I'm not quite expecting it to be life-changing. It could be, but I don't want to set my expectations at any higher than it being a brilliant album, because high hopes only lead to disappointment.

I'm not sure if I've ever really had a "life-changing" album. Maybe albums that change my perspective on music, but not on life. How was it life changing for you, Kage?

Kage 08-22-2006 04:23 PM

Erm, that's hard to say exactly how. It's an intangible thing. It's got to do with abstractions and thought-processes and all that ambiguous stuff that makes an artist an artist and engineers mad.

Jaundice 08-22-2006 04:27 PM

That's understandable. The closest I've gotten to life changing was probably the extreme pre-occupation I've had with some Radiohead and Muse works.

The problem is, if an album grips me from the get-go, I can only hold on to it for so long. If a record is amazing, but not absolutely incredible, then I can listen to it over and over again and not as easily tire of it.

repcak 08-22-2006 05:50 PM

i could never love TDS. i don't know why - the beginning is 10 out of 10; all great songs, but after 'Closer' it has a hangover till the end (-> the last two songs are great again).

The Fragile is 10 out of 10 for whole two discs...

Kage 08-22-2006 07:12 PM

It's the opposite for me. Closer begins the best part of the disc and it's classic all the way through the end.

hollowpainting 08-22-2006 07:35 PM

Closer is such a deep track. It really makes me feel great listening to it. It's their song, in my opinion.

misunderstood 08-22-2006 07:40 PM
It's the opposite for me. Closer begins the best part of the disc and it's classic all the way through the end.
Same here. I love TDS and I've always personally thought that that was the album to top. I think TF is a beautiful/fantastic album but (especially the left side) but there's just always been something about TDS that I can't get over. Most of my favorite NIN tracks probably come off that album including 'The Becoming', 'Heresy', and 'Eraser'.

Jaundice 08-23-2006 03:57 PM

Yeah, The Downward Spiral obviously has some of NIN's better tunes on it. I think it probably gets better after Closer, but some of the songs before are also great. "March of the Pigs" is solid, "Heresy" is one of my favorite songs on the album. But "Ruiner" and "Reptile" are some of my favorites by NIN.

repcak 08-23-2006 04:56 PM

i love the musicvideo of March of the Pigs - Trent Reznor at his best :thumb:

Jaundice 08-23-2006 04:58 PM
i love the musicvideo of March of the Pigs - Trent Reznor at his best :thumb:
Yeah, the video is great. I like the agression.

repcak 08-23-2006 05:01 PM

hist clothing, stlye, hairs - that is the trent reznor i have in mind everytime i think about NIN.
those were the best NIN days. wonderful

Jaundice 08-23-2006 05:09 PM

Yeah, that's basically the classic Trent Reznor image.

I think he looked better around the With Teeth recording, before he shaved his head.

repcak 08-23-2006 05:21 PM

i didn't like the Trent "Hulk" Reznor. i was in the second row at the concert and he was standing 5metres in front of me... it wasn't the trent i imagined always :(

Jaundice 08-23-2006 05:23 PM

Yeah, the muscular guy with a shaved head really doesn't coincide with the typical Trent image. But if that's what he wanted to do with himself, he shouldn't have to worry about maintaining the "image" people expect from him.

repcak 08-23-2006 05:27 PM

yes thats true. its his life and if it easier for him with coping depressions by body-building, its ok.

i only talked about my own subjective imagination of Trent.

Kage 08-23-2006 05:31 PM

Trent looks like a fucking queer nowadays.

Bartender 08-25-2006 10:01 AM

I searched the thread and found nothing, but given how reliable the search can be that doesn't mean much.

Anyway, does anyone here know/like Sunna? I remember hearing them (saw them live on some magazine's compilation tape) and not liking them much around the time they released One Minute Science, but I picked up the album a couple of weeks ago for cheap, for one song. Not listened to it all the way through yet (mostly just the one song I remember liking, actually), but it seems okay, and very NIN-like. Worth checking out "Power Struggle", if nothing else, if you're a NIN fan, I think.

Moses 08-25-2006 10:02 AM

omg bartender's posting!!!

Was that you that banned that Fagoster idiot?

Bartender 08-25-2006 10:15 AM

Yep.

Ever since he started lobbing for PETA, he's been acting like one too. >:-[ :p

Kage 08-25-2006 01:54 PM

Are you fucking serious? I hate PETA.

Jaundice 08-25-2006 01:56 PM
Are you fucking serious? I hate PETA.
Yeah. He did public service announcements for them and everything.

Kage 08-25-2006 01:58 PM

This is the same PETA that Penn and Teller did a "Bullshit" documentary on, right?

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-25-2006 01:59 PM

Well actually what he did with/for PETA was somewhat just; the Chinese fur industry is kind of icky and stuff, and he wanted ot show people how icky it was/is, so he made a documentary about it or something.

PETA as a whole is just plain stupid though. Ugh, hippies.

Jaundice 08-25-2006 01:59 PM

If you mean People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, yes.

Kage 08-25-2006 02:00 PM

Fur I can understand. But PETA is just way too far up their own asses in general.

Beavis and Butthead watching that video cracks me up everytime. "Where do these dudes get their shiny pants? I think you just get regular pants and have them like...shined"

misunderstood 09-22-2006 09:53 PM

No 'Closure' yet BUT! we've got a teaser for the live dvd that they filmed during their last tour. It's looks great! Maybe even better than AATCHB. Check it out:

Kage 09-22-2006 10:57 PM

Holy crap, that looks really awesome. That is some high quality. Looks unreally clear and crisp.

misunderstood 09-22-2006 11:15 PM

^Yeah, no kidding. I can't wait for this. Apparently it's gonna be released in three different formats which sucks for those people who absolutely need to have them all. They'll have three identical dvds, heh. I'll be fine with just a regular dvd, damn it.

Kage 09-22-2006 11:35 PM

Haha, yeah, definitely.

^Ah, I'll try to get a link up for you a little later.

Ok, well, nevermind. it's up at NIN.com now.

misunderstood 10-27-2006 01:17 AM

Holy sh!t! New NIN European tour dates are up! No U.S. dates as of yet though. This seems so soon..kinda exciting even though I'm no where near any of the stops. I can't believe the album is nearly done. Reznor posted a few days ago on the spiral boards that that album would be mixed in January (apparently expecting April release as of now). And now this tour! All I can say is that it is a damn good thing that they're not touring around here at the same time as Tool is 'cause I can't afford all these concerts..:p *needs to get a job*

does anyone knows what he plans to do? about one/two years ago, after WT, there were rumours Trent want to make a album in the sense of "Still" - is this still true?
