the universe. How far are you through the series?
Yeh, Like Fereyd, And Baru, and all those people you get attatched to. I've only read First and Only, Where they go to Menazoid Epsilon. But I'm craving them, And I'm going to get the next one sometime this week.
I tried both, and ended up depressed both ways. Great game, though.
That it is. I want to play it again, it's just I can't be arsed doin the bit on Taris and that Ship your on at the start.
I hope so.
Where have you been?
And Island called Fuerta Ventura, off the coast of Africa. |
What KOTOR game was it Bartender? I absolutely loved the first one, but I kinda lost interest in my Xbox before the second was released.
|
The first one. I thought since I'd probably enjoy the games, I may as well play them in order.
|
A Third one is coming out for 360, but I don't want to have to buy a new Xbox, as I don't really play mine anymore. I'm desperate for the third knights however.
|
I still need to buy the second one. I've seen it around for quite cheap too.
If I'm going to get one of the new consoles it will most likely be a 360. New Elder Scrolls and KOTOR has me sold :-D |
I got a PS2 ages ago, and only just got myself an Xbox sometime last October, when my PS2 finally died. So my plan now is just to explore and enjoy the Xbox for a while, and not get a 360 until (at the very earliest) the PS3 arrives. And then get a PS3 years further still down the line, and so on.
I spend so much on music, I don't mind waiting on better (and second hand) prices on games, even if it does leave me years behind. Not that I have a choice. |
I spend all my game money on music. And spend all my game time on here. It's nicer.
|
I just spent five minutes in PNWI and got so annoyed I had to leave again.
That place is a good idea in principle, but I can't stand it. |

What bit are you up to?
I'm up to The part where Strange leaves Norrell's tutelage, after he reviews Portishead's essay on the Raven king. I also love Gaunt's Ghosts, being a 40k player, it's nice to view the Guard from their side, rather than as something to have my Tyranids eat. I really want to get KOTOR. Alot of people view it as one of the best RPGs out there, and I want to feel safe in saying, "well, it's no final fantasy game..." I tend to keep out of PNWI as much as I can, I don't like politics much, and I don't want to get into any argument where my lack of knowlege would make a fool out of me. I get dragged in occasionally though...too many bloody hippies in there... That's me caught up then...I'm going to listen to the football. |

I'd like to have a gun, and be all like "where's your Chilian friends now, Komrade?"
I'd like to have a gun, and be all like "where's your Chilian friends now, Komrade?"
would you like me to arrange that for you? |
You do have access to alot of firepower.

I'd personally be a fan of the double barrel. Huge amounts of power.
|
I'd personally be a fan of the double barrel. Huge amounts of power.
you don't really lose that much with the semi-auto, and you lose none with the pump-action. /goes shooting too often. this is to kill massive amounts of zombie birds, remember. more bullets faster = longer survival time :p for general use though, i like double-barrelled. |
Still, though, double barrel shotgun is best for killing giant flesheating worms. :thumb:

i'll take your word for it, i hope to never be in that situation though. NP: Megadeth - Hangar 18. |
Actual Zombies, it's not necessary to have the huge amount of power vested in the double barrel. The single barrel is quite enough.
The speed of fire and reloading time in the single barrel makes it more useful in that situation. Zombie-birds you could kill with a BB gun. |
You remind me of this.
Disappointing?

It's counterbalanced by the Wookiee goodness.

I hate Star Wars.

I've never seen a star wars movie...
Well for the love of God don't start with the new ones.

Which holiday?
NP-Candlemass-Black Dwarf |
None in particular, as far as I can tell.
there was a holiday special?
Yes, but everyone (Lucas) would rather forget about it. Part-animated and all-awful. http://www.badmovies.org/movies/swhs/ "Years ago, at a convention, I had the opportunity to interrogate a Lucasfilm spokesman (I think it was George's second in command) about this cinematic holocaust. They were allowing members of the audience to ask questions and providence placed me directly behind a young man who asked if the rest of the "Star Wars" films were going to be released on DVD. The spokesman replied, "Yes." So, when I got to the microphone, I pressed him with, "So, all of the films will be released on DVD?" "Yes, all of the movies will eventually be released." To which I delightfully responded, "Including the 'Star Wars Holiday Special?'" The man's face became very angry and he growled into the mic, "Not on your life." One of the convention toadies then escorted me away from the microphone. " |
there was a holiday special?
Even several years after I first saw it, I still wake up screaming sometimes. |
I was fortunate enough not to witness that.
If you want Star Wars, start with IV, and work your way forwards. My personal favorite was Return Of The Jedi...and not just because of the Ewoks. |
