One of my favorite vocal lines on the Hearse is on the song Karma, whe he growls ''The luring eyes, you had never seen'' But he says it like ''The loooring oooys,'' I just love that so much!
haha, fvck yeah!
Makes me grin everytime.

To Route 1: MAYH was kinda the same for me, just give it more listens.
Once you digest the songs completely you will see how they flow and, I believe, after that many memorable moments will begin to grab you.

Det_Nosnip 03-27-2006 11:55 PM
One of the coolest things about MAYH is how Mikael introduces his new growling style. For the first couple minutes of April Ethereal, he uses a higher-pitched scream, almost like on the first two albums. Then suddenly at 2:09 he emits some of the most bowel-churning vocals of his career. It brings a smile to my face whenever I think about someone hearing that for the first time.

"She faced me in awe..."
Yeah, I noticed that, too. The album is a very interesting transition between the old and new. I also think that it's the first time that they were actually making really heavy music.

Crysiss 03-28-2006 02:42 AM

123.

MAYH is just deadly. I just started getting into all the songs on there. Definitely my next opeth purchase though if im lucky, I may get a tattoo

RouteOne 03-28-2006 10:25 AM
MAYH has its moments, maybe not as many as other albums but still...

The main riff of April Ethereal, and the drumbeat on there...intense!
"Eerie circles upon the waters..." that line gives me shivers
DEMON! DEMON OF THE FALL is a good one

Those would be my top three.
I like the first track a lot where you just hear rain falling. It's peaceful.

In Demon of the fall, I think they could have used the line "Demon of the fall" in a better way than just saying it over and over again.

No way. I think that's really cool. Part of the reason it's such a good encore song, it's just really heavy and energetic. DEMON, DEMON OF THE FALL. \m/

So simple and brutal.

Jude 03-28-2006 12:01 PM

Only problem with DOTF as an encore is the climax ("Demon of the fall" riff) is halway through the song and it kind of winds down after that.

Crysiss 03-28-2006 09:30 PM

Ive never really listened to Demon Of The Fall all too much. Especially music from MAYH, yet Im falling in love with the songs on there.
np. Remember Tomorrow

The Cynic 03-28-2006 10:07 PM

I just downloaded Guitar Pro 5 but it says that I have to have some sort of ID. Does anyone know where I can get one?

It's a complex album, it may take some time to get into it, but in the long run...it's well worth it. It's my favorite Opeth album by a long shot.

Next week...
Guys! I love Still Life! My favorite Opeth album by far!
 :p

Shadows 03-28-2006 11:07 PM

I've decided that my love of all Opeth albums has become too complex for me to choose a single favorite album, though I would say Orchid has a very slight edge over others.

Same with me, except with Still Life... er, Blackwater Park. No wait, Deliverance.. no, no definatly Still Life. :thumb:

Yeah, maybe it's not Orchid...I have no idea, they're all so good.

Kaiwaz 03-28-2006 11:39 PM

I still like Orchid a lot, don't get me wrong. I used to severly slut that album like it was a watermelon jolly rancher. I've found that I like the way the Hearse was put together. It gives me a feeling no other Opeth album can touch, but that is 3 years of listening to it, in weird places at the right time. That experience, as of now, has a tremendous amount of emotion to go along with the album. Åkerfeldt's display of prowess on the album is extraordinary and no album in any genre, when compared, will even come close to the immense impact that My Arms, Your Hearse had the time it came out, not to mention no album today stands close to the intricacy displayed on the Hearse, in all areas.

Killtacular 03-29-2006 01:46 AM

You crazy kids and your Orchid.

Still Life still wins. Oh, and I actually bought a copy of it. Sure, it's from some guy in Kanadia, but it's soon to me MINE. I expect it to come with maple syrup stains on the cover.

dUSK 03-29-2006 06:43 AM

For any Australians who post in here, The Eternal have just been named as the supports for Opeth on their tour down under. I figured a couple of you might be interested in this. :)

penelope weird hands 03-29-2006 06:51 AM

I am unfamiliar with The Eternal.
<- metal noob. :#

Are they Australian?
*can't be fvcked googling*

dUSK 03-29-2006 07:01 AM

Yeah, they are from Melbourne. I haven't heard anything by them though. Apparently they are a Goth/Doom band.

penelope weird hands 03-29-2006 07:13 AM

Ah OK.
I'll have to see if anyone I know has heard them/any cd's... I doubt it though, I haven't heard of these guys before.

D'oh..I keep getting "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" when I go to their official website. I'll try later, see if they have any samples/mp3s.

If by "winds down" you mean "gets to one of the best Opeth moments ever," then you'd be correct. :)

The ending part is one of the most emotional things that they've done, IMO.

Well yeah but for a live encore, you want the song to end on a really intense part...ie BWP or Deliverance, that's why I think those are better encores.

penelope weird hands 03-29-2006 11:01 AM

Hmm... I'd like to hear some of Peter Lindgren's own original music.
Not necessarily in Opeth, but yeah..
Akerfeldt pwns but <3 for Lindgren++

Whale and Wasp 03-29-2006 11:16 AM

anyone know if it is possible at all to send fanmail to the band?

UpperDecker 03-29-2006 11:28 AM

In the song Godheads Lament, what the hell is an "undisguised manmade nova"?

TojesDolan 03-29-2006 11:40 AM
In the song Godheads Lament, what the hell is an "undisguised manmade nova"?
It's an interstellar explosion from a star, which I suppose is made by a man. Probably referring to destruction created and bred by men?

Jude 03-29-2006 02:27 PM

There are so many Opeth lyrics that I just don't get/don't make sense...

TojesDolan 03-29-2006 02:29 PM

The metaphors Mikael use are indeed very goood and confusing, but for some way after the y make sense they seem much, much better.
