"Death Rap!!"
Reminds me of the rapping in the middle of Benighted's "Grind Wit".

Made me lol.

Please....please do :p

I didn't notice that, but after hearing you talk about it a few times I have to go listen to it, lol.

Its quite funny....rapping in French in the middle of a death metal song....

LifeInABox 12-31-2007 02:14 PM

Has anyone heard of some band called On Solid Ground?

Same band, I presume?

I like them, but most people on here probably won't. I think Impending Doom and Whitechapel are bit better than them though.

LifeInABox 12-31-2007 03:06 PM

I don't like them. They sound like **** to me. A friend of mine wants one of their albums and I was looking for it for him.

Oh jeez I forgot its french. I'm pumped for this now.

Whitechapel are good but I listened to Impending Doom again lately and its just pig squeels the whole time. I can handle them every once in awhile, but not the whole song.

ID isn't pig squeals all the time, much less an entire song. They're really low growls, and there's a tad of distortion. There's no inhaling on most of the vocals. A pig squeal is like the intro vocal to ASP's "We Hold These Truths".

I'll have to listen again, either way I thought the vocals were kinda annoying and you can't even remotely tell what he is saying, or if he is even saying anything at all.

Haha, I don't think you're supposed to. His vocals are extremely muffled, like he really likes to cup the microphone when he growls. I used to do that, but Mappy taught me better.

I'm not one of those guys who has to understand the lyrics all of the time, in fact I rarely pay attention to them. I just had a hard time with ID from some reason.

Valhall 01-01-2008 12:24 AM

Yea, he's incredibly muffled. Inexperienced singers tend to cup the microphone with thier hands in addition to practically eating it...due to the proximity effect, it brings out more low end in the sound source. Inexperienced singers do that to get that low growly sound when they can't naturally accomplish it yet...and they often do it without really being conscious of it.

Credit to Mappy for getting me to kick that habit, and credit to my school for teaching me why it works lol.

It's kinda retarded that he would do that in the studio though.

TTEOVD 01-01-2008 04:42 PM

It's kinda ironic that I've ended up cupping the mic when I growl, but like, my one friend's really good with recording and just musical equipment in general, and I was quite embarassed when he told me my vocals were fine but that I need to learn some mic technique.

So now I hold the mic a bit away from my mouth for highs and I cup it for lows to equalize volume and ****.

Also, if you cup the mic really tight and do highs into it, it comes out as a weird pseudo-layered sound.

Yeah I had to work on that for awhile, cause people couldn't hear me at shows when I did low stuff but i was very audible with the highs.

Yea, it is. I mean, there's an entire plethora of outboard gear and plugins that can be used to accomplish the same thing without sounding so muffled.

Ruins the song

At least it's only for like 6 seconds, then the song returns to awesomness.

masterchaos 01-02-2008 01:45 PM

Not to go off topic, but anyone else here listen to Legion of the Damned?

The heavyness of The Gathering at the pace of Ravenous

Thats a Testament album and an Arch Enemy song...just to clarify.

Tyler 01-02-2008 01:47 PM

Legion of the Damned are a thrash metal band. Not a death metal band. And they are plain.

Eliminator 01-02-2008 01:48 PM
they are plain.
Thrash is pretty common-place in a lot death metal anyways and as much as Obituary gets brought up in here...c'mon now.

The above quote was all you needed to say.

Tyler 01-02-2008 02:14 PM

but thrash being commonplace in death metal is irrelevant because they're not death metal

Angmar 01-02-2008 02:15 PM

Plus Obituary is death metal...

AA-12 01-02-2008 02:16 PM

He just gets dumber and dumber :\

TTEOVD 01-02-2008 02:18 PM

BRA or masterchaos?

masterchaos 01-02-2008 02:19 PM

So all death metal bands that have a "thrash vibe" to them shouldn't be brought up period? What about a thrash band with a death metal vibe? Do they belong here or the thrash thread?

or

Does there need to be another retarded sub genre called Death Thrash or Thrash Death?

TTEOVD 01-02-2008 02:21 PM

OR

stfu straight up thrash doesn't fit!

thrashy death metal does fit though!

from this masterchaos must now throw a fit!

i like boys because their butts are fit!

masterchaos 01-02-2008 02:24 PM

I guess I just don't like confining everything to a certain genre. Its all just metal to me and I'm sorry most of you feel the opposite.
