oooooookay....
etc

taken to calling them punk-rock as I ignore her attempts at calling it straight punk.

Am I completely in the wrong here??

hi btw :p:wave:
id call them punk-rock (which is a nice way of trying to explain to pop-punk people that what they are listening to is pop-punk.)

hardly anyone seems to grasp the concept of what punk actually is... although saying that they do have their similarities

liberator of squeezy cheese 11-15-2004 01:26 PM

mate i just answered that

dave grohl 11-15-2004 01:27 PM

i like most genres a lil but not rap though.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 11-15-2004 01:27 PM
what do you like then?
punk, ska, pop-punk, hardcore
ok, but what would you categorise tham as then?

just to get evryones opinions...
pop-rock
 how can you hate metal?
just don't like the music or the vocals :p

decent solos though, musically wise
Id say Pop-punk, and i hjonestly think the whole "not punk if signed to major record" is crap, cuase if they want to have there music heard then theyll have to be, you cant get big off a small label. Thats one of the things that pisses me off about the whole punk thing.
Punk can't be popular, it goes against what punk stands for

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 11-15-2004 01:28 PM

Man, that's a long post....................

apacherosepeacock 11-15-2004 01:30 PM
Punk can't be popular, it goes against what punk stands for
which is why pop-punk exists

liberator of squeezy cheese 11-15-2004 01:30 PM

it certianly is.

Untitled 11-15-2004 01:30 PM

Thats what pisses me off about it. And as soon as a band is in the charts they must be "sell outs" etc etc.

duffroxmysox 11-15-2004 01:31 PM

cheers everyone and James, I'm liking the long posts- they take ages to do but you feel a sense of achievement after......

dave grohl 11-15-2004 01:32 PM

Hi james (short post).

liberator of squeezy cheese 11-15-2004 01:32 PM

and what makes it even more gay is that all bands end up with a cd in the charts eventually so that band goes down the drain and then the next and if the bands dont get popula some times they dont feel apreciated so its like lose either way pretty laim if you ask me!

duffroxmysox 11-15-2004 01:32 PM
which is why pop-punk exists
thats what I find annoying about the genre title

pop-punk= popular punk, however pop-punk is really a term for poppy punk imo so

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 11-15-2004 01:33 PM
which is why pop-punk exists
Pop-punk is just a melodic version of punk music. The pop doesn't stnad for popular with the meaning of "well known". It means that the music is likely to have features associated with pop music such as melodic vocals. I could name sooooo many of these poppy bands that people will never have heard of.

Calling a popular band like good charlotte "punk" is an oxymoron

Burning inside 11-15-2004 01:33 PM
i was in many bands, narrowed it down to one now

do we all play bass??
I think most of us do

liberator of squeezy cheese 11-15-2004 01:34 PM

good charlotte should not be spoken it makes me cringe!
Thats what pisses me off about it. And as soon as a band is in the charts they must be "sell outs" etc etc.
Not at all. Selling out is changing your music in order to make more money. For example Blink didn't sell out as they were already popular
cheers everyone and James, I'm liking the long posts- they take ages to do but you feel a sense of achievement after......
yeah..... the reason for that i think:

-everyone wants to not follow the crowd, so as soon as a band becomes really famous, they decide they dont like them anymore.

but now pop-punk is a style more than a watered down version of punk

dave grohl 11-15-2004 01:36 PM

good charlotte good charlotte good charlotte hahaha sorry!

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 11-15-2004 01:36 PM
good charlotte should not be spoken it makes me cringe!
good charlotte is a really really bad swear word so i emplore everyone not to say it.

I think that there is only a very few pop-punk bands. **** *********, Blink 182 and Green Day.

I know what selling out is, its just thats what people are like.

Thats exactly what im on about, its almost like some punks are scared to like a band if they go mainstream.

dave grohl 11-15-2004 01:39 PM

dont forget HIm.

apacherosepeacock 11-15-2004 01:40 PM
to be fair..... punk isn't just about the music... however, "real" punk barely exists, and so all those people are just posing.

Untitled 11-15-2004 01:40 PM

HIM are plain crap, some guy i know weres a HIM shirt everyday, i think the reason he likes them though is cause we all hate them, he trys to hard to be different.

duffroxmysox 11-15-2004 01:41 PM

GC- I dislike 'em but still, they are better than westlife, in a way, so you have to at least thank them for playing some kind of instrument and not sitting on a stool every friday night on totp and clogging the number one spot for weeks on end with every song

hmmm.....I also hate the fact that I liked Joel and Benji's made hoodie so I got one but I cant stand the band :upset:

Brew 11-15-2004 01:41 PM

I'm a power metal nerd these days

But I'll listen to anything, the latest compilation cd I did featured Fatboy Slim, Black Sabbath, Goldie Lookin' Chain, The Streets, Ensiferum, Bob Marley and The Deftones.

So I'm an all rounder for music.

/late

Burning inside 11-15-2004 01:41 PM

I dont really like Him. I just dont like the way he sings IMO. Just not my sort of thing.
