Yeah, or whatever the pulse of the tune suggests.
Gets tougher if it's changing bar to bar. And it's ****loads easier on the nerves if you have an infallible backing track to play with rather than freaking out that one or more other people's count has carked it. |
I don't think playing in 11 is that hard. Especially not when that song is slow, and is definitely counted 3332, which is pretty much the easiest way to count 11s.
|
If the pulse is three dotted quarters and a quarter then yeah, count it 3332.
It could be all kinds of things though, and even change from one bar to the next, for that my trick personally is to count from the strong pulses like it might be 3332/344/2432 then start again. |
They also had a ridiculous jam on Eleven. Playing in 11/8 for that long must get mentally exhausting.
Nah. The 3332 pulse feels pretty natural with the way they play it (relatively slow), and after 15 years of jamming it in 11/8, it probably feels second-nature. I constantly find myself jamming in 7/8 or 9/8 because of all the time I've spent writing in it. |
Well, yeah, I have no problem feeling the pulse of that song, but playing in 11 for an extended period of time seems tiring.
And he played Tommy The Cat on his 4, not the 6. |
Everything gets tiring sooner or later.
Just wrote a sweet little idea in 11/8 in GP6 after that whole topic came up so, slightly more productive night than usual :). |
I don't think he's played TTC on a 6 for a long time now? I'm not really much of a Les-head, but I'm sure he doesn't on the live videos I've seen.

I pretty certainly recall him playing it on the 6 when I saw them last time. I guess that was about 7 years ago now, but still. |
Check out Radical Face's album Ghost. A really, really good album. If you like The Mountain Goats, you'll like it--it's got way more elaborate orchestration, but similar in a lot of ways.
The Mountain Goats put on an amazing show for a three piece mostly acoustic/keys band, hell even by any standards. John (lead singer) is such a cool/chilled/nice guy. |
This guy is selling an OLP MM5 for $60 because the tuning peg is broken, there are no strings, and there is no sound (likely just faulty wiring). For $20 in repairs, I bet I can sell it for $150.

Talk him down to $40. Go into a music store and ask to take a tuning peg from the box of parts under the counter. Re-wire yourself. Throw on an old set of strings. Pie. |
Hey EADGCFBb how is Alex?

All of which I planned to do, minus the box-o-parts @ a music store (definitely a route I'll have to check out). I have a 5-string set of strings that I will never use, so I figured I'd put them on and practice my setup techniques and fretwork ability. Additionally, I want to put in a 2-band preamp that I have lying around to 1) increase the selling price and 2) get rid of some parts in my bag. |

Is it a bass or a bari guitar? I kind of want a bari guitar. |
Is it a bass or a bari guitar?
I kind of want a bari guitar.
A 5-string bass. I really like Baritone guitars as well, but I ended up just converting my Les Paul to a C-C tuning using some GHS Baritone strings. Lacks a little bit of the clarity I was hoping for, but still sounds good with those EMG 81/60's. The bass turned out to be in really good condition for $40. There is some chipped paint on the body contours, but I'm not sure if I should try to fix it up or not. I'm putting in my old Spector TonePump Jr, so the layout will be volume, passive tone, bass, treble. There will be a 3-way switch for the 2 coils of the pickup and and active/passive switch. 4 knobs + 1 switch will make it look and act more like an actual MM Stingray. A new tuner + 3-way switch is $15, so I'm still $5 under his original asking price, and I get to get rid of that TonePump preamp that is cluttering up my room. |
Wouldn't bother fixing the chips. That'll need a proper refin, which seems more trouble than it's worth for a cheapo.
I just got some plans for a BFM cab, and it's so complicated, it's gonna take me some time to digest it. |

He basically recommended against it, saying that, if you do the calculations, you end up with some weird impedance values and that they preform better on paper than in real life. He also said that you will almost guaranteed need a 15 or 31-band EQ to make it sound good. |
Please elaborate. We're looking at building a sub and a top ourselves for price reasons as much as anything else.
|
Oh, so it's not for bass cab use?
I'll see if I still have the emails and I can forward them to you. |
Yeah, it's more for a small PA/recorded music use. The weird impedance shouldn't be too bad. I think the sub uses an 8 ohm driver, and the top uses an 8 ohm driver with a tweeter array. Not sure how that changes the impedance exactly, but a good solid state power amp is pretty robust and will just pump out whatever juice you ask of it really. That's what I'm thinking anyways. 500W a side at 8 ohms should be alright I think. Everything I've read about the stuff gives pretty much glowing reviews though.

I think I may have blown a speaker in my Epifani. Sigh!
|
Dude :(.
I think I might have a problem with mine too, what are your symptoms? |
So someone broke into my car last night. Sucks knob. I seem to attract crime.
|
Gay, lose anything?
|
GPS, backpack, sunglasses, like $10 in change and some CD's.
Nothing that can't be replaced i guess. But they left my stereo, screwdriver set, tool kit, the TV and push bike sitting right next to my car in the next space though. Smart. |
That's **** about the GPS, those aren't cheap.
|
Yeah it wasn't a cheap one either. They left the cradle though.
Nothing is ever in sight in my car though and my car was probably the second crappiest there. That's why I like having a bike, there's nothing to steal and unless you're committed the thing ain't going ****ing anywhere. |
ryan did somebody try to steal from you again
im telling you dude kung fu solves all problems |
get a can of mace.
|
Kung fu and mace won't stop people breaking into my car while i'm sleeping.
