Opeth's Gigantour setlist, as confirmed by Dave Mustaine:

Ghost of Perdition
Godhead's Lament
Windowpane
Deliverance
Leper Affinity

Oh hell yes :) :)
No real suprises there. Cept maybe Godhead's Lament.

Jude 09-08-2006 10:37 AM

Godhead's Lament is a pretty sweet surprise. I'd love to see that live.

JamJar 09-08-2006 11:03 AM

That is a pretty godly setlist as far as I'm concerned. I'd kill to see Opeth live, but I can't afford to see them in November.

Kage 09-08-2006 11:06 AM

I'd really like to see Ghost of Perdition.

TojesDolan 09-08-2006 11:12 AM

Considering it's a festival, it's an awesome setlist.

Pinhead13 09-08-2006 12:27 PM

I got my tickets an hour ago. Floor tickets!!! $60.00 is kinda expensive.

VomitStainedCretin 09-08-2006 01:10 PM
Paradise Lost own.

They've been around since 1988 and basically invented doom/goth metal.

I love them. Saw them last year support Nightwish at The Apollo and I'm really glad they'll be supporting Opeth at The Roundhouse (I'm going too)

Nick Holmes and Mikael get on like a house on fire - Mike thinks Nick's the funniest man alive and they've supported Opeth before.
If you post your email I'll send you a couple of their tracks as a sampler if you want.
I = huge PL fanboy. :)
Thanx for offering, but Ill just DL the tracks. Could you give me song recommendations? Are PL more My Dying Bride or Candlemass style Doom?

VomitStainedCretin 09-08-2006 02:09 PM

OK, Ive just beeen on PL's Myspace and had a listen. I wasnt too keen on what I heard, but from what I read on the site Im assuming these were songs from their recent albums and not their older stuff, which it says was more metal than their new material.

Kronos 09-08-2006 02:25 PM

Yeah the early stuff is vastly superior - they went a bit soft from 97-02 and the last album was ok, but still watered down a bit.

My fave tracks (in no particular order)
Pity The Sadness
Remembrance
Hallowed Land
As I Die
Widow
Shadowkings
Once Solemn
Embers Fire
Seriously, if you'd like a couple of them I'll send them to you - it'll only take a few mins.
Alright then...

wtf?
That's exactly the reaction I have to alot of Opeth's lyrics. Don't get me wrong, alot are also great, but at times there's definitely a "wtf" value.

Shattered_Future 09-08-2006 03:10 PM

Man, favorite songs from Damnation and Still Life, and the other 3 rank in my top Opeth songs as well.

3FingeredHoek 09-08-2006 03:45 PM

The setlist owns! Unfortunately, Gigantour is coming nowhere near me this year. :(

Insipid2000 09-08-2006 06:41 PM

Fucking awesome Setlist! Ghost of Pertition is the perfect song.

Insipid2000 09-08-2006 07:38 PM

Man just listened Still Life for the first time in awhile and its one hell of an album damn!

Wtf? I can only hear one bass drum.

Det_Nosnip 09-08-2006 11:29 PM

It sounds like one of Martin's triggers was misfiring.

pate 09-09-2006 01:04 AM

My fantasy for Gigantour was Opeth playing GL, and now it will come true!!

Det_Nosnip 09-09-2006 01:48 AM

I've been itching to hear GOP live, personally.

pate 09-09-2006 01:54 AM

I've seen it once, Baying of the Hounds and TGC twice.

Live, I would rank them like this:
1. TGC
2. BotH
3. GoP

Epicurus 09-09-2006 02:03 AM

Yeah TGC went off when I saw them.

PeEpHoLe_10 09-09-2006 04:33 AM

Man,for a festival,that setlist ****ing owns.

Captain Quentin 09-09-2006 07:54 AM

Gigantour is coming to the land of oz, but instead of opeth we get ****ing soulfly!!!!!  :upset:

Daven 09-09-2006 10:44 AM

At least you're seeing some other good bands.

Shattered_Future 09-09-2006 01:16 PM

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think Soulfly is as bad as people make them out to be, personally, but Opeth > Soulfly by miles.

TGC is unbelievable live. There's something about it that just works in a live atmosphere.

Kronos 09-09-2006 01:33 PM

I'm getting all excited about Nov 9th. Absolutely no Soulfly at all.

Just Opeth, and Paradise Lost.

I have to confess that when I saw them and that song came on, I went crazy in the mosh pit. It really worked for that.

The rest of the set, I watched and listened intently, though.

Thor 09-09-2006 02:21 PM
TGC is unbelievable live. There's something about it that just works in a live atmosphere.
I could imagine it being alot better in concert just because it's so darn heavy. On CD the riffs just don't give off enough power as they would in concert.

Shattered_Future 09-09-2006 02:59 PM
I could imagine it being alot better in concert just because it's so darn heavy. On CD the riffs just don't give off enough power as they would in concert.
It was more the vocals than anything that made it unbelievable.

Normally, you got the chorus riff with "THE EYES! OF THE DEVIL!" where Mike adds the pause in between the lines. Live, he just HELD "eyes" out over the passage up until the next line. It was flat out BR00TAL (for lack of better term).

Statutory Ape 09-09-2006 03:11 PM

The only Opeth album I have is Blackwater Park, and it's quite good, I don't really find myself listening to it often, but every now and again a song pops up on my iTunes and i'll pay attention. I love his clean vocals, but his growl is kind of comical.

Kage 09-09-2006 03:13 PM

I know a lot of people that find the growling comical, and I can definately see it that way.

Stoo 09-09-2006 03:14 PM

comical?

Kage 09-09-2006 03:15 PM

Think about it: Here's this guy just belting out a ridiculously low growl trying to sound sinister or whatever. I don't find it funny, but I can see how people would. It might just be hard to take seriously because it could border on gimmicky.

Stoo 09-09-2006 03:17 PM

Why Opeth though? loads of bands growl buh. I see other bands growling/screaming as comical because they suck hard compared to Mike...
